30년을 훌쩍넘은 고딩시절 나는 cd를, 친구놈은 lp를 샀는데 그땐 cd를 샀던 내가 우쭐했지만 지금은 이 lp를 가진 친구놈이 세상부럽다. 친구놈 가게에서 찍어둔 lp. 역시 뽀대난다. 본작은 이상하리만큼 중고lp를 구하기도 어려웠고 재발매도 잘 없는거 같다. 계속 그렇게 구하기 어려웠으면 좋겠다.

이들을 표현한 "Rush meets Metallica"가 고정관념처럼 박혔지만 이 만큼 한줄요약이 잘 된 표현도 없는것 같다. 고딩때부터 인생통틀어 압도적인 청취빈도를 보이는 작품이며 프록메틀을 모르는 친구에게 이게 프록메틀이다라고 소개해 줄만한 작품인듯. 처음부터 끝까지 완벽했다.

고2때 처음 들었던 드림씨어터 2집은 개인적으로 숔였다. 뭔가 난해한듯 했지만 미려한 멜로디와 박자하나하나가 심장에 꽂히는 듯 알수 없는 희열에 도취되었는데 뒤늦게 듣게된 이들의 데뷔작에서도 싫을듯 끌리는 묘한 맛을 느낄수 있었다. 그건 아마도 라브리에 드림씨어터에 지친 내귀가 다른 프록을 찾기보단 오히려 1집에서 훨씬더 안정적인 즐거움을 찾았던게 아닌가 싶다.
