Who could not love that band name? Major early Deep Purple influences show up here in all the best ways. Fun, playful, and it has good vibes. Dec 1, 2023

This is beautiful, but I get the feeling that they could now play these songs even better. Anyway, I can't wait to discover what their other albums sound like. Dec 1, 2023

So full of power, energy, & attitude. With this kind of tech thrash, you can really hear how exact and nuanced their playing is. That last Beatles cover grabbed my attention so well that I couldn't even recall the original's sound until the album ended. Truly excellent music by Coroner. Dec 1, 2023

This is not really the kind of metal I want to listen to, but it's totally apparent that these veterans are still inspired to create new music in their pummeling style. You can hear it on the recording. A very impressive album. Dec 1, 2023

Darker & angrier than you might think by looking at the cover art. It's an interesting & unique mix of styles. Dec 1, 2023

Heavy metal & hard rock on this one. Half of the time I feel little effort with uninspired singing, cliché lyrics, and brainless commercial instrumentation. The ballads feel embarrassing. Other times it's better and I can hear how the members are really quite skilled, but nothing on this is very good. Nov 29, 2023

I always enjoyed Shame (and it's short-film style video). The surprise here is that the album maintains that level of quality for more or less the whole album, with engaging vocal melodies and exciting rocky compositions. The last track repeats the same line way too much. Some middle songs rip off NIИ's Pretty Hate Machine, but not so well. The vast majority was really enjoyable. Nov 29, 2023

There are a couple of good moments, and track 5 is decent, but the rest is weak & aimless. Too crowded with trap beats. A lot of it lacks emotion & tension. They cover Björk's masterpiece Army of Me and, no surprise, can't even come close to the original. Why try the impossible? Overall, slightly negative but not terrible. Nov 29, 2023

I remember hearing Open Your Eyes on 120 Minutes. Interesting how much variety is on this album. I wouldn't have guessed I'd hear funk, soul, rap metal along with grungy nu metal. Also the singer is great, but there are some weak points. The doubled vocals get annoying. One song ends with way too much feedback. Not perfect but still rather fun. Nov 29, 2023

Every week there is so much great black metal. The guitar melodies on these songs really stole my heart. Absolutely my pick of the day. Nov 29, 2023

I was trying to catch up with recent black metal today, a task which is categorically impossible. Well this album's beauty really captivated me. At times it's atmospheric, and at all times it's well done. Recommended. Nov 28, 2023

This album is making everybody's lists and..... it's as good as they say! Deeply melancholic melodic BM that works in all kinds of surprises, but they all fit perfectly. Now I see they have 3 earlier albums and I feel pretty lucky. Throne of the Lunar Soul is highly recommended. Nov 28, 2023

I was actually reeling and saying 'holy %#*@' to myself long after listening to this wonderful album that came as a surprise release for me today. There's doom at some parts and I think I hear Drudkh influence in a couple parts. The vocals are pure vitriol and there is exactly enough of them. The doomy parts are delectable and the blackened guitarwork is bleak and terrifying. My pick of the week, and best straight BM release so far this year. Nov 25, 2023

It's back to atmospheric black metal for part 3. Truly excellent songwriting, and the album stays interesting and tight for 2 hours. Midnight Odyssey's trademark mix of sympathetic & evil melodies. Ambitious and a pleasure to hear. Nov 25, 2023

There are many great moments, but the track that really astounded me was Combustion. Here & there I did find some bad lyrics and when there's an effect on the voice it detracted from my enjoyment. Little problems. Overall very good. Nov 25, 2023

Wow, this album takes time to build to huge climaxes that are fully worth the minutes. This band should definitely be on everyone's radar. Nov 24, 2023

I'd heard some singles form them but I never found them so good. This album was a pleasant surprise because it was better than I expected. There are lots of great moments such as the guitar melodies in track 6. The clean singing is better than the harsh singing on this album. Overall good. Nov 24, 2023

Ooph. I can really get lost in the ultra dense darkness & heaviness, so for some moments the rich melody in these songs soaks into my mind subliminally. This band deserves a lot of respect. They stay 100% true to their style while also achieving real proficiency and nuance to the simple-seeming song structures. Very well done, Archgoat. Nov 24, 2023

Slightly better than Back Home because the compositions are better and the vocals are less forced. Track 5, Angel, is painfully corny though, and the last track is just a bit corny. Next time I'll only skip track 5. All in all, still rather good. Nov 24, 2023

A soulful album. I wanted to find some good blackened doom and I discovered epically emotional blackened doom. The band is on hold, but many of the members are in a new project, so I definitely have a lot to catch up on. Nov 24, 2023

The best part of my industrial Tuesday. The mood and atmosphere just astounded me. This album is bleak, disturbing, & dangerous. I'm really glad I found out about this artist. Nov 22, 2023

Whoever listens to this becomes a powerful warrior, pumped up & ready to fight. The crafting of the riffs and electronic elements is really thoughtful while still being visceral. I loved this and look forward to listening again, hopefully soon. Nov 22, 2023

The album has a very good sound, and I'll guess the band does as well. The songs fell kind of aimless and aren't built around palpable musical ideas, so I don't get into it much. The clear highlights are track 11 Blackout and the last track - a cover of Foster The People's huge hit. Overall, just somewhat good. Nov 22, 2023

Bands that turned nu metal and then turned back - it sounds like some annoying YouTube short. I find this one so-so. Actually, the most nu metal riffing and rhythms are the most enjoyable part. The vocals, however, get weak here & there and sometimes are really embarrassing butt rock style. I think I liked track 7 the most. Nov 21, 2023

Pretty good sludge here. At some points early on the vocals feel kind of awkward, but it doesn't happen much. Actually, the album got slightly nicer for me little by little as it progressed. Nov 21, 2023

This early album from Celeste is much more post-hardcore than their later material. It is nice to discover how they started off with an already captivating sound. Definitely a great band. Nov 21, 2023

Excellent songs on this super short EP that works in a lot of black metal elements. It's so good that I want more, so I highly recommend listening to this EP and then another release by Celeste. Nov 21, 2023

Nov 4, 2024

Their most representative album of the eighties, full of innovation and class, with forceful themes and a benchmark in style for the hard rock genre, in fact it is their best-selling work to date! My personal precise rating is (94/100) Faves: Criyng In The Rain and Don´t Turn Away! Oct 30, 2024

완벽하다. 지금와서 painkiller 정도의 힘을 기대하는 것은 무리지만 관록과 경험으로 영그러진 놀라운 앨범을 냈다. 엔지니어링도 크게 한몫했다. Oct 31, 2024
