Good composition except for the vocals, which really drag the score down for me. Also, Michael Whalen's style of painting always seems to be all execution and no flare - better than MidJourney I guess. Apr 26, 2023

Dark Tranquility has a huge reputation, so I'm not surprised this is a good album, actually I find it more emotional than most melodic death metal. Also, I already knew the The Wonders At Your Feet, and the vocals on this album are better than that song, so it's a pleasant surprise for me. I especially liked Ex Nihilo / track 11. Apr 26, 2023

Nice first full-length by a rather new band. It goes to some interesting places, such as synthwave for a brief moment, but mostly a Drudkh-style album. Pretty good. Apr 24, 2023

This album is remixes by a band member. Nothing awkward or weak as is usual for remixes. I'll try more from this band. The electronic element is pretty fantastic. Surprise - the clean vocals are on point; they're sentimental but not in a cringey way. The harsh vocals are a mix of decent and so-so. The guitar work was a real pleasure. Overall good stuff. Most of this album should score 90 or 95. I'm taking off some points for an unnecessary outro and a couple of songs in the first half being less powerful. The orchestrations and composition are really beautiful for most of the album. Good work by Keep of Kalessin. Apr 22, 2023

Today I was attacked by putrid golden sunlight and fresh springtime air that corrodes the lungs. Playing this master-tier album solved all those problems. It's wonderful in so many aspects, but some very articulate guitar passages stood out as did very climactic melodies. The album cover is the perfect homage to Bosch, like one of his paintings bordered the lands of metal covers on the upper right. Great work yet again. Apr 22, 2023

I'm still completely in love with the title track after many years. Altogether a great album that is extremely heavy and extremely melodic. Apr 21, 2023

Tons of energy fill this album, and I was surprised at how much melancholy & anger come through and how well they work together. Some people say Dark Funeral is kind of mid tier or low tier, and the album cover looks pretty immature to me, but this music is really high quality and totally sincere. All pleasant surprises. The metal-adjacent pick from Banger TV, and they picked a good one. This is lo-fi enough to make raw BM fans happy. Actually it's rather rough and aggressive, and I love the combination of moods that exist all at the same time in these songs. Apr 21, 2023

Incredible. The best NWOTHM in a long time. The vocals are great, and if they had a little more variation I think this would be a perfect 100. Even the 3-minute songs feel really full of 8 minutes of music. I will be listening to this a lot. Apr 21, 2023

It's thick. It's meaty. It's chunky. It's bumpy. It's a good album. Even though I'm not into death metal, this album really impressed me. Apr 21, 2023

Well, with a band name like this, who doesn't want to try. Burly and tough stoner doom that has just a little trippiness too. They're off to a good start. Apr 21, 2023

He says this one is only virtual instruments. Some people feel like this is cheating... anyway, every release this guy puts out sounds good to me, so I'll just be thankful his music exists. Apr 21, 2023

Warped and bizarre feelings fill this rather long album, and it's a total pro performance for every millisecond. A real class act. Apr 21, 2023

I liked everything on the album. I think only some songs are excellent, but they all have emotion. For some reason I expected the Judas Priest cover to be even more amazing, but it was pretty good. Apr 21, 2023

I liked this a lot more than I thought I was going to, and I can take it a lot more seriously than I usually take viking metal. This album has an intense aura of sadness & suffering that gives weight to the violent themes. Respect to Bathory for both vision and skills in composition. Apr 21, 2023

First of all the dark atmosphere is so overpowering that I can't believe they had any light in the room when they recorded this. Second, this is absurdly good for a debut. Apr 21, 2023

Stripsearch is great to have before Last Cup of Sorrow. The songs are mostly top-tier, but some unnecessary fadeouts weaken the album a little. Anyway, this music has a strong romantic and sexy side, which metal often lacks (especially all-male bands), so respect to Faith No More for being well rounded. Apr 20, 2023

I felt so close to giving this one a perfect score. The second half of the album is perfect. Also, these guys really astound me because of how they pack so much energy into their playing. Is it practice, inspiration, or both? Apr 18, 2023

This album has a very nice & wide open feel due to the production. I liked all of the songs. I don't find much of the music very Oriental. Anyway, a good listen. Apr 18, 2023

I'm reminded of the days when I listened to a lot of alternative rock, when alternative rock was actually an alternative to something. This album feels like one of those 90s bands ventured as deeply into doom as they could. While the result isn't actually 100% doom, it's still very good music. Apr 16, 2023

This band doesn't hold back; they unleash the fury. At times it's rather Kyuss. Also, whoah, what's up with all the swearing dude? Definitely recommended to people who have heard of the electric guitar. Apr 16, 2023

The soundscape and the playing are great, but the songwriting didn't really get to the same level until the album was more than half through. Apr 16, 2023

Cyber Gothic metal instrumentation to glib songs urging us to wage war, but the vocal delivery & symphonic element undercut the surface meaning and make it a sad condemnation of humanity's violent history. I find this pretty thoughtful and it touches my heart to be honest. Apr 16, 2023

Nov 4, 2024

Their most representative album of the eighties, full of innovation and class, with forceful themes and a benchmark in style for the hard rock genre, in fact it is their best-selling work to date! My personal precise rating is (94/100) Faves: Criyng In The Rain and Don´t Turn Away! Oct 30, 2024

완벽하다. 지금와서 painkiller 정도의 힘을 기대하는 것은 무리지만 관록과 경험으로 영그러진 놀라운 앨범을 냈다. 엔지니어링도 크게 한몫했다. Oct 31, 2024
