It's kind of a continuation of Nightfall, what's a really hard thing to do, but this work doesn't lost much compare to the previous album. A 90/100 easily. "Mirror Mirror" is probably the hit of this album for me. The melody sung by Marcolin is sensational. Beautiful song.
"A Cry From the Crypt" features a riff that seems to have no conclusion in the first few seconds, which makes you more interested in the song. Marcolin's vocals holding this note in the first part are excellent. The riff that follows the chorus is simple but still catchy, although it is not the best on this album. The Candlemass vibe of "Let's make a thousand songs in one with different leads and riffs" appears here as well.
"Darkness in Paradise" is anotther hit here. One of the best with "Mirror Mirror".
Their signature riff in "Incarnation of Evil" is worth the experience.
After all, an almost perfect album.

Candlemass deliver the same kind of quality, riff-driven epic Trad Doom as always. Again with Messiah’s intense vocal prowess, the album retains the sound from Nightfall. Ancient Dreams tends to be seen as a drop in quality, but I instead see it as a trade off of sorts. There is no doubt that Ancient Dreams fails to deliver the same highs as Nightfall; however, it also does away with any sort of filler material, which dragged Nightfall down a bit. What remains is an extremely consistent album where every song is of equal quality – an odd exception being the title track, who’s riffs are just odd, and Messiah’s vocals don’t really play off them well.
All in all, another high quality Trad Doom album that should be given the same respect as the rest of Candlemass’ first four albums.

Three really amazing records in a row. It's really an extension of what they had done previously; great songs and awesome riffs.
