Overall very good, but there's absolutely a lot of total expert-level djenting on this album. Unfortunately some of the clean vocals drag down my score a little. For example, I'll be skipping Red Fur from now on. In the past week, the 'core' sub-genres have been releasing a lot, and I think this might be the best recent one. The songs are fun, playful, super passionate, and intricate. Thank you Veil of Maya. May 14, 2023

Wow. Even better than the previous release. Then again, this is the same guy from Leiþa & Kanonenfieber so I shouldn't be surprised. Anyway, to me it sounds like there's some influence from Mgła and Drudkh, and it's all played so perfectly with a definite sense of urgency coming from every movement. The sound is also top tier. Massive respect to Non Est Deus. May 14, 2023

Very good album. The last song is so melancholic that I find it inspiring. Also, another visual feast from Mr. Lewandowski. May 14, 2023

This is a very solid album, but it's funny how I expect even more from such a masterful band. I feel like the songwriting is too focused on the vocals, like the songs leave it all to Roy to just turn the music to gold. Metal can depend more on the riffing and surprising song structures too. Maybe this album was their chance to go in that direction, but in the end it's still rather beautiful. May 14, 2023

It's all energetic and all pleasing in its anthemic way, but I don't find it extremely energetic or extremely pleasing. Still positive though. Also, it sounds so close to melodic death metal, but I guess this just shows us how melodic metalcore came into existence thanks to melodeath influences. May 14, 2023

Almost as powerful as the 2022 album and I feel some influence from depressive BM. I don't know anything about Cioran's philosophy, but I know it inspires Etat Limite to put high levels of emotion into these songs. May 14, 2023

It's a good album all around, but I don't understand why this cover art was matched with submarine sounds on a later track. May 11, 2023

Totally loved this one. The riffing alone makes it pure gold, but everything else is just gorgeous & full of attitude as well. May 11, 2023

I'm so close to moving this up to 90. Everything is great - from cover art to songwriting, but the perfect vocals and the truly vast variety of singing styles are the most impressive aspects for me. Very very good album with tons of passion. May 11, 2023

I loved hearing this one. I had no idea it I'd be treated to so much atmosphere and such an unnerving sensation. Definitely an album I'll start listening to often. May 11, 2023

This kind of bluesy and a bit proggy stoner metal works very well without vocals. Very enjoyable. May 11, 2023

A few songs were pretty good, but a lot of them are all sappy. There's a lot of trite cliché lyrics too. The djent that's on this album isn't busy enough or isn't given the chance to stand out. All in all I'll score it average, but there's so much good music released every week, I definitely recommend skipping this one. May 11, 2023

I like this a lot more than I thought I would. Also, their sound is somewhat unique. I guess it fits into groove metal but not melodeath, and it is kinda almost djent here & there. Anyway, I'm very glad I gave this one a try. May 9, 2023

I enjoyed this, but not as much as the cover art. I think if you found Lorna Shore to be too extravagant and want something less extreme but in the same style, then this might be what you're looking for. To my ear, there's nothing unpleasant and it's all pretty good. May 9, 2023

There's a lot of variety of feelings, all rendered from atmospheric black metal. Well done, Hinsidig, and I'll have to check out the members' later bands. May 9, 2023

Avienne's harsh vocals are pure fire; she's been improving over the years though her early work is already great. The drumming has plenty of high-stamina segments as well as proggy mind-breaking segments. Some solo's melted my face off, like at the end of track 1. The songwriting is the best facet of this wonderful album though, and track 2 is a black metal perfection. I will be listening to this album a lot. May 9, 2023

I'm not usually in the mood for something this pummeling, clobbering, and full of swears, but Machine Head made that kind of music so well with inspiration in every single movement of each song. It's really impressive. May 6, 2023

I especially like tracks 5 & 7. It's too bad for most of the album the singing is not passionate or dynamic enough, especially on the first few songs. The better songs later on pull up my final score to 80. May 6, 2023

The fury of classic black metal. This is exactly what I want to hear in execution, composition, and production. The only complaints are about the cover; the logo feels too clean and the photo might make you expect an agonizing, slow, & freezing BM, but this one is all about enjoying the frantic suffering. I guess I'm biased; the first thing I think is that it would be better with blackened vocals instead of death growls. The gothic melodies and driving beats incorporate very well. I also have to say that despite the high production value, nothing feels phony or corny to me. Nothing stands out as excellent, and nothing I disliked. May 6, 2023

Music cannot be this good; it's all a conspiracy. Rivers of Nihil actually pays tiny invisible aliens to fly down and jump onto your ears and transmit radio waves into your head, making you think you're hearing this astounding drumming, exquisite moods, and deep messages. No one will ever actually play something this good, but I still loved it when I heard it years ago and I love it more now. I don't care that I'm tricked by those aliens. May 6, 2023

Awesome swaggering doom. Rather traditional doom, but at times there's Kyuss influence, and sometimes Sleep. When I needed to get through a tough day this whole album totally filled me with the exact attitude I needed. Hail King Potenaz. May 6, 2023

This album took me by surprise. There have already been a bunch of big names releasing symphonic metal this year, but most not this great. Maybe this album equals Kamelot's release. The Middle Eastern & East Asian elements are used to great effect. I really liked every song. May 6, 2023

More good work from one of Victoria's many projects. I love the screams. The album gets off to a slow start; I find the first track not as inspiring as the rest of the songs. The drums don't have a good sound in the recording, but I like it a lot anyway. May 6, 2023

Nov 4, 2024

Their most representative album of the eighties, full of innovation and class, with forceful themes and a benchmark in style for the hard rock genre, in fact it is their best-selling work to date! My personal precise rating is (94/100) Faves: Criyng In The Rain and Don´t Turn Away! Oct 30, 2024

완벽하다. 지금와서 painkiller 정도의 힘을 기대하는 것은 무리지만 관록과 경험으로 영그러진 놀라운 앨범을 냈다. 엔지니어링도 크게 한몫했다. Oct 31, 2024
