After thoroughly enjoying Hail Stan, this new one was truly painful to listen to. Maybe it should be called Emo Is Not A Genre, because there's more emo than djent. The corny sappy parts are unlistenable, the singing is often cringey and poorly performed, there are totally extraneous and phony commercial-sounding orchestrations and other filler, and some embarrassingly clichéd lyrics. There's some good heaviness and djent, but it's not enough to save this album. Mar 12, 2023

Extremely inspiring sound on this one. I'm trying to remember if I ever felt this feeling in my life before hearing this album, and I can't find anything like it in my brain cells. That's a special gift from the Mechina members. I can't find any flaw and the whole thing captivates me. A masterpiece to my ears. Mar 12, 2023

I really love this album. Everything from the lyrics, instrumentation, and melodies speak to me through some kind of deep channel. The best record from this super group, and maybe Chris is still my favorite singer. Thank you to every member for this album. Mar 12, 2023

I was blown away by the quality of everything on this album. Also even just the album title helps me learn more about history. The traditional East Asian instruments and the metal make an absolutely gorgeous combination here. Full of musicianship and passion. Mar 12, 2023

It's one of those wonderfully harsh yet soothing albums. The grainy sound quality is almost lo-fi enought to be called raw BM, but not quite enough. The Dungeon Synth works very well and is very brief, 2 good points for my tastes. A+ choice for the album cover too. Welcome brand new artist with an ancient name. Mar 12, 2023

For a lot of the album, I was happy about the style, but not the songwriting. I think the typical verse & chorus patterns were making the melodies feel forced and weak. There are some standout tracks: I especially liked Feed Us and the ELO cover on the limited edition. These songs and some other moments move this up from average album to slightly good. Mar 12, 2023

I came here trying to find something similar to Alluvial. This is totally different, but still quite good. Mar 12, 2023

This is a very well written djent album that successfully gives the feeling of a soundtrack through a timetraveling scifi adventure. Without any vocals, and better than most djent artists that feature vocals, his music on this one is not as unique as it gets starting with his 2021 album. However, Timeless is still very good music. Very good, and I can't stop looking at that cover photo. Stylewise, it has a lot of very vicious post-black moments, with some much softer blackgaze, some sudden shifts into doom, and tiny bits of atmospheric BM and ambient. This is not a blend, but a sampling of sub-genres. The best songwriting is concentrated in the heavier moments, and there are more of them in the first half. Throughout, it's a very emotional album. A step up in making their compositions more powerful. I loved their style and sound to death with on the debut, and this one maintains 100% of the good points and makes them all better. Bravo guys. Also, I have a feeling whatever you're favorite type of black metal is you might feel this album is it. Besides depressive and atmospheric, it also leans melancholic melodic kult & post. Just listen to the whole thing before you call me crazy, OK? Mar 9, 2023

Debut self-titled album from a band with a very predictable name. With the effort and attention to nuance in these melodies, this duo deserves the name and makes it something to take seriously. Also, the album sounds as good as that album cover, if you can believe it. Mar 9, 2023

Dank & fantastic. The album cover is okay, but all the music is so much better. I'm almost tempted to move the score up to 95. However, I don't feel it's absolute top tier, but so close. The guitar tone totally shakes my soul, and the singing at times is captivating. Very good stoner doom. Mar 8, 2023

The veteran melodic black metal band from Spain deserves respect for this totally solid release. For me however, the artwork by Mariusz Lewandowski is an even bigger achievement. It's amazing to me that now another great painting shows up in the metal world after he died. I didn't think we'd be blessed with another one after the Obituary album. Anyway, I don't mean to detract from the music. Frozen Dawn sounds great, and I need to check out their earlier stuff. Mar 8, 2023

I'm discovering this band has been quite prolific since its rather recent formation. This is some good black metal; just bear in mind that the vocals are deathy instead of blackened. Mar 8, 2023

First of all, that's a delightful album title. Second of all, Veilburner is a very strange band, and they find new ways to be strange on each album; even from song to song there are new unique sounds and song structures. The insane sonic assault from this band might actually terrify some people. Listen at your own risk; you might become a ghoul of lunacy. Mar 8, 2023

Incredible album from start to finish. Most of the songwriting is power metal at its finest, but the other parts are top-tier progressive metal. The singer steals the show in my opinion. Those incessantly catchy and beautifully sung lines kept astounding me again and again and again. High 95, almost 100. Mar 8, 2023

What's happening with the vocals? The vocal melodies are uninspired, and the singer didn't find a way to make them beautiful. There is some rather dark guitarwork that I enjoyed a lot in some places, so there were some bright spots. Actually the instruments were mostly decent, but overall it's a mediocre album. Mar 8, 2023

Absolute top-tier black metal. It's misty like usual for her, but with this one there are monstrously evil parts that are also frigid. For me, the highlight is the last song, the longest track, which she ends boldly and decisively, making the very emotional composition even stronger. Many artists don't find the guts to write this way, and Brouillard deserves massive respect and gratitude. Mar 8, 2023

I listened to the whole thing with no complaints, and I'm not so into straight up ambient. It's a great soundscape, but I think it does repeat a few times. Very underground demo kind of stuff. If you're cool with that, then give it a try. Mar 8, 2023

I was into it the whole way through, and I respect them for keeping it passionate. Also, it's cool how you can feel the hardcore punk influence coming through because of its link with sludge. Mar 8, 2023

Here's one of those well-regarded bands that I never got around to. I'm really impressed by how this album jumps between quite a few sub-genres, plays each one very well, and makes them fit together naturally. Especially with that softer type of proggy stuff which can sometimes lose my attention. I will be trying more from their discography. Respect to the veteran band. Mar 4, 2023

Very good sadness in the arrangements. Overall I found the album good but not great. Though I usually listen to indecipherable vocals and never think twice about it, with this album I started wondering if I would appreciate it more if I understood French. Mar 4, 2023

Just what I wanted out of gothic metal. The singing melodies are great. I have a feeling some people might find the songwriting repetitive, but I find it dependably changes right before the point of becoming repetitive. For most of the album the beauty & the beast singing works wonderfully, one little time the voices didn't quite work together, but all in all I loved what I was hearing. Mar 4, 2023

I was driving on the highway while listening to this, and suddenly I wanted my destination to be farther away, and I wanted this album to be longer. Everything is so excellent, especially after the first few songs. Also the singing was just right, and rest in peace Riley. Mar 4, 2023

Another good recent BM EP! This one starts off with an intro track, and the second song has an intro in it's opening seconds. That's a really basic mistake I think bands should absolutely stop at once. Anyway, after the intros the cold crushing agony blasts through the mist, and Cosmic Forest proves he can bring the feeling. It stays that good for the rest of the EP and makes up for the little problem in the beginning. Mar 4, 2023

Right from the start I'm in a rusty polluted world of misery. In other words, I love the atmosphere. As usual for Godflesh, nothing is really conventional so of course it's not for everyone, but it's most certainly for weirdos like me. Songs range from good to fantastic, and I love track 8 the most. Bjes starts off their discography with a poignantly sad EP. If you're like me you'll like the melodies as much as you like that sick logo. Mar 4, 2023

A very good album from an artist who tries new things each time. This time it's mainly traditional doom, but the atmospheric black metal contrasts nicely with that. Also, I appreciated the sax. Everything works well on this one. Well done Ethir Anduin. Mar 4, 2023

Nov 4, 2024

Their most representative album of the eighties, full of innovation and class, with forceful themes and a benchmark in style for the hard rock genre, in fact it is their best-selling work to date! My personal precise rating is (94/100) Faves: Criyng In The Rain and Don´t Turn Away! Oct 30, 2024
