여전히 지독히도 쓸쓸하고 고독한 Agalloch의 3집 앨범이다. 전작과 비교해 봤을 때 분위기는 비슷하지만 몇가지의 변화가 찾아왔다. 이들의 음악에서 중심축을 이루었던 포크색깔의 기타의 비중이 줄고 일렉기타가 주를 차지한다. 그리고 전작에서 그 분위기를 더욱더 어둡게 하던 콘트라베이스소리는 자취를 감추어버렸다. 이렇게 음악적 장치에 변화를 주면 본래의 색깔을 잃기 쉬울법도 한데 이들은 전혀 페이스를 잃지 않았다. 내게 있어서 이들은 어느 사이에 Opeth만큼이나 믿음을 주는 밴드가 되어 버렸다.

어떤곡들은 곡의 길이가 더 길었으면 좋겠는데 너무 짧아서 아쉬운 경우가 있습니다. 본작은 반대로, 너무 길어서 아쉬운 음악입니다. 표현하고자 하는 세계가 곡이 길지 않으면 안되는 것이었을거라 생각은 하는데, 그게 그다지 와닿지는 않습니다. 곡이 길어도 흡입력이 강하다면 길게 느껴지지도 않지만, 본작은 시간의 흐름이 고스란히 다 느껴질 정도입니다.

메탈초보일 때 해외 유명 메탈커뮤니티에 전체 앨범 순위에서 수많은 전설적 명반들 사이에서 agalloch의 2집, 3집이 11,12위인 것을 보고 매우 의아해했었다.(메킹에서 2006년 12위이다.) 시간이 지나 어느날 눈을 감고 이 앨범을 듣고 정말 굉장한 앨범이란걸 깨달았다. 이 앨범은 고독과 추위 등을 표현한 내가 들어본 모든 앨범들 중 최고이다.

One of the first Atmospheric Black/Folk Metal albums I've listened to. It made a great impression on me, especially after I knew for the first time that Metal can give out such a hopeless feeling.

포크적 색채가 많이 줄어들어 아쉬운 앨범. 그리고 앨범이 한시간짜리라 사놓고도 전부 완주한 적은 처음 살 때 빼고 없던 것 같다. 그래도 잘 만든 앨범.

앳모스피릭 장르 특성은 알겠지만 반복좀 줄여서 곡들의 길이가 좀 짧아졌다면 나에겐 훨씬 듣기 좋았을듯 하다. 그래도 상당히 뛰어난 멜로디들이 많이 배치되어 있어 귀가 즐거운 앨범.
