Maybe half metal, maybe less... There are beautiful airy melodies on this album, and they make their specialty cleverly dark humor. I had a good time. Apr 1, 2023

Cosmic in the sense of sci-fi adventures and spaceships. Not like Darkspace - more like Lustre, Basarabian Hills, & Mesarthim. Also, quite original. Also well played and packed with emotion. Apr 1, 2023

I don't know why I was expecting it to be weaker than the 2013 album. I'm especially struck by how much beauty is in the melodies of all these very well-written songs. Apr 1, 2023

I remembered loving a lot of this album (got the CD back in the 90s) but totally didn't remember how well produced it was. Layne is on fire and there's lots of thoughtful guitarwork. Very good album. Apr 1, 2023

This had a gigantic effect on me. It came to feel like a historical event happened today just because it was playing on my speakers. Funny, I feel a little guilty liking the album the most that has the most evocative, iconic, and legendary cover art. For me the perfect 100 listening experience and perfect album art coming together are not too good to be true. Mar 28, 2023

I really love their style of metal and their style of hard rock; they just have good taste. On this album I found some songs medium emotional and others extremely emotional. Actually, most of the best written songs were more hard rock than metal and more concentrated in the first few tracks and last few... if you ask me. Mar 28, 2023

There's a lot to love on this awesome instrumental album - mostly djent, but there is some cool 80s heavy metal solo on it too. Mar 27, 2023

More evil on this album than on 10 of your average black metal albums combined, like the earth concentrated into a teaspoon of black hole. The playing is not perfect but it's so full of energy and the freezing guitar taking turns with the medieval sounds is very very pleasing. Mar 27, 2023

There's some great music on here and a bunch of filler too. I'll be happy to play this again and skip a bunch of parts. There are also some lyrics that are painfully corny here. I was squirming in agony. I like to quote lyrics to so you can see which ones I mean, but I also like to avoid my computer screen from catching on hellfire because of the awful writing.... Almost as good as the 2022 album. Actually this one takes a while to get to the really emotional & beautiful parts. Also, you're probably guessing this will sound like Sadness to you based on the cover art, and you're probably right. Mar 27, 2023

Better than I remembered. Actually, the first 3 tracks have videos & visualizers, but they're by far the weakest tracks. The best songs on this album are not as heavy as you might expect, but they're soothing + beautiful and the drumming is captivating. It feels kinda proggy and often has country vibes. A very good final album by the veterans. Mar 24, 2023

Master-tier melodies come up often on this album. Amazing debut. Actually, the singer should work on his ability to project more, but the sounds, including his singing are so full of feeling. Though this is more stoner than doom, this is the best new stoner doom release I can remember since Fat Grass. Thank you Destronomer. Mar 24, 2023

A good album that is very very dark. However, it is hard to compete with that brilliant album cover. Mar 24, 2023

I tend to expect totally transcendent excellence from Deftones, but that's not fair, right? This is a pretty good album. I totally love Swerve City, but a lot of the softer songs feel not so focused, and Chino's vocal techniques, which I just love, sound a little out of place here & there. I know some people love this one, but for me it's just plain good. Mar 24, 2023

Good gritty underground sound. It has some really adrenaline-pumping parts and nothing is particularly weak. A good instrumental album. Mar 24, 2023

The heaviness and terror stay with me after playing this album, even though I find it hard to recall much of the melody. Short & powerful album! Mar 24, 2023

They made a good decision by releasing this; it was a lot of fun to listen to. The old lo-fi original recordings' details jump out a lot more. It feels like being in the studio with these guys, which is obviously their intention with conversations between the tracks included. I'm guessing some people won't listen to this many times, but I think you'll be glad you tried at least once. Mar 24, 2023

I like this one more than Demanufacture. Obsolete's grooves are catchy and make me bob my head. All types of vocals on this album work very well. Extremely glad I listened to it. Mar 24, 2023

It's the same earth-shattering cinematic sound of their 1st & 3rd albums, but on this one I find the songwriting not up to the same level of excellence of those other albums, except on the last few songs. Anyway, I love the drum sound in particular. Also, this band still deserves tons more recognition. Mar 24, 2023

I find it impressive how they took some doom & death metal material and brought this blackened terror to the sound. It must have angered a lot of fans who don't expect such a rough & quick recording from a well-established band, but the sound is fun in a way for me. Overall, worth a listen. Mar 24, 2023

Very ambitious and good variety. It's not a perfect album and some tracks are so-so for me with the vocals sometimes not motivated enough. The bright spots on this album outshine the sun, especially the guitar melodies. Also, this is my favorite Baroness album cover. Overall, the album is dominated by peaceful soothing elements that make friends with rebellious rocky elements. A very special record. Mar 22, 2023

I loved it. After all these years, the Kamelot guys still create new songs that have something to say and are totally genuine / nothing sounding forced. From the heavier moments, to the more sentimental or poppier, I liked everything. Also fun to see superstar guest performances when every song relies on totally solid songwriting anyway. Thank you Kamelot. Mar 22, 2023

A band I've loved for many years, with the excellent use they make of stoner & progressive metal. This album is a bit inconsistent, but that's just because the rather good songs have a noticeable gap to the absolute masterpieces. Riffage, composition, arrangement execution, guitar sound, & passion - any dimension you can measure music in tells you that this is great stuff. Mar 22, 2023

To my ears, this album was pretty good despite how I so seldom like any metalcore bands. Too many vocals is a problem throughout the record. However, I don't find many other negative points - just some points that are not so strong. The guitarwork is not so interesting for me, and is mostly not so emotional either. The drummer stays very active and brings great energy to the songs; for me, that's the best part of the album. Mar 22, 2023

Nov 4, 2024

Their most representative album of the eighties, full of innovation and class, with forceful themes and a benchmark in style for the hard rock genre, in fact it is their best-selling work to date! My personal precise rating is (94/100) Faves: Criyng In The Rain and Don´t Turn Away! Oct 30, 2024

완벽하다. 지금와서 painkiller 정도의 힘을 기대하는 것은 무리지만 관록과 경험으로 영그러진 놀라운 앨범을 냈다. 엔지니어링도 크게 한몫했다. Oct 31, 2024
