I feel like I got ripped off by its cover which looks like a decent psychedelic influence would overflow the entire album. This release kicks off with bluesy doom riffs and some tracks end up with the feelings of mellow psychedelic jamming session. The main problem is that the lethargic and unhypnotic rhythms are constantly repeated till the end of the album, which does not help stimulate your brain to get high. It is a bit enervated and not impressive stoner work to me.   May 5, 2023

This album kicks off in such uncompromisingly thrash fashion, which is a bit different style compared to their previous releases. Then it shifts into the prog thrash style, but it is totally different from the styles that the successful prog thrashers like Mekong Delta, Coroner or Voivod do. Overall, it is not an overly complicated or aggressive release, but it sounds a bit modest and has no distinct characteristic to distinguish itself from other thrash albums.   May 4, 2023

The band’s name and the title of the album say it all... This album sounds like apocalyptic rottenness. You can find a high level of ferocity, brought by energizing riffs with a punkish groove, a varied vox of extreme brutality. It might sound good from the perspective of a typical grindcore lover. But the musical structure of this album is too simple. Hence, too predictable. There's nothing to compliment, but ferocious and insane brutality would be appreciated by many.   May 4, 2023

Despite the long break since Lurk released their third effort, Fringe, back in 2016, their formula to craft music has barely changed. The band's speciality, explaining the feeling of repulsion, took a place in this album again in a monotonous way. If you enjoyed their previous releases, you would love this album. Paenil Era is the third Romanian band I've tried listening to after Negură Bunget and Dordeduh. It is utterly a melodic release, but not blackened enough compared to other black metal releases. The delicate tremolo riffs with post-metal influences vitalise each track, giving uplifting and dark energies to the album at the same time in a contrasting way. This album drew my attention because the two members of Allegaeon participated in this release. Harboured did not replicate technical prog metal elements from Allegaeon, taking a totally new direction to build their musicality. So, you will be disappointed in this release if you expect something similar to Allegaeon. This one would be a good album for those who love the aggressiveness of death metal and the grooviness/speed of thrash metal. An entertaining release combining those aforementioned musical features successfully. But I was also a bit bored of listening to the repetitive musical patterns that prevailed from the beginning to the end. I have mixed feelings over this release. I cannot say that this one is a good release, but it would be an entertaining release to some fans. The reason is that I feel like this release is the downgraded version of Immortal's efforts. I failed to find the distinct musical feature that Lamp of Murmuur did not rip off Immortal's musicality. Other listeners might disagree with my opinion, but most prog fans would agree this album is not an impressive release. This one is a below-than-average album to me. Poor guitar work including sloppy riffs and awful-sounding tones make this album sounds bad as well as the poor job of the keyboardist. The offerings of other band members are not impressive either. In short, this album is miles away from what I expected. But it is a fine release. All tracks are composed based on frenetic, folkish and somewhat symphonic melodicism. Fans who love those features might be mesmerised by death metal enchantment. Also, I greatly appreciate their effort to cover Naglfar's 'I Am Vengeance' as an ending track. It is not easy to find an album categorised in sludge / post-metal with this quality. This album is full of immense power consisting of meaty bass, pummeling drums and head-cracking riffs. Changing the path heading to a different musical direction is a tough job to do for all musicians. It would be much appreciated if the change is successful. On the other hand, it would be contemptible if the change is unsuccessful. Unfortunately, this album is the latter. Attractive-sounding sludge metal album with a progressive metal approach. This album is as beautiful as its album cover. As a debut and the first full-length album of the band, this release sounds a bit roughly composed and somewhat incomplete as a whole, but each track has its moment to shine, which gives a sanguine expectation of musical joy for upcoming tracks to listeners. The reason why I checked on this album was that a reviewer insisted that this release sounds similar to Dragged Into Sunlight's best effort, 'Hatred for Mankind'. Satanic lyrical themes and screaming vocal works may make this release sound similar to that album. But this release does not have the distinct noise and experimental features that 'Hatred for Mankind' offers. It is not the first time that the trash metal legends have come back with dismay. Nevertheless, fans have always had high hopes for them. The reason is that the name, Metallica, means a lot to metal fans and in thrash metal history. Unfortunately, this album is another failure to feed up the fans' ardent wish for thrashing. Akercocke came back with this sleazy concoction after the long hiatus. They've never ceased to amaze me throughout their career. The technical offering of the band members is brilliant as always. The musical feature that hit me the most is the changes and breaks of tempo. Those features help jazzy and avant-garde structures combine with dreamy, and hallucinating melodies in a progressive metal way. The musicianship of this album is utterly amazing and surpasses their fifth effort, A Umbra Omega, which was the new musical benchmark in DHG's career. Lethvm have partially replicated Amenra's musicality in sound and structure throughout their career. The use of clean vocals in some tracks is the only visible difference from Amenra in my opinion. It's a great album that offers most of the features that black metal fans are looking for. It's probably the best album so far in Gaerea's career. The vocal works express emotive brutality with vicious rawness in a brilliant way. All tracks are well-composed by a great musicianship, proving that Gaerea have devoted themselves to delving into the aesthetics of black metal. This album is heavy as hell from the beginning to the end. I respect their desire to make their debut album as brutal and savagery as possible. The heavy doom riffs and dark/eerie tonal dissonances successfully crafted a distorted atmosphere, but the vocal sounds like suffering from dysphonia. I don't think it is a typical psychedelic / stoner metal album. It sounds more like prog to me. I love the heavy and bombastic moments of the track, Merged In Dreams - Ne Plus Ultra which makes this release a good album in my opinion. I do remember the first time I listened to Elder's third effort, Lore, which was really impressive. It's too much.... way too much on symphonic elements. What I like the most about Septicflesh is their musicality based on "metal" with a symphonic approach. Metal is the foundation and the fundamental feature that has made Septicflesh's works sound so good. Symphonic elements are just ornamental backgrounds or supplements to support their musical foundation.
