It's half covers and half original material, and there's a mix of quality here, but when it comes to the choruses the songs really shine. The Heart cover (track 9) is the high point. They improved Journey's Separate Ways by eliminating the corniness (though the lyrics still don't make sense). Other highlights for me are tracks 6, 8, and 12. Jan 19, 2024

There's a lot of good points about this album. However, its a constant barrage of singing parts hurrying in one after another, sometimes edited to overlap to smash them even closer. It gets incessant and destroys the variety that exists in the instrumental composition. This drags it down from a 75 to a 70 for me. Jan 19, 2024

Another great album by Malist, though As I Become Darkness is better. So his last album was anti-war, this one is about scorched earth, and now he has relocated to the Czech Republic. Let's draw overwhelmingly obvious political conclusions. Jan 19, 2024

Good stuff by Beherit here, and it's just a demo. Jan 19, 2024

Fiery evil abounds. I had an absolute blast. Tracks 8 to 11 (the Dawn of Satan's Millenium EP) is the better material in my opinion. Jan 19, 2024

Great first album! I was surprised to find it's one of the best releases in their formidable discography. Just even more proof that hundreds of millions of metalheads will love Svart Crown to death if they just give them a try. Jan 19, 2024

Wow, I did not expect it to be like this. It's like some of Beck's albums that surprise you by jumping to an unexpected genre of music, and then trick you again by blending 2 other genres together. Deathgrind plus a cornucopia. Contrastic indeed. My pick of the day. Jan 19, 2024

For me the whole album maintains a menacing & foreboding aura that really touches my soul, and that is fitting, considering the topic of and background to the album title. The legendary title track that opens this album is by far the most melodically engaging to my ear. All the other songs are good too, but Transilvanian Hunger is a song in its own elite league. Their 2011 album is in a different league. Insecure feels to me closer to typical early 2000s death metal plus some atmosphere. It still has genuine emotion and is quite catchy. Not as original or impactful as their later work, but still good through & through. Jan 19, 2024

There are lots of great moments on this album. Here & there, I felt like the songs could be better, but lacked that underlying Celtic Frost gusto that their music usually has. Maybe they could've tried another session for some of the songs... Anyway, still good overall. Jan 17, 2024

A truly excellent album by Windir. Their rousing melodies are unique and the spirit of their songs deepened black metal's ethnic element, which artists from all cultures are now exploring. This last album is so close to a perfect score for me. Massive respect to Windir for keeping it this real for their whole career. Jan 17, 2024

Wow, this is massively cathartic. Atmospheric BM, but maybe about 10 to 20% post-black metal. If that's a turn-off for you, you won't enjoy this as much as I do, but this is another new artist to keep on my radar. Jan 17, 2024

The first track was a little weak to me, but this album gets right back into barrage of futuristic fury. There's a lot of kinds of electronic music in these songs. At times it sounds to me like trance metal with, and there is some djent. Anyway, the last track, the one with vocals, is especially nice, and there are many other great highlights. Jan 17, 2024

It's kind of like cheating. Tom forms Hellhammer, hones his musical skills, and then the first Celtic Frost EP is this excellent. Every second of this release is a complete blast. It brings a huge smile to my face and I get right into the groove. The lyrics are like insane mutterings about evil & immorality - what more can you ask for? A satanic-looking cover? Jan 17, 2024

I'm very glad I gave this band a try, because this album has great vocals, atmosphere, guitar tone, melodies, tightness, and even cover art. Lovecraftian themes always help too. These musicians really know how to imbue a song with urgency and emotional weight. Definitely recommended. Jan 17, 2024

The major flaw with this album is that no possible volume will ever be loud enough. I was blasting this into my ears like a maniac. Be forewarned. Jan 15, 2024

I find it a mix of rambling composition and elements that work well. For me, it;s so-so. Jan 15, 2024

The first six songs are all in heavy rotation on classic rock radio to this day, and with good reason. The 2nd half of this album really drags down my rating - talk about filler. Anyway, there is a million good things to say about the first half; lyrics that get playful with puns, dialects, & registers, awesome guitar work, beats and production that draw influence from new wave. Emphasizing the positive here. Jan 15, 2024

I appreciate the integration of ambient music into the doom on this one even more than the other Slow albums I've heard so for. The sense of mourning and catharsis comes through perfectly. Jan 15, 2024

So I thought this was going to be less atmospheric than the 1st album so I was bracing for disappointment. Anyway this astoundingly powerful and just as atmospheric. I'm not sure if I should perceive a shift in style, but Alluvial is shaping up to be a great band. Jan 15, 2024

Cool music, and I can feel the theme of mysterious horror. This might be pretty close to groove metal as well. Jan 15, 2024

Good songwriting. Excellent demonic atmosphere. The vocals get too croaky for me at some points. Their 2nd album was a bit better. Also, this album cover is wonderful and I want to know who created it. It looks like a simple landscape, but the background gets a bit tricky if you just pay attention. Done in extremely good taste. Even the logo's placement is top-tier composition. Jan 12, 2024

Oh the pain. When the first track started, I thought it might turn out better than I was expecting. Unfortunately this is all as bad as that How You Remind Me song that got airplay. The singer is so bad, only staying in this one annoying tone. The lyrics are 100% embarrassing. The melodies and drumming are anemic, not committing to anything interesting. Track 10 is almost okay, but this is Nickelback living up to its reputation. Jan 12, 2024

My pick of the day. Impressive from start to finish as I often expect with progressive metal, but I found the whole album built to a conclusion on its final moment, like I felt all the songwriting had this end in mind. This way of going out gave the whole experience an emotional weight. Definitely memorable and packed with awesome moments. Jan 12, 2024

I enjoyed the whole thing. I hear influence from Koяn, Soulfly, Sepultura, & maybe early Deftones. These guys take their musicianship seriously. I love the funkiness. The rapping is good, the harsh vocals are good, but the clean vocals are weak in comparison. I can only wonder what to think about the French lyrical content. It does get a bit samey a couple times, but I'm super glad I gave this band a chance. Jan 12, 2024

Nov 4, 2024

Their most representative album of the eighties, full of innovation and class, with forceful themes and a benchmark in style for the hard rock genre, in fact it is their best-selling work to date! My personal precise rating is (94/100) Faves: Criyng In The Rain and Don´t Turn Away! Oct 30, 2024
