I heard a lot about this album before finally listening. I expected something better than this, but still it's very good. It has a lot of passion and energy, for real / no pretending. It also builds up the tension in some places and then comes through with huge climaxes. I also like the spooky renaissance instrumentation here and there. May 3, 2022

I really enjoy this one and I can really feel the quality in the songwriting and performance. I was hoping Ad Infinitum's 2021 album was going to be this good, but Seven Spires came through for me. They have a lot of edginess and are extreme metal for a lot of the songs, but there's also a lot of straight up power metal on this album. The title track is gorgeous and the rest of the album is good. May 2, 2022

A nice piano intro and a dungeon synth outro. I found myself liking it but not loving it for about the first half, but the songs seemed to get better later in the album. Nice atmospheric synths and it has that cool far-away sound for the vocals. A nice and cathartic album. Apr 30, 2022

Amazing album by the Ukrainian one-woman band. It's like Draconian with black metal, but I like Sidus Atrum more than them. Her vocals on this are totally as good or better than the best death metal, black metal, and doom singers out there. There're some whispery parts that bring me to ecstasy, and guitar-wise it's colossal. One of the albums that need to be mentioned for 2022. Apr 30, 2022

These guys pulled this one out of the closet after a couple of years and it's a total gem. I get into the groove and stay there for 20 minutes. The blackened vocals are gratifying, and the instrumentation is a psychedelic trance. The only drawback is that the lone track is by itself, so plan to listen to this and follow with a couple of other EPs that accompany it well in your tastes. Thank the universe for Njiqahdda. A great black metal album that shifts into a bunch of different moods and atmospheres. Sometimes spooky, sometimes brave, sometimes melancholic. It's very polished recording-wise, and the field recordings add so much. Coughing by a crackling campfire etc. Apr 29, 2022

I appreciate the passion and energy. I find this album a bit overbearing. I'd say if you're truly into metal for the heaviness and harshness and that's really your focus, you'll probably enjoy this one a little more than me. I hear some nice nimble and totally controlled guitar work, so these guys have my respect. Apr 29, 2022

This is a big 2 hours. Many songs are just nice, not great, but a few great ones like Sulfur. These songs are from throughout their whole career, so there's some good variety. I think this compilation is best for those who really love Katatonia and have already listened to all or most of their albums, Apr 29, 2022

Fantastic atmosphere, and they have a nice combination of early Mayhem feels and epic feels. Vanum is really dependable with the quality. Apr 29, 2022

Wow, another great band to discover. Yes this is black metal, definitely atmospheric, maybe melodic too. However, the guitar work gets into classical guitar territory, sometimes sounding like Spanish guitar to my ear. These guys control the mood so precisely that you feel like you're living through a very specific drama while this is playing. Absolutely a highlight of 2022. Apr 29, 2022

Pure bliss! It's astounding to me that this has tracks recorded in 2013, and some others as much as 6 years earlier. For me, this is Njiqahdda at their best - so dank, so atmospheric, so rockin', so cryptic. Totally in the zone. I can't say enough about this EP. Apr 27, 2022

I like what I hear on this one except for the vocals; I find them kind of irritating, but instrumentally Njiqahdda is great like always. Strangely, the final track of chanting is the highlight for me, and I was in it for the metal. Apr 27, 2022

Monstrous and beautiful. This western-themed band have a perfect atmospheric black metal album here. Like with their other work, I feel like it has something in common with sludge. Like when it gets very heavy it sounds a lot like Cult of Luna, which is a positive thing in my book. Anyway, this album is very heavy and very dramatic. Absolutely must listen. Apr 27, 2022

Nice album. I appreciate the western feel, and this album really put Wayfarer on my radar, but this is not their best album. It's still good though, and it shows how many different soundscapes and cultures atmospheric black metal has a special way of incorporating. Apr 27, 2022

Wow, very progressive album with this special energy. Listen and you can tell that when they recorded this one, they were 100% ready to play the material. The album shares a name with another major American artist, and the band shares a name with one of the coolest mythological characters. It's cool how it all comes together on such a good album. Well, let's start by saying track 1 is the best one. :) Also, this is essentially a doom album that gets blackened here and there, weaving the two sub-genres together seamlessly and beautifully. At times it gets pretty atmospheric too. Again, Déhà just crushes it, whatever genre he decides to play. Apr 27, 2022

This one mixes catharsis and anger with breaks of clean guitar work. Everything feels very natural i.e. nothing's forced. Though it's a good representation of what we expect from atmospheric black metal, it has moments of really classic early 90s sound.Tight compositions. Very good album. Apr 24, 2022

Most of this album is very metal. This is notable because Sadness experiments with a broad range sounds and styles and often dreamy and not so rocky. Regardless, he usually sounds so original, and definitely so here. The harsh vocals by the guest singer really make it great. I wish this one was longer. Apr 24, 2022

While I love Kirk Hammett to death, I can't say I love this album; I just like it. I'll say that this is good news. Meaning his first album is good, and he should just produce more and work his way up to a great solo album. Also, this album gets kinda film scorish. Apr 24, 2022

This album is impressive. If you're looking for the power of metal to break through the clouds and rock you, this is not the album to come to. This album is for swimming through currents of dense textures for 42 minutes. The approach is similar to Lustre. It's also kind of similar to Deafheaven, but you might not feel like as much of a hipster while listening to Aureole. I really enjoyed this. Apr 21, 2022

Very good album with a rich atmosphere. This is ABM in the very classic approach to the genre, but that doesn't detract from the beauty. I get the same vibes as Vallendusk. Though it's all the same genre, there is a lot of variety composition-wise. Approved & recommended. Apr 21, 2022

This album is packed with good songs. There's a lot of melancholy and a little depressive black metal in this. A lot of mid-paced and slow-paced rhythms here. The singer puts in tons of feeling and the vocals are recorded in a particularly awesome way - just lo-fi enough. Great album. Apr 21, 2022

A rerecording of their 1996 album. If you like anything from Nokturnal Mortum you have to give this a listen. There's no guarantee you'll like this more professional recording over the good old low budget one. Anyway, it's good music, but not in the league of The Voice of Steel. Apr 21, 2022

Passionate and inspired. The last track is kind of similar to something he would do for his Severoth project. Great work by one of my favorite artists. Apr 20, 2022

It gets kind of post here and there without dipping into atmospheric. It's kind of old school and punky with a good energy. Their Japanese theme shows up in the lyrics. Don't expect traditional Japanese instruments. No bad parts. Rather good. Apr 19, 2022

Nov 4, 2024

Their most representative album of the eighties, full of innovation and class, with forceful themes and a benchmark in style for the hard rock genre, in fact it is their best-selling work to date! My personal precise rating is (94/100) Faves: Criyng In The Rain and Don´t Turn Away! Oct 30, 2024

완벽하다. 지금와서 painkiller 정도의 힘을 기대하는 것은 무리지만 관록과 경험으로 영그러진 놀라운 앨범을 냈다. 엔지니어링도 크게 한몫했다. Oct 31, 2024
