Definitely like it. Listened first, then I found out it's a compilation. The songs on this tend toward straight up black metal, but some of them get kinda pagan, and others get kinda folk. Nothing's bad, but I didn't get my mind blown either. Still, I recommend giving it a try. Jun 1, 2022

There's some great singing on this album, and it sounds like rather accomplished musicians. The compositions aren't so compelling for me, so I can't give it over 80. Jun 1, 2022

So many new albums are so good for me this month. With this one, I thought I was giving death metal a try, but this album is pretty blackened. We should probably call it a straight up blackened death metal album. The instrumentation sounds great, and it has great moods and a grandiose style. Eternal hails to these veterans. Jun 1, 2022

A nice long album from an artist I've never heard of before. It gets really heavy, a little soft, totally melancholic sometimes, then a little doom-laden and depresseive, and then real nature-loving like Elderwind. The variety makes this one really notable. May 31, 2022

I like it a lot more than I thought I was going to. Very nice dark feelings here with emotions coming through clearly and atmosphere blowing at full blast. The only negative thing I could possibly say is that I'm not crazy about the album cover. After six years they produce the counterpoint to Absence, and the result is that they've improved nicely. I really liked it. Also, it's pretty much on the atmospheric side of things, and I heard that their music usually isn't like that. Even though atmospheric is what I lean toward, I'm gonna check out their other releases because of the quality songwriting and tight playing on I utakt med verden. May 31, 2022

I can feel this music deep in my heart. In style, similar to Ethereal Shroud and Sadness. In my opinion those are some difficult bands to equal, but also great sources of inspiration. Very lo-fi and DIY. A little crackle made it onto the recording in a couple of parts, but very good music. The album is 'Melancholia' in the Cyrillic alphabet. May 30, 2022

I love this one. There's a lot of metal, and all kinds of music, that gets really sentimental and makes you feel kinda embarrassed to listen to around certain company. Bands like Tesseract manage to get really sentimental without the cringiness. Also, I can tell by listening to this that Tesseract only considers a song as the final version if it truly works. I wish all bands would try to do the same. May 29, 2022

Very enjoyable, and the drums do all kinds of things, from complicated to lots of stamina, and of course the classic blackened banging monkey. Good new artists coming out all the time. May 27, 2022

Yes this gets insanely busy and full of mind-warping progressive guitar-work and rhythms. I guess it's what we all come to progressive metal artists for. The song-writing could be a little better. When the singing comes in, there's just too much of it for too long. The singer has vocal skill, but I think they didn't put in enough breaks. When there's no singing, I enjoy it more. May 27, 2022

Big and ambitious like usual for these guys. There're tons of great music on this album. I fell especially in love with The Alien, and regularly played the music video for it before heading to bed for the last third of 2021. Very impressive and very replayable. May 26, 2022

Post black metal gets dismissed by some metalheads, but they'll probably like this if they just try it. It's nice and vigorous through and through, and really heavy most of the time. This is also melancholic in style. Really rich sound and lots of feeling. May 26, 2022

Very blackened and, like usual for Battle Dagorath, kinda in Evil Feast, Paysage d'Hiver, Darkspace territory, but a more classic heavy metal feel comes through a couple times for me. This is a consistently good band that deserves more attention. May 26, 2022

'III I' was a little more powerful for me, but this album grabs your soul and flies it through dark matter and higgs bosons until you're not made of Euclidean angles anymore. May 26, 2022

The stygian organ at the beginning made me feel like this was gonna be some of the most powerful black metal ever. It fell a little short of that, but I guess I jumped to conclusions. I shouldn't be disappointed; it's really good, and the singer is a powerhouse. May 26, 2022

First I listened to his 2022 album, and I'm impressed at how good this earlier one is, when even now this is a very new project. Yes it sounds kinda DIY, but sometimes I'm in the mood for that anyway. Sometimes getting a little blackgazey, and intriguing throughout. Starer has grown and experimented very well. May 26, 2022

I've heard this band name somewhere, and now I'm so happy to find that their music is my favorite style. This one is so frightening and mysterious, and it has this unique sound that makes it distinguishable from other scary black metal. When I hear this I sense unknown dangers in deep caverns in remote regions. Definitely gonna try more from Akhlys. May 26, 2022

Simply brilliant album. I started feeling hypnotized after the first couple of songs. Then with the later songs I was full of adrenaline. Getting a little pagan and then getting a little folky adds some nice variety. My favorite song is The Price of Freedom, but the whole album rocks as hard as anything. May 26, 2022

I think Epica used all their years of experience to finally make the music even more powerful than ever. Also, listening to these studio recordings, it even feels kind of live. I think they were really on fire when playing them for the album, like they were truly excited to be playing these songs. The whole album just astounds me. May 26, 2022

Already one of my favorite bands, these guys surprised me by finding new stylistic ground on this album. Like with Ænima, it took me a while to figure out how to feel what's happening in these songs, but when I got used to them I just started loving them more and more, taking 4 years to reach the top. I used to play this cassette almost every night. Sometimes I fell asleep after a song or 2, sometimes I played the whole thing then flipped it back to Side A to hear it again. I had visions of the universe and started figuring out how I see the universe. The music from lyrics to time signatures to guitar textures, everything on this one is hugely powerful in delivering meaning. I truly love this album. May 26, 2022

I love how they manage to shift from sub-genre of metal to sub-genre until the album has almost every kind of metal that has ever existed. It's like if they learn to play anything, they can instantly switch it to any type of music, yet it still feels natural. May 24, 2022

Even better than Einsamer Winterweg. This album gets kind of post for a few movements, but lets not make an elephant in the room of the 2-ton depressive black metal on this album. Also some atmosphere in there, it's like the band was planning for me in particular to love it. May 24, 2022

Man these albums that look run of the mill sometimes are just so well composed, inventive, and played with the right timing to create the passion and tension. This album turned a bright and sunny morning into something more my style. May 24, 2022

Well if it's gonna be at the top of this year's charts for so long, I just have to listen to it, right? It happens that I had a great complicated progressive time, especially when it got rather djent. Some like it more than me, but it's definitely good. May 24, 2022

Fuzzy and sludgy, this is that awesome slow and medium-paced black metal that you feel throughout your whole body. Great for a first release. Spooky and reminiscent of a silent forest clearing when you think of all the life and death that created that scene. Field recordings A+ I just want it to never end, played 4 times late one evening.

Nov 4, 2024

Their most representative album of the eighties, full of innovation and class, with forceful themes and a benchmark in style for the hard rock genre, in fact it is their best-selling work to date! My personal precise rating is (94/100) Faves: Criyng In The Rain and Don´t Turn Away! Oct 30, 2024

완벽하다. 지금와서 painkiller 정도의 힘을 기대하는 것은 무리지만 관록과 경험으로 영그러진 놀라운 앨범을 냈다. 엔지니어링도 크게 한몫했다. Oct 31, 2024
