I didn't feel it as much as The Woods will End You. I think this band has since found it's way, and this is a good earlier step. Jun 7, 2022

It didn't sound like I imagined, but I still liked it. The clean vocals are very interesting. They don't have the vibrato and bravado and reverberation and other features I would call great singing, but these songs have these intense good vibes and charisma. It overall sounds like very recent metal, but the solos take it back to the 80s or even the 70s. Totally clear here that these guys play exactly what they love. Jun 7, 2022

2 great songs that switch between very different genres and styles, and the White Ward members know how to make these switches feel natural. Jun 7, 2022

In the beginning, I started having feelings that it was going to be boring. I'm really glad I stuck with it though. It builds the tension and I felt like I got a special benefit from listening to some kinda empty trudging parts. In the end not fantastic in my opinion, but good enough to make me thankful I listened to the whole thing. Jun 7, 2022

This sounds like driving through pitch black wide open country with sunglasses on. Jun 7, 2022

I'm in pure bliss when these textures are so thick on very moving songs. Jun 7, 2022

Great power metal by Visigoth, and woah, the singing. Conqueror's oath is even a little better than this, but no way can I give this one anything under 90. Jun 6, 2022

Usually stoner and psychedelic rock or metal just bring me straight into outer space. This left me feeling not much at all. Jun 6, 2022

This album is a constant 32 minutes of "wow' and "what the heck is that?" (in a good way). Jun 6, 2022

It has some good moments but something detracts from my enjoyment. There are some voiceovers that give the album a plot to match the cover artwork, and I find the acting not so great. I like the Celtic sounding fiddle at the end. I think definitely good but nowhere near great. Jun 6, 2022

It's a little too death metal for me, giving me the cookie monster feeling a little, so I'm trying to be fair. The guitar work and composition are good, and it has some nice atmosphere as well. Mostly, I gave it a listen for the Djent, and I'm glad I did. I'll say if Deathcore is your thing, you might like it the same or even more than me. Jun 6, 2022

I really like the drumming on this one, his style and the way it was recorded. Overall it's nice music but I don't get into it too much. I'm not a big fan of deathcore, so I'm pleasantly surprised this is good. Two Towers stands out for me as a beautiful song. Jun 4, 2022

Experimental indeed. This is the weirdest most unorthodox metal album I can recall hearing. In terms of raw power and enjoyability, I might rank it kind of lower, but the imagination and all the uniqueness really put a big smile on my face. I won't describe the sound in detail here because I'd probably write 5,000 words or so. Just listen to it. Jun 4, 2022

I can't really enjoy this one. Too much stopping and starting. It's like a Severoth song stretched out for 128 minutes with lots of silence. Maybe I should've expected background ambient music, but that's not something I like anyway. There are little bits of dungeon synth, and even fewer blasts of black metal. Not for me. Jun 4, 2022

All played so perfectly. It doesn't excite me as much as some of their other albums, but I definitely love the band. Jun 4, 2022

Tons of energy on this album, and I love the Ministry style, samples and all. I know some don't but it really brings me to an industrial happy place. Jun 4, 2022

I like it. I feel its a little similar to doom for most songs. Also, a very nice kind of lo-fi sound. Some compositions are great and evocative, like Nothing. Some songs are just OK. Nothing's bad. Also, so far this year so much of the black metal is from Germany. Jun 3, 2022

Unique guitar sound, nice mixing in of elements usually not in black metal... snapping fingers, it's enjoyable. I appreciate bands thinking outside of the box like this. I can't pinpoint where anything could be better, the score here is just about level of enjoyment, which was very good. Please keep playing and recording. Jun 3, 2022

After more than 3 decades they are creating some of their best music. That's not only rare, but also beautiful and inspiring. Every song on this album is great to my ears. Jun 3, 2022

Here's a full album with only good songs. I don't find any song in particular to be great. Also, some of the lyrics felt kinda funny to me, especially on track 1 with the call and response. Jun 3, 2022

Thank you Questy for recommending this one. Some Drudkh influence here, and for guys like me, that 's already a must-listen. Like Drudkh, this is thoroughly harsh while decidedly prioritizing the atmosphere, but feels a little folk too. A lot of the best USA black metal these days is very unorthodox. Same here, but don't misunderstand; it's 100% black metal. Also, the rhythmic variety keeps it fresh, start to finish. Overall, gigantic, cathartic, and full of adrenaline. Jun 3, 2022

So much is so excellent on this album; lyrics, instrumentation, songwriting, production values, and both singers. It's just enjoy, enjoy, enjoy. I like some other albums by them more, but I can't find any negative criticism for this one in me. Jun 3, 2022

I find it really hard to give this album a score because it has some aspects of it are top tier and some are so-so. Of course he's a guitar phenom, but on some tracks all the other instruments are so generic. Some songs feel so commercial and for your grandmother, and those same songs are also kinda stuck in the 80s. The straight up electric blues songs are pure gold, and the third or so of the album is just as good. Everything considered, totally worth a listen. Jun 3, 2022

Well here's a debut and a new artist to welcome. At 17 minutes, I think this EP establishes that they have a great grasp on the black metal sound, but I would want to hear more variety and a longer release from them before I pass judgement on this duo as an artist. These 4 songs are definitely cool and exciting, but I hope for better still. Jun 1, 2022

I always called this one "Three Legged Dog". Now I finally know what the whole thing is like, and I'm surprised the quality was so high! I guess I was silly enough to think it wasn't as good as their early 90s releases. It's totally at the same level. Also, Heaven Beside You = absolute masterpiece. Jun 1, 2022

For me, this is a favorite band coming back to their highest levels of creation. Very powerful songs with a masterful touch in songwriting and super well played. Jun 1, 2022

After so many years I just heard the whole thing. In the beginning I don't find it very exciting. Then No Excuses the is top-tier song that I've always loved insanely. Overall, a short EP with one masterpiece and a few good and a few so-so songs. Also, props for creating something as bizarre as Whale & Wasp. Jun 1, 2022

Nov 4, 2024

Their most representative album of the eighties, full of innovation and class, with forceful themes and a benchmark in style for the hard rock genre, in fact it is their best-selling work to date! My personal precise rating is (94/100) Faves: Criyng In The Rain and Don´t Turn Away! Oct 30, 2024

완벽하다. 지금와서 painkiller 정도의 힘을 기대하는 것은 무리지만 관록과 경험으로 영그러진 놀라운 앨범을 냈다. 엔지니어링도 크게 한몫했다. Oct 31, 2024
