A strong enough album, but Primordial did lose a bit of what made their previous, Doom-tinged album so strong, and they play too much with boring interludes. Jan 21, 2024

Orange Goblin are pretty good at their craft. Every song is solidly composed. But there's nothing memorable to it. Jan 21, 2024

Merciful Fate deliver another solid dark Heavy Metal album. Fear is one of my favorite tracks by the band. Jan 21, 2024

Standard but very serviceable late 90's Gothic Metal. About as generic as that sound gets, but it's done well, and the closer is fantastic. Jan 21, 2024

Very unpleasant, the vocal delivery is especially grating. Lacking in anything positive for me to enjoy. Jan 21, 2024

It's not Doom Metal, even a little bit. Full on Stoner Metal here, and most of it is okay for the genre, but nothing special. Jan 21, 2024

Definitely a big step down for Candlemass. But I do find it unfairly maligned; the meat of the album is still very strong Epic Doom. Jan 21, 2024

Solid Folk/Prog Metal here, very consistent, but lacking in true highlights. Jan 21, 2024

Therapy? definitely dropped down a few tiers with this one. Some of the songs are just unpleasant and don't make much sense from a songwriting perspective, like they didn't know what they were doing. However, it's got a surprising amount of great songs hidden right smack in the middle as well. These can go toe to toe with their best. But as a hole, very unfocused. Jan 21, 2024

This was a huge surprise to me! Pyogenesis capitalized on catchy songwriting, but added energy and emotion. It's passionate, catchy, and I couldn't stop coming back for more. Very enjoyable record, if you can get past the slightly unconventional vocal delivery (for this genre). Jan 21, 2024

Very average Neoclassical Metal. He can shred, but doing something memorable with that ability is another story. Jan 21, 2024

Nothing I'd ever want to hear again in this goofy Avant-Garde affair. Jan 21, 2024

Never got the hype for this band, especially outside of Relationship of Command. Pretty substandard Post-Hardcore that lacks passion or memorable leads. Jan 21, 2024

What a unique record. There are incredibly strong parts, mostly focused on the doomier sections with brilliant guitar harmonies. Unfortunately, we've also got jovial Folky stuff popping up to ruin the mood. Songwriting here just wasn't always working, but the parts that do hit, hit just right. Jan 20, 2024

Very sub par mix of Hardcore Punk and Groove Metal. Riffs are incredibly one note, and the rhythm section is really just doing the bare minimum. The rare Thrashy sections are the strongest. Jan 20, 2024

One of the earliest Trad Doom bands around. And they did fairly well at this sound, too. The bookending tracks are the best. Jan 20, 2024

One of those Metalcore records that /almost/ has what it takes to stand out, but just doesn't go that extra mile. And thus, another competently played, but unmemorable, Metalcore record. Jan 20, 2024

Another move towards a heavier sound, and thus more improvement. Still, it ranks below par in terms of Folk Metal. The more Progressive/Power Metal sections are quite good, though. Jan 20, 2024

A strong dose of Stoner Metal into this already bland Sludge band's sound just made it more boring and repetitive. Nothing enjoyable for me on this one. Jan 20, 2024

The band continues to play a style of Nu/Groove Metal that doesn't resonate with me, but this is a very clear improvement in their sound. Moments of strength do arise here. Jan 20, 2024

Sub par Melodeath. Some Gothic or Folky elements at times, not enough to make it unique, but it's a solid enough record. Jan 20, 2024

Entombed took a dive here. Way less Death Metal, way more Stoner Metal. Most songs are on the boring side, but a few, like the opening track, retain some key energy and catchy riffage. Jan 20, 2024

Enslaved remain a strong and consistent band, though this threatens to be the weakest album they had released at the time. Jan 20, 2024

Acid Drinkers playing their usual game here. Groove Metal with some Crossover Thrash and a healthy dose of humor. And still not doing much for me. Jan 20, 2024

Interesting musical ideas here, but the vocals are quite bad, they don't work here. Jan 20, 2024

Full of great, classic Vader material... and then two atrocious club/dance remixes. Worth it for the keeps, but I'd never listen to the full thing. Jan 20, 2024

The style here is largely similar to the previously symphonic Passage. Unfortunately, it just doesn't have the same magic, but it's still strong enough. Jan 20, 2024

Some awesome material here. But not always consistent, and the EP is dragged down by the unbearable final track. Jan 20, 2024

Brilliant mix of their Doom and Gothic sound. The original tracks here are great, Quiet World specifically is essential listening. Jan 20, 2024

This thing was quite an unpleasant experience. Very noisy and dissonant, without building any impressive atmospheres. Jan 20, 2024

3 days ago

Great classic album with incredible songs like "The Evil That Men do","Moonchild" or "The Clairvoyant". Mar 4, 2025

Mar 10, 2025

I'm pretty sure this is the best debut in history. Sonata Arctica immediately does what they do best and the result is amazing. "FullMoon" is a great song. Mar 11, 2025

Great album but not at the level of the debut in my opinion. The band tries a bit of progressive direction with pretty good results, although some songs are quite weak. The end of the album is great. Good job Sonata! Mar 11, 2025

DT caught my attention with their previous album and this one confirms my thoughts on them. I´m not so fond of their old stuffs but these 2 keep me on my feet and I will go back to them regularly. Mar 12, 2025

Very good album by Dream Theater. As always Mar 4, 2025

The "Ram It Down" is a very underrated album, but in 1988 in the german Metal Hammer looked like a new classic by the soundcheck.Otherwise the "Ram it Down" and the "Hard As Iron"(with thundering riff) are great fast classic Priest songs. All in all i think only the "Love Zone" is the only one problematic song and the Lp is great.. Mar 8, 2025
