I remembered liking this when it premiered, but now that I hear it, I find a pleasant surprise in the rousing pagan folkiness that I somehow forgot about. Actually, there are some heavy metal moments on this album too. With this variety and this quality, it's definitely recommended to everyone on this site. Mar 22, 2023

A gorgeous album cover that is also very unassuming is why the immense beauty of this album totally took me by surprise. Every song is totally excellent. Rather straight BM with some atmospheric BM songs. Respect for this band for playing together for many years until coming out with this fantastic first full-length. Yes, another great band for me to remember. Life is so hard, right? Mar 22, 2023

Good djent, busy & energizing as it should be. This is instrumental music, which has 0% of the cringeworthy sappiness that showed up on Periphery's disappointing 2023 album. It proves vocals are a dangerous thing to play with, and I totally don't need any, especially in progressive djent. Anyway, With Different Eyes just gained a new fan. Thank you. Mar 19, 2023

The songs all flow very well because of Dave Wyndorf's obvious commitment to well-crafted songs. The abundantly clever and playful lyrics also help. 54 minutes of good feelings & coolness. Mar 18, 2023

I enjoyed this whole album tons more than I thought I was going to. After all these years of knowing the singles, I finally heard the whole thing. I thought it was going to be more commercial than usual and less deep & powerful. Neither of those things were true though. The songwriting was very good throughout, the musical ideas were all interesting, and I heard passion in each track. Mar 18, 2023

Recently I discovered I love dissonant death metal a lot more than most other kinds of death metal. I was guessing I was going to love this album, and it gave me everything I was hoping for. Major respect to these guys for being so the opposite of basic. Now I see why they have such a high reputation. Mar 18, 2023

For me, this is one of the most passionate and captivating albums from the 90s grunge and Seattle bands. The songwriting is perfect and plays off the cultural signifiers in the blues, rock, & metal melodies as well as the gospel tones in Chris's voice. The song structures make me feel like an extremely dramatic plot is unfolding. I also hear a lot of control & nuance in the execution. I fully love this one. Mar 18, 2023

The same as the political issues in the lyrics, the music on all these songs is still a perfect depiction of our human society and what it's like to live in it, with all it's danger and evil. Every year that goes by I can find more & more power in these songs. Mar 18, 2023

I had such a Good Music Friday today that my head is spinning. Also, the more bands' discographies I start trying, the more Hellhammer keeps jumping in and surprising me. What a nice guy. Variety, instrumentation, and composition are all very good on this album. Mar 18, 2023

For me, instead of feeling like I'm hearing great music, I'm just having a lot of fun. That's the part of my brain that gets activated. I don't know how much you value that in scoring music, but I feel like this one's an 85. Mar 18, 2023

Again, when they release an EP of shrieks of despair I love their music the most. For this one, the guitars and synths are turned down and the drumming and vocals dominate, though there are long breaks between vocals. This gives an extremely spacious feeling. Also, I love hearing how the composition focuses on the darkwave side, even though I'm a black metal fan. Mar 18, 2023

I'm happy to listen to it and I enjoyed it, but I recognize the music is just a little good. Actually, now that I notice he has a long discography, I'm getting a hunch that there's something better than this one. I look forward to discovering the answer to that question. Mar 18, 2023

A truly great album. Yes I've read Moby Dick, and the darkest undertones of the novel and its doomed crew are given a perfect match by these songs. Also, the doom-laden guitarwork sounds like the massive power of the ocean and its fauna. The music is as bogged down as I want, and the faster parts add some depth to the record. High quality in each millisecond. Mar 18, 2023

Finding this album did a lot to improve my mood after mundane things were slowing down my day. Mellow psychedelic flowing songs that break into some crushing guitars for heavier stoner parts, the soundscape works very well. Though it's not top tier for me it's easy to recommend this one to anyone. Mar 18, 2023

I definitely get the feeling of high quality from the first moments. While I prefer Ave Maria II to this by a substantial margin, while I was listening to Earth and Her Decay, 20 minutes flew right by and I thought it was only 3 or 4 minutes. Funeral doom runs the danger of time working the opposite of that, so Déhà & Marla must be doing something right. Mar 16, 2023

This is very heavy, but I feel like it's only heavy. I mean the melodies and moods are left kind of blank. From start to finish it's also samey, and I don't get into the groove the way I do with Pantera's music. The guitarwork here is rather impressive, but I don't want to replay this. Mar 16, 2023

Very epic music to get you ready for a medieval adventure, which is the purpose of this band. Lots of variety from song to song and in all of the different vocals. For me the vocals are hit or miss, but I commend these guys for being very ambitious. Overall good. Mar 16, 2023

Good stuff and the guitars get more articulate than common for black metal. A couple songs end feeling not resolved enough. That's my only complaint. Well, also, I think we need at least 3 new albums named Hiraeth every month. The black metal community is getting kind of lazy it seems. Mar 16, 2023

I really loved this album. It's rather post, but also heavy & evil, atmospheric, and deeply deeply melancholic. That's a lot of thick layers to the feeling. It also brings a smile to my face to see B.M. mixing & mastering here. Sounding this great, I'm presuming that he did a great job and that all the musicians did exactly the same. Great new bands still popping out of the atmospheric BM fog so much it's hard to keep track. Mar 16, 2023

Their first full-length starts off with a huge bang and a mighty Euronymous as an ally. I'm figuring the piano & harpsichord are samples on this album. Either way it felt great like the rest of the album. Major respect to Sigh for giving 100% effort and dedication since the early 90s. Mar 16, 2023

Good stuff, and I find it funny that Haken's & Polyphia's styles are kind of converging these days. The instrumentation is energizing & amusing. With such difficult-sounding instruments and great composition, the singing sticks out as not being at the same level of excellence. So it's a bit of a mismatch, but the album is still a great listen. Mar 16, 2023

Obvious Burzum influence, and a somewhat depressive feel. This combination works very well for this new artist. Also, the ambient sections are good / they don't feel like filler. Good & passionate, and I enjoyed the whole thing. Mar 16, 2023

Good stoner doom metal with occasional undertones of classic rock. Consistent tone throughout, but the melodic variety is enough to keep my attention 100%. Vocal style and instrument sounds are just what I want to hear. Sabbath influence shows up, thankfully. Please write a full-length soon! Mar 16, 2023

For this album he dropped the black metal and kept all the other elements. I'm not against that, but this is not his best album. It's still good and worth a listen though, just less powerful in my opinion. Mar 16, 2023

I'm thrilled there's a new album by these guys. I don't find it an improvement on their last album, but I'm extremely thankful they kept the same level of quality and made this longer record. I seriously need to hear just this kind of music every so often. Mar 16, 2023

Folk black metal that is very rousing in the way that pagan black metal often is. Solid album with nothing warranting complaint. Mar 16, 2023

A good album. Actually I find it only good; nothing's bad and nothing's great. It has a simple feel to it, which can be a great tactic in black metal, but here I just find it kind of good and nothing more. I'm curious how I'll like other releases from them. Mar 12, 2023

This is one of the most highly rated metal albums of all time, but I think it might deserve even more praise. The melodies and the changes between them convey so much emotion and power that I get the feeling that the sound from the speakers is totally priceless. It's a great accomplishment and just so enjoyable. Mar 12, 2023

Sometimes the flow of a song just feels so natural that you know that everything is exactly right. Dissection deserves credit for making sure their music is like this. Some other bands just come up with something and assume it's destiny, but these guys have higher standards than most people. Mar 12, 2023

Nov 4, 2024

Their most representative album of the eighties, full of innovation and class, with forceful themes and a benchmark in style for the hard rock genre, in fact it is their best-selling work to date! My personal precise rating is (94/100) Faves: Criyng In The Rain and Don´t Turn Away! Oct 30, 2024
