독일 스래쉬 메탈 밴드 Dust Bolt는 2016년 발표한 Mass Confusion을 통해 여전히 80년대 스타일의 스래쉬를 계승하려는 그들의 노력을 보여준다. 하지만 문제는 바로 여기에 있다. 2014년작 Awake the Riot과 비교했을 때 음악적으로 달라진 점이 거의 없다는 것이다. Mass Confusion 앨범 또한 거칠고 공격적인 리프로 시작되지만, 이미 이전 앨범에서 답습한 내용 그대로다. 속도감 있는 전개와 특유의 에너지는 고갈될 기미가 보이질 않지만, 차별화된 요소를 찾기는 어려워 보인다. 본작의 가장 큰 문제점은 특정 곡을 들어도 어느 앨범에 수록되어 있는지 구별하기 어려울 정도로 자기복제의 정도가 과하다. 특히 리프의 구조와 곡들은 하나같이 비슷해서 전작과 이 앨범의 차이를 분간하기 어려울 지경이다. 80년대 스래쉬 메탈을 동경하는 올드 리스너들이 아무리 너그러울지라도 똑같은 패턴이 세 번째 앨범에 이르러서도 반복되고 있은 것에 너그러운 반응을 보일지는 의문이다. Dust Bolt 더 성장하기 위해서는 과감한 변화가 필요해 보인다.
