프레디 머큐리가 에이즈 진단을 받기전 해의 발매된 작품으로 5번 트랙 Who Wants To Live Forever은 우연의 일치였겠지만 프레디가 생각나서 들을때마다 슬퍼지고, 영화 보헤미안 랩소디에서는 또한 그의 인생을 암시하는 듯한 느낌으로 눈물샘을 자극할수밖에 없었다.
역시 퀸의 음악이구나!! 싶긴하지만 전체적으로 많이 대중적인 사운드는 단점이 아니지만 왠지 모르게 아쉽다. ^^;

On the whole, A Kind Of Magic is far from Queen’s worst albums, and certainly recommendable. Sure, it’s disjointed and a bit soft/synth-heavy, but the songwriting is fairly consistent and at its peak provides some real gems.

Probably most commercial Queen album with Hot Space and Works. Some fine moments (Who Wants To Live Forever is brilliant ballad!), and some weaker tracks. Still pretty good, and Freddie's vocals give's me chills everytime, no matter what track.

영화의 OST이니 뭐니를 떠나 그냥 보통의 음반으로 봐도 그리 나쁘지않은 퀄리티이기는한데, 곡간의 편차가 다소 있고 통일감이 떨어지는 면이 있어 매력적이게 느껴지지않습니다. 그래도 프레디 머큐리의 대체불가 보이스만은 본작에 담긴 그 무엇보다 멋지고 아름답습니다. 10대초반에 처음 음악을 접하고 소중히 듣던 그 설레던 순간들이 미세하게 느껴져서요.

퀸은 어느 한 스타일에 정체되지 않고, 끊임없이 실험을 하는 밴드다. 이로 인해 다양한 모습을 보여준 장점이 있지만, 아이러니하게도 초기 퀸의 서사적인 스타일을 완전히 잃어버린 듯 하다. 메탈에서 탈피한지는 꽤 오래되었기 때문에 이들의 변화는 나에게 피곤함을 느끼게 해줄 뿐이다.
