This album does a fantastic job at emitting a well-defined mood and just soaking you in it for 30 minutes. Very post-rock, ambient, and art rock vibes here. I suspect some people find this boring and others find it genius. The genius element is there and probably hard to pick up on, so it's not for everyone but it's quite an accomplishment. Oct 24, 2023

Definitely the best straight black metal album I've heard this year. I especially loved the drumming, but everything is amazing. Each song is burning with evil power, and it's great for playing repeatedly. Almost a perfect score. Major respect to Asagraum. Oct 22, 2023

The female vocals are pretty fantastic and the band injects life & energy into the songs, which are somewhat good. The lyrics are both weak and silly, and it's really weird how they keep saying 'hermitage' again and again while pronouncing some kind of hybrid between the English and the French word. All in all, good but not very good. Oct 22, 2023

If you must know, yes the first thing I thought of was Skeletor. Anyway, this album is full of great moments. Oct 21, 2023

Oh hell yes, Lovecraftian themes expressed so beautifully through musical composition in addition to the words on the album. I learned this was blackened death metal, but I was surprised at how deeply melancholic it is. This fits perfectly with Lovecraft's lonely protagonists who venture out of humanity's sight. There's arcane atmosphere as well. Almost tempted to move it up to 95. Class act all around. Oct 20, 2023

The singer spits venom & vitriol to depressive melodies and spacious frosty atmosphere. There are lots of great touches, such as simple yet inventive and extremely effective drumming patterns. A very busy one-man-band did a great job here. Oct 20, 2023

I think I like this one even more than their self-titled. There's just so much life in each song. I find the riffs energizing, and the passionate vocals are 100% genuine. There is constant swearing on this album, which was a rather childish and embarrassing aspect of the nu metal boom, but on this album all the swears just feel completely natural; I can't explain it. Damn, I loved this so much. I can tell it's a bit sloppy, but listening to it gives a special effect: it makes you the coolest person in the world. All in all, the music is good / not great, but the coolness factor makes it worth listening to again & again. Oct 20, 2023

If you're going to sound exactly like Rammstein, you need to write better songs and put more thought into how you play them. The singer imitates Till's voice, but doesn't have anywhere near the vocal power or creative control as him. These are mostly unispired songs, but there are a couple of moments that work well. Average it out and it's an innocuous recording. Oct 20, 2023

Another great new stoner band to keep track of. The melodies are fantastic. I feel like the singer is missing his chances to freak out and draw nice contrasts between the mellower singing. I see a clear path for these guys to make their music even more excellent. Oct 20, 2023

It's the band that doesn't want to be called nu metal, and their first album is nu metal. Also it's a very solid album with highlights and interesting changes of pace here & there. Pretty good. Oct 20, 2023

Led-Zeppelin-worship taken in a more heavy metal direction seems like the perfect strategy for success in the 80s, except almost no bands had the skill & drive to actually achieve that sound. Whitesnake's music is on that level though, and the sound of Coverdale's voice and all the instruments are so fine. Too bad some songs had a little less effort put into them. If everything was as great as Still of the Night, this would be a perfect album. Oct 20, 2023

Great mix of classic rock and contemporary stoner doom. Songwriting skills and recording are high level. I also like that album cover, but wish it was done a little better. Anyway, I'm glad to discover this band. Oct 18, 2023

Not a perfect album; some parts bothered me like the awkward chorus on The Bigger Picture. The good parts are so fantastic that this is still a great album though. I was actually considering a lower score until I reached the last track, which is 32% of the album's running time. In the end, a wonderful experience. Oct 18, 2023

Slamming brutal death metal with a wonderful foreboding feel. I really appreciate how much work went into the sound clips to coordinate with the album's theme and help us imagine the dreadful sci-fi calamity playing out. Oct 18, 2023

Pretty good thrash, but I can't call any track particularly great. There are some very good moments though. A major drawback is that this album returns to slow acoustic and clean sections way too often, which are so much weaker than the thrashy moments. Nothing particularly bad. Kind of good. Oct 17, 2023

Eddie's guitarwork and Alex's drumming are fantastic, but Sammy drags down the quality a little. Actually, on the first track he really mimics Dave's approach and this works pretty well. Except for track 1 and Dreams though, Sammy makes it more like so-so mom rock. Oct 17, 2023

They deserve an award for album title, track titles, & theme. This sub-genre gets some hate even from metalheads, but Blastocystia shows a sincere love for their music, and this comes through on the fantastic instrumentation. I absolutely loved every second of this album; even the pig squeals were fun. Album of the day without a doubt. Oct 17, 2023

You can get lost in the hazy dreariness for the whole 43 minutes. There are a few standout moments of gorgeous emotional release. The vast majority of the time, I'll say it's good but not great. Oct 17, 2023

Surprise of the day. Great energy, and they keep focus throughout the whole album - no filler. The vocals are really uncomfortable to listen to in a few places, but I get the feeling that this is intentional. I still don't know if I understand what sasscore is. To me this feels like indie rock like Sleater-Kinney. Anyway, I'm impressed. Oct 17, 2023

This luscious sound really brightened up my morning. Though it doesn't get into deathcore territory, it still might feel somewhat thall - I did get a lot of wide-open & desolate moments within this djent adventure into the microchip adventure. Whether or not people want to use that buzzword for this, The Dark Atom's music is a treat as always. Oct 16, 2023

Great grindcore with a lot more melody injected into the song structure than I tend to hear. It's still not quite an everyday genre for me, but now I learn that Gridlink is the kind of grindcore I should've tried first; it just feels so great to hear their music. Oct 14, 2023

NWOTHM is going stronger than ever, and here's a bright new band for everyone to take note of. No negative points here. I just hope to see them do the exact same thing and keep perfecting it. Also, I'll bet they will. Also, that album cover is fantastic. Oct 14, 2023

Perfect recording on this gorgeous album. It has old school death metal melodies with more contemporary gurgling guttural vocals. Love the theme, love that this is merely the start of the career of a very young band. Thank you Blayne Smith for featuring these guys. Oct 14, 2023

I expected it to be good, but I didn't know there was going to be some top-tier black metal on it. Also, Aleah Stanbridge is on track 5 - another great point. Respect to Swallow the Sun for producing so much soulful music with melancholy and fury. Oct 14, 2023

Great new artists everywhere these days, and Kryss debuts with a fully developed sound and total pro instrumentation. Great atmospheric BM. If the album title sounds like so many other bands, they're deceiving you, because these guys uniquely have some heavy metal & doom moments woven in, and it gets a bit post-rock for more variety. Strong in both evil & sadness. Happy me. Oct 14, 2023

Nov 4, 2024

Their most representative album of the eighties, full of innovation and class, with forceful themes and a benchmark in style for the hard rock genre, in fact it is their best-selling work to date! My personal precise rating is (94/100) Faves: Criyng In The Rain and Don´t Turn Away! Oct 30, 2024

완벽하다. 지금와서 painkiller 정도의 힘을 기대하는 것은 무리지만 관록과 경험으로 영그러진 놀라운 앨범을 냈다. 엔지니어링도 크게 한몫했다. Oct 31, 2024
