Really love this. The tolling of the church bells brings so much cultural baggage and conflict that it makes the gorgeous arrangements even more powerful. The evil sound is strong with this one, in a pretty raw kind of way. Jul 12, 2022

Super atmospheric album that is really solid with the kind of songwriting that tactically induces emotional responses. Some spoken word toward the end felt so fitting. Jul 12, 2022

The songs toward the beginning felt so-so for me, but I started finding a lot more to enjoy really quickly with the rest of the album. I heard Spanish guitar, Latino music, progressive metal, and influences from BtBaM and Primus. The classic heavy metal solos were a real highpoint. Jul 12, 2022

I tried to like this, but I just couldn't. I started to feel like my stereo was insulting death metal by playing this stuff. One kinda midtempo riff in the middle was all right I think. The rest was bad. Jul 12, 2022

Good metal songs with tight playing, and I really feel the ethnic flavor. Jul 11, 2022

The album cover and title got my hopes up for something really awesome. For a bunch of minutes I wasn't getting what I hoped for, but before the middle of the album I had a huge smile on my face. Also, that's one fantastic guest appearance. Jul 11, 2022

Solid album. I loved the atmospheric black metal as I expected too. I also loved all the soft and acoustic parts, which is where black metal albums usually weaken because they're out of their area of expertise. Respect to Grîmmöld for doing both well. Jul 11, 2022

Right from the first seconds they throw in your face more grandness and tragic drama than most albums do in an hour. This is heavy and full of pain, but it's also that evil spooky black metal. So it's many things at once, and it's from a rather new band that was totally in the zone while recording this (you can tell). Don't pass this one up. Jul 10, 2022

The singles, Over the Falls and Shake Hands with Beef, are pure genius. I think the guys knew what their best songs on this one were. Except that I like Camelback Cinema the best. The Chastising of Renegade has some great moments too. No tracks that I skip, but only 4 or so are truly great. Jul 10, 2022

You won't be surprised at how dark this album feels after seeing the cover art. Get totally lost in the fog and feel the unknown dramas that play out, hidden from the world. Now I'm not surprised if anyone who collaborates with Déhà turns out to be a one-woman band of this awesomeness. Jul 10, 2022

You might be breathing heavily after this album ends. It's busy, fast, and totally weird, and the 26-minute running time suits this kind of music very well. Thanks to Questy for recommending this one. We were all in danger of letting it slip by unnoticed. Jul 10, 2022

Dueling unclean vocals are great. Suddenly it gets baroque classical. Normally I wouldn't listen to this kind of death metal or anything so cookie monster, but this album is special. Enjoyed from the first second to the last. Jul 10, 2022

Fantastic debut. Though it has some acoustic and clean moments, it doesn't depend on them for it's folkiness. Even when it's full metal with distortion and shrieking it still has that folk element in the composition. Well composed throughout and it ends in a way that helps me appreciate the whole album. What this album does with grindcore transforms it into a listenable genre. My brain did feel scrambled by the end, but that comes with the territory, right? Anyway, I appreciated them breaking into other genres by surprise here and there. Also, top-tier album cover. Jul 10, 2022

Wow! This is why the power metal exists. The soaring beauty proves these guys were really writing the kind of music they truly love. I think the first few songs and the last few are the most powerful. Recommended for everyone. Jul 8, 2022

Overall great album with some top-tier gratifying riffs. A little corny here and there. Also, with this genre, I think the recording should've brought to the foreground more the details in the guitar textures. Just my opinion. Jul 8, 2022

Very high production values with some good guitar parts. It really has a ton of singing. It's not so different than all the super commercial J-pop for TV shows etc, and they made it a little metal. A good point is it goes through many genres. Not my thing, but pretty cool. Jul 8, 2022

Stylistically there's still some influence here from depressive black metal in song structure, but it's mostly post with a little death metal here and there. They have better albums, but this one is good too. It's also cool they wrote it in Mayan. Jul 7, 2022

A blend of maybe most sub-genres of metal, but Kardashev still has a very unique sound & spirit. The spoken word sections are powerful, and they make a narrative out of the album. World class and unforgettable. Jul 7, 2022

Such a thick atmosphere. I get the most industrial feel from this one out of the trilogy. Also, it's wonderful to listen to Blut Aus Nord and then listen to Borgne and hear how they both add in industrial to their black metal, but the end products are 2 totally distinct beasts. Jul 7, 2022

I love how this album goes everywhere. At one point I think it's even hip hop, but we metalheads need to admit we're not the best judges of what's hip hop and what's not. Anyway, it's a fantastic album for visions and putting yourself in a trance. Jul 7, 2022

Nov 4, 2024

Their most representative album of the eighties, full of innovation and class, with forceful themes and a benchmark in style for the hard rock genre, in fact it is their best-selling work to date! My personal precise rating is (94/100) Faves: Criyng In The Rain and Don´t Turn Away! Oct 30, 2024

완벽하다. 지금와서 painkiller 정도의 힘을 기대하는 것은 무리지만 관록과 경험으로 영그러진 놀라운 앨범을 냈다. 엔지니어링도 크게 한몫했다. Oct 31, 2024
