1994년 셀프타이틀 데모 제작후에 내놓은 노르웨이 출신 Gothic Metal 밴드 Theatre Of Tragedy의 정규데뷔작이다. 기존의 Gothic Metal 계열 밴드들에 비해 보다 클래시컬하고 드라마틱한 사운드의 진행과 극단적인 대비를 이루어 내고 있으며, 이는 Velvet Darkness They Fear 앨범에서 처절한 아름다움으로 승화된다. Liv Kristine의 읊조리는 듯한 보컬 멜로디가 듣기 좋은 Cheerful Dirge등이 담겨져 있다. Theatre Of Tragedy는 이후 가장 영향력있는 밴드중 하나로 올라서게 된다.
