It has a very nice sound and some atmosphere too. Some of the compositions get a little stuck in a rut. Balance all that out and it's still a rather good album. Sep 27, 2022

Criticize me if you want, but I'm giving this album such a high score partly because of the amazing pieces of visual art and the story they tell. The music is also super powerful, Actually I started off in a bad mood because I assumed it was Modern Day Babylon type sound. This band is very deathy, even more so than Meshuggah. The vocals are not my cup of tea, but I still found it extremely hard to stop replaying this album. It sounds mysterious and the artwork is so surreal. Sep 26, 2022

A little hard for me to rank. It's funerary mournfulness is lush, but I feel if a similar song is played by Evoken, Evoken's would have more tightness and urgency that just jump right out of from the sound and fill one's chest. Anyway, enjoyable as bloody heck. Sep 25, 2022

When you listen to Summoning and similar bands, did you ever want the black metal element to be more raw, underground, and frantically evil? This album is exactly that. It's definitely a fun combination the way Gusforladt does it. Recommended. Sep 25, 2022

I had this terrible dream where someone told me it's impossible to play very happy & lively melodies in bleak and angry genres of music. Like how when standing you can lift your right foot up, or the left, but both is just not possible. I was all depressed. After waking up I played this album and realized it was just a very bad and totally untrue dream. Now the earth is a magical wonderland..... well at least this album sounds like it is. Sep 25, 2022

Wow wow wow wow. Insane progressive metal, mixed with a death metal that's surprisingly atmospheric, and just a skosh of black metal in the mix. It's a lot of genres, but you can also clearly hear that sometimes they fully step outside of the genres' framework and just play truly original compositions. I find the first 5 songs have the most power, but it's a total class act from start to finish. Unforgettable. Sep 25, 2022

Guitar-wise, it's fuzzy grinding paradise. Sometimes I like burly vocals, but the ones on this album aren't quite my thing. On the other hand, it does a great job of playing very modern metal that also lets you feel those important Sabbath roots. Sep 25, 2022

Great songwriting and genuine passion fill this powerful 1-hour 2-minute album of nature-worshiping melancholy. You'll take a journey through all of autumn and finally welcome winter's chill. Sep 25, 2022

I thoroughly enjoyed this album. I was a little afraid I was going to find it too corny, but I learned it's exactly corny enough. Also, at one point it gets really folky, and at another it sounds just like Pink Floyd. Both of those added to the fun. Sep 24, 2022

Relaxing & bluesy. Also matches well with the space theme. Sep 24, 2022

Fantastically insane and mindwarping rhythms. I think they found the Necromonicon and summoned some squids from another dimension as session musicians. Sep 24, 2022

I was wondering when a metal band would have saxophone throughout the whole album instead of just a solo or 2. Mute Ocean does that apparently, and they do it well too. I got those enjoyable frigid feelings for a whole hour, plus a somewhat trippy feeling from the sax. Nice. Sep 24, 2022

Good, not great. A lot of the lyrics have too many concepts to be evocative. The good compositions start with Track 4, and Track 5 is my favorite. Billy Howerdel doesn't shine until late in the album. It's not as gorgeous as Mer De Noms or 13th Step, but there's still a ton of noice moments. Sep 21, 2022

This reminds me of when their 2007 album came out and I just had to buy it. Clutch's music is still fresh, and these guys must be staying young in the right part of their hearts. Hard rocking with passion. The last song is slow and not up to the level of excellence as the rest of the album, Anyway, thank you Clutch. Sep 20, 2022

My pick of the day. Very Mayhem sounding in all the best ways. The vocalist gets totally piercing sometimes, and the songs are mostly freezing but vigorous at the same time. USA black metal is so often atmospheric, progressive, avant-garde, or post. It's great to hear classic 90s style from new US artists. Also yes, please use Sephiroth's bell everyone; he's been dead for 20 or so years: he doesn't need it. Sep 20, 2022

Very good production and the djent works with the songwriting very well. I think with some lines where Tatiana's vocals are more like talking, they missed a chance team up with one of the other members to give the vocals more variety. Unfortunately their is too much singing at many points. However, the passion is totally high on this. It's hard to decide if it gets an 85 or a 90..... Sep 20, 2022

Based on what I heard on this album, I might become a huge fan of this band a lot sooner than I learn how they actually want us to pronounce their name. Solid throughout with that grim black death sound, and to my ears getting a skosh proggy at times. Really enjoyed it. Sep 20, 2022

Not so great for me. Well played, but the songs don't make a point, and sometimes there's too much singing. I was going to go lower, but tracks 7 to 9 were more satisfying. Sep 20, 2022

Very satisfying mix of heaviness & aggression with the eerie gothic female vocals. Sep 19, 2022

Massive in its melancholy, and it has intelligible lyrics that are effective and actually about something. This artist shows us respect by thinking about what he writes before releasing it. Sep 19, 2022

Their first full-length and it's really good. Sometimes it sounds a bit like jazz. I think they were incorporating a bit of it as they developed their own original style over the next few years. Sep 19, 2022

Nov 4, 2024

Their most representative album of the eighties, full of innovation and class, with forceful themes and a benchmark in style for the hard rock genre, in fact it is their best-selling work to date! My personal precise rating is (94/100) Faves: Criyng In The Rain and Don´t Turn Away! Oct 30, 2024

완벽하다. 지금와서 painkiller 정도의 힘을 기대하는 것은 무리지만 관록과 경험으로 영그러진 놀라운 앨범을 냈다. 엔지니어링도 크게 한몫했다. Oct 31, 2024
