It sounds very technical and virtuoso to me, and there are tons of highlights throughout. The melodies aren't as captivating as their 2023 album though. Still, I'm thankful there're no vocals. Pro bands like this remind me why I love the whole prog post & djent wheelhouse. Mar 13, 2024

Great release from a great band. No matter how soft or hard the music gets, and no matter what mood I'm in, Alcest's albums such as this one always sound gorgeous to me. Mar 13, 2024

Rate Your Music says this is the best war metal in the past 4 years. I like it, but just not as much as them. Mar 13, 2024

I know: everyone's favorite band name, right? Anyway, you have to be a bit nuts to like this kind of stuff. By the way, I really loved the whole album. I'm not sure if it helps me get a handle on noisecore or noisegrind, but I had to start somewhere. The long track times work well, and the genuine vigor & aggression come through very well. Good music on this epic album. The voice-overs are amateur and corny. Oh well. Still pretty good. Mar 13, 2024

There's lots of great guitar-playing moments and the sound of those guitars is really satisfying. The singing is way too weak, it's just talking in a trendy voice, and the lyrics are too simpleminded, even though the singing melodies are good. All in all, slightly above innocuous. Mar 12, 2024

Of course Amy's singing skill is amazing. Not all the songwriting is good, and sometimes the instrumentation is just too basic. It would be better without the tacked-on string sections. Still pretty good though. Tracks 10 & 11 were a nice surprise; I really enjoyed them. Mar 12, 2024

Oh I just love everything on this album. His guitar solos are getting better. You can feel how he's trying to perfect his craft, and how he's getting closer. Mar 12, 2024

I was hoping it would be even better than Claustrophobic Dysentery, and I was 100% right. This devious work brings us into a completely horrifying nightmare in some moldy room somewhere, but it's also soothing & meditative. I know those don't make sense together, so this is why you need to just hear it. The field recordings used masterfully on this one too. Unforgettable. My pick of the week for certain. Mar 10, 2024

Unbreakable is a very good song, but nothing else on this album comes close to it. It's the first full-length of the band, so this is understandable. Mar 10, 2024

Very good conveying of emotion, and a good use of the atmospheric BM sub-genre. Mar 10, 2024

Did I become stuck in a Murphy's Law rut? I expected this album not to take the metal seriously enough. Good thing I was wrong. That excellent first track is exactly what I want from doomgaze. Now there's some variety on the album, and it's not like each song is on the same level, but it's good music throughout, and the singer has the perfect touch. Mar 10, 2024

Now I'm learning about this veteran band by trying this excellent black metal album. Lost Momentum is especially excellent, and the rest is good too. Mar 10, 2024

Wow, I love this album with a passion. It's very Motörhead, and it sounds exactly like that cover art. Mar 10, 2024

Simple in a way that just makes all the songs work so efficiently, while creating the perfect space for thrash riffing. I prefer this one over Cause for Alarm. Their shows in the late 80s must've been insane. Mar 10, 2024

Fun, and it makes me feel cool. There's a lot of electronica, and the vocals have a robot effect on them. I can enjoy that formula. Now it's time for Vvon Dogma I to write better material because a more powerful album along these lines would be just fantastic. Mar 10, 2024

Piano & trap beats for an intro to a slam album? Now I've heard everything. He does go too far with the zany clips/samples, but I can forgive that when it's done in the name of fun and when the music is this good. Though it's playful & humorous, the slam is brutal & delectable, and that cover art fits perfectly. Good new project to watch in a vibrant sub-genre. Mar 10, 2024

Better than their 2017 album. The doom parts and the death metal parts are both top tier. I really like this one, and I'd bet anything it'll be a new favorite among metalheads. Mar 10, 2024

Mathcore & deathgrind, which is an excellent choice by this band because it's as viscerally engaging as good deathgrind, and as technical & as challenging as mathcore should be. It's also a frantic spewing of endless-feeling aggression. I totally loved it. Mar 10, 2024

Commenced with a scream, and just so captivating. Yet another inspired work by a great artist. Mar 10, 2024

The worst I can describe Hopiumforthemasses is that it's sticking completely to a formula that has worked for Minsitry for decades, and that the songs are essentially good but could've used a little retooling or maybe just a couple more takes with the intent to push it as far as it goes. Anyway, I was into it the whole way through, and the last track is the highlight. Mar 10, 2024

Just beautiful, but I expect that from YOB. There hypnotic moments, and some sludge too. Mar 10, 2024

Matthew Bell's Burzum-worship project. This album in particular dunkelheits from start to finish. The 2023 album, Skogshypnos, is noticeably better to my ear, but Whispers of Ancient Spells is still good. Mar 10, 2024

Nov 4, 2024

Their most representative album of the eighties, full of innovation and class, with forceful themes and a benchmark in style for the hard rock genre, in fact it is their best-selling work to date! My personal precise rating is (94/100) Faves: Criyng In The Rain and Don´t Turn Away! Oct 30, 2024

완벽하다. 지금와서 painkiller 정도의 힘을 기대하는 것은 무리지만 관록과 경험으로 영그러진 놀라운 앨범을 냈다. 엔지니어링도 크게 한몫했다. Oct 31, 2024
