허무주의 맬랑꼴리 음악의 대표주자인 Katatonia의 네 번째 앨범 Tonight's Decision으로 허무하고 쓸쓸한 모습이 자리잡고 있기는 하나 초창기의 과격한 모습은 많이 사라졌고 클린 보컬과 몽롱한 리드기타 멜로디로 독특한 진화를 보여준다. 블랙과 고딕 양쪽에 음악적 기반을 두고 있으며 풍기는 이미지가 To/Die/For와 닮은 면이 있다. 리더 Anders Nystrom은 Dan Swano와 함께 Black Metal 밴드 Diabolical Masquerade를 이끌고 있기도 하다.
