A great powerful album. Less ballad tracks mean more heavy tracks, which account for more points! The heavy and somewhat techincal parts and Russel Allen's magnificent vocals really mix together well. Jul 23, 2015

A crazy well made Blackened Thrash record! I love the guitar tone that ranges from crispy Black Metal to full thrashiness, along with the great vocals. Jul 23, 2015

One of their average works before Jamsie Poo Poo's food poisoning, which I liked because that means less of that annoying fingernails-on-a-chalkboard squealy high vocals. Surprisingly there was less usage of those abominations, so that was good. The title song accounts for 70 points and the cover songs account for 80, so i guessed 75 was a good point to round it up. Seriously the shittiest sound you can come up with. Want a good laugh? Try this one out. Jul 23, 2015

Super high vocals are great when they're poingnant and sharp(King Diamond, Geddy Lee, Geoff Tate, and that guy from 3 inches of blood) as opposed to Labrie-style soft&high vocals which I hate with a passion. And I must say, King Diamond's asinine vocals seem like just the right vocals for this wonderful album about the tale of Abigail. The guitarwork's really cool and pertinent too. Jul 22, 2015

All the juices: officially removed. Queensrÿche had something substantial going on with the album Operation: Mindcrime. The songs were mostly in-your-face heavy, had strong vocals and were overall very powerful. Now, with Empire, it seems like Queensrÿche wanted some money. They've got them dollar bills by appealing to a broader audience, but heaviness lovers like me abhor their decision. Jul 22, 2015

I, uh, don't know. I'm not sure about this album. Kreator kinda made a weird turn and came up with this one with a strange looking mantis as the cover model. So, what makes it so weird? It's just so different from what they had done. It doesn't even feel like a ramification. They've planted a new tree. The songs aren't that bad but are far from Kreator's best. Jul 22, 2015

The last album before their sudden turn of style(which virtually every '80s Thrash band had undergone). And it was amazing! Surely there must be that one weak track, right? Spoiler alert: there isn't! Every song has its own distinctive thrashy values and riffwork and intermittent solos and vocals and lyrics and blahblahblah. One of their best work. Jul 22, 2015

This is freaking good! I can't communicate the joviality of discovering this great record through an album comment, but this sure is a magnificent one. The crunchy drum sounds and deeply thought-out riffage layouts make the album a rare gem. Awesome! Jul 22, 2015

Matt Pike, you da best! This band, High On Fire, straight on kills everyone with their bombardment of crazy good riffs presented in a heavy stoner-doom-sludgy fashion. In short: need some good Stoner? Pick this one up. Jul 22, 2015
Kildneybean 90/100
Wow, this album is eerie. Not the bad kind of eerieness, though, since Buzz Osbourne does a perfect job on stripping Doom and Stoner Metal to their mere structure, without all the ornamental and superfluous bits. Have my explanation satiated your desire for a description? No? Then I guess you'll have to listen it for yourself! Jul 22, 2015

Good ol' Heavy Metal. The real stuff. Blackie Lawless was full blown from the very first album. W.A.S.P.'s music is generally really catchy and full of great riffs and vocal parts. This statement perfectly describes their eponymous first album, too. Jul 22, 2015

This is really your standard '80s Speed Metal stuff. It has everything a decent Speed Metal record needs; pertinent riffs, which go along with persistent drumming and some bass that sometimes unveils itself by tearing through the recticulm of heavy guitars, and nice vocals over that. Jul 22, 2015

Awww yeah, a very solid Mathcore release! Other than the last track which is sort of dull, the album flows like a flooded river, being all psychotic and crazy. Jul 22, 2015
Kildneybean 85/100
Very generic but also fantastic Brutal Death/Slam album. It's basically a regurgitation of what Devourment did for the last decade, but it's nonetheless really good to hear. The songs are all really heavy and does a beating to your skull. Jul 21, 2015
Kildneybean 90/100
Yeah well, Mathcore done by Converge is always full on amazing. Needless to say, No Heroes is just as crushing and full of energy as John Doe or You Fail Me. This is an album worth a lot of listens. Jul 21, 2015
Kildneybean 90/100
This is fking amazing!! The fact that there is an album this good released in 2015 is kinda baffling. So brutal and fun. I liked the creative, sporadic usage of double layered vocals a lot. Jul 21, 2015

I haven't memorized the song order yet, but man this is a superb record. It's just so much fun to listen to, and it has lots of exciting moments where you can't but hearken to the song. Jul 21, 2015

A darn amazing Grindcore record which makes a relentless, crushing 37 min experience. Scott Hull really likes the usage of spoken tracks inbewteen the grindcore tracks. Jul 21, 2015

I love the crispy Black Metal sound that's sometimes even punkish. This phase of Darkthrone is something that I really like. Rust and Striving For A Piece Of Lucifer are really good tracks. Jul 21, 2015
Kildneybean 100/100
The very rudiments of Black Metal were set by three successive albums by Darkthrone, and this marks the last. A more straightforward, raw approach to their music is noticeable. // alright, you know what? I'm re rating this album up 15 points. This shit's amazing. Jul 21, 2015

This album's amazing! To fully feel and enjoy this album you should blank out your mind, sit alone in a quiet place, put this album on and just shut up and listen. Only after you pay full attention can you understand what the album offers you. Jul 21, 2015

This 3 track long EP clocks in at around 28 minutes and without the live Celtic Frost songs around 17 minutes. However, Tom manages to give the listeners a full on view of what Triptykon is going for. Pretty good work. Jul 21, 2015

Kick ass doom stuff. After his departure from Celtic Frost, Tom G. Warrior set up a band whose goal was to continue the style of Monotheist, which was a very successful album. I must say, he did a perfect job on that mission. The music is generally very downtuned and doomy but sometimes excitingly beats on the drum too. Jul 21, 2015

This album presents so many genres under the name Progressive Sludge Metal. Actually, the The Ocean guys do that all the time. So much versatility, so much fun. Jul 20, 2015

Woo-hoo! For Labrie vocal haters like me, this album, which has reduced the usage of Labrie's stupidly high & soft-ass vocals is one of the listenable albums by DT. I don't get how this is "Metal", but still, the album shows pretty decent instumental work. Jul 20, 2015

A Drone Metal masterpiece. There are droning, ridiculously heavy brain numbing tunes atop another atop another, and it's like getting your brain mashed. Amazing. Jul 20, 2015
Kildneybean 85/100
The usage of super high but poignant vocals, along with the traditional metal style song approach is darn amazing. The first few tracks are the killer ones, but the songs may sound a bit same as the album progresses towards its end. Jul 20, 2015
Kildneybean 85/100
Old Death revival done right! It sounds just like Leprosy-era Death. The vocals sound just like Chuck too! Heck, even the album cover kinda has the same feeling. The songs aren't Leprosy tier good, but if you dig thrashy OSDM than you'll definitely enjoy this bad boy. Jul 19, 2015
Kildneybean 90/100
Great work! The cover artwork is very reminisent of Black Sabbath's Master Of Reality. It has two songs; the first one is just your average Electric Wizard song; Jus' vocals over heavy doom music. Then the second song Murder and Madness is kinda, well, unorthodox. The unusual riffs over surprisingly speedy drumming makes it a unique song. Very enjoyable! Jul 19, 2015

Nov 4, 2024

Their most representative album of the eighties, full of innovation and class, with forceful themes and a benchmark in style for the hard rock genre, in fact it is their best-selling work to date! My personal precise rating is (94/100) Faves: Criyng In The Rain and Don´t Turn Away! Oct 30, 2024

완벽하다. 지금와서 painkiller 정도의 힘을 기대하는 것은 무리지만 관록과 경험으로 영그러진 놀라운 앨범을 냈다. 엔지니어링도 크게 한몫했다. Oct 31, 2024
