It's always been hard for me to swallow the music that connotes political messages. In that sense, the HIRS's works (so-called, queer grindcore) have not been easy for me to digest. Their way to propagate their messages is ferocious and relentless in this album. The drum work is insane as well as other instruments that sound raw. But the overall musicianship of this album is too consistent. In other words, too easy to predict, and then monotonous in sound and structure. Apr 11, 2023

Psychedelic prog metal at its finest. This album is the dark and doom version of Kayo Dot. All the songs are well composed, having mesmerising and poetic features. The strong musicianship has been shown in this album too. You can hear sax, horns, harmonica, and other metal instruments all combined together in a fantastic way, making acoustically driven prog rock with metal elements. Overall, it is a brilliant album. There's a proverb, saying "Do not judge something by its cover". It's true on most occasions in real life. If there's an exception, I would say this album. The album cover looks like your 5-year old nephew's drawing. The quality of the music it contains is exactly the same as the quality of the cover. I can't stop laughing about the use of the sax. This album is the antipodean example of using the sax in metal to the White Ward's great approach to flirting with the sax. Apr 11, 2023

The main reason why I have always regarded Ethereal Riffian so highly was the unconventionality with the shamanistic atmosphere the band has always offered. Those unique features have gone missing in this album. Over half of the album is filled up with radio-friendly songs that may help the band sell more records and expand their fan base. That is not bad at all. But fans like me who have high hopes for them will be frustrated by the change in the musicianship in this album. Apr 9, 2023

The first time I heard about the Gabriel Construct, which is a solo project of Gabby Riccio, was from an interview conducted by some media. I couldn't understand this album back then. I've tried listening to it consistently as my knowledge of music grows. But I've always ended up like "I've found the awesomeness of King Crimson here, but I'm not intelligent enough to fully digest his work". I still feel that way. But the final track has always brought me discordant euphoria. Apr 3, 2023

As far as I know, this album was one of the first attempts to combine rock and rap along with Beastie Boys' Licensed to Ill released in 1986. The attempt itself was courageous. I do not like to restrain a musician's musical freedom in a certain genre... But the quality of this one is preposterous. It is a comedy metal. Apr 3, 2023

Typical Scandinavian style melodic metal album. Easy to listen to and has a substantial amount of catchy melodies exuding to the end. No bombastic or eye-poping moments. This album just flows without any noticeable defects. Having said that, there are no great features to be applauded by those who have in-depth knowledge about the music in the same category. But, the melody crafting ability is quite noticeable, showing the potential to get better in the next release. Apr 2, 2023

The movement of thrash metal revivalism has been a bit corny and obsolete nowadays. The successful revivalists like Bonded By Blood, Vektor, Lazarus A.D., Municipal Waste, etc in the 2000s made us reminiscent of the good old days of the legendary bands performing in the art of thrashing. But the rise of this revivalism has been daunted in the past few years. In that sense, this album must be joyful to those who have been thirsty for quality thrash metal music. Apr 1, 2023

I do remember Keep of Kalessin went on the stage as a Eurovision contestant back in 2010. As far back as I remember, their performance reminded me of Dimmu Borgir to a certain extent. It is my first time giving them a listen since then. This new release has some bombastic moments but those are not remarkably good. This album would be quite entertaining for those who love powerful and speedy metal with symphonic elements. Mar 31, 2023

It is a mediocre, and plain-tasting album with nothing special. I would say it is another cookie-cutter metal release of this year. No musical evolution since their debut. No good things to remark on... But nothing really bad to mention at the same time. It sounds like they repeat playing the same musical patterns since their debut. It is just a normal release to me. It was one of the most anticipated releases of 2023 to me because Entropia surpassed their previous efforts each time they released a new album. I just finished listening to the entire album, and a bit disappointed. Don't get me wrong. This album deserves to be considered a good record but it sounds more conventional and creativity is somewhat lacking compared to their previous effort. Mar 31, 2023

The tailored-made prog album constructed by the followers of Rush. I've never imagined that a german band could be able to create such a fanciful and beautiful melodic prog. The riffs and melodies on each track have been beautifully crafted. The fans who prefer faster, more brutal and more powerful prog may not appreciate this band's effort. But the fans who are fond of softer, more melodic and more inventive structures of prog will undoubtedly appreciate this album. Mar 31, 2023

It is a great soothing neo-folk album applauded by many as one of the greatest debut albums. There are some musical similarities between this album and Ulver’s Kveldssanger released in 1996. I think this one is the evolved version of Kveldssanger because the depth of musical expression is deeper. A feeling of solitude is well presented and articulated in a very soothing way. This album is kind of healing music to me. Mar 31, 2023

A well-made prog-metal album. Musically speaking, this release is the continuation or somewhat extended form of Sieges Even's "The Art of Navigating by the Stars". Rush's influence prevails in this album, but not as much as The Art of Navigating by the Stars and there is no musical evolution from that album. Overall, it's an easy-listening album with tons of beautiful catchy melodies. Mar 31, 2023

A unique-sounding album that reminds me of Blut Aus Nord to a certain extent. Definitely not an easy-to-grasp album due to the experimental elements. It kicks off the intriguing tones with complicated musical structures, showing the attractiveness of atmospheric post-hardcore with an avant-garde approach. But it failed to keep its power till the ending track. It means that this band is not competent enough to turn the various experimental elements into a well-organised form. Mar 30, 2023

This album is special and monumental in black metal history because it was one of the first albums that pushed black metal in this hybrid direction combining avant-garde, prog and folk elements. The people who stick to the purest form of black metal might not like this album. But, to me, this release sounds evolutionary. Especially the second track, En Skikkelse I Horisonten, and the fourth track, Englers Piler Har Ingen Brodd, are the beauties. Mar 29, 2023

This one is a prime example of extreme harmonisation between a symphony orchestra and a metal band. Unlike some metal bands who adopted symphonic elements as senseless background, Haggard have done an impeccable job to display the musical heterogeneity. Like Galileo Galilei said "Eppur Si Muove", this album sounds like trying hard to prove that the symphonic elements and metal are not disparate from each other as pessimists keep insisting that they are not harmonious. This album is really a techy prog-death metal album with an avant-garde approach. It kicks off the guitar tones that seem to reminisce about the good old days of Virus and Ved Buens Ende. Then, this album dives deep into the melting pot of various musical ideas with jazz, breakcore, djent and prog-metal. Also, the title track trilogy is the eye-catching factor in this album. Those title tracks articulate the overall atmosphere and main musical identity of this album. Mar 28, 2023

This album is undeniable proof of the downward spiral of the fear factory's musicianship and musicality. Mar 28, 2023

Overall, it's a very tasty album pinpointing the attractiveness of progressive metal combined with metalcore. If the Protest the Hero's metalcore classic, Kezia, suits your taste, you would fall in love with this album without any musical vexation. You will be bittersweetly engulfed by melancholic sentiments through the catchy and lyrical melodies created by the fabulous musicianship of Hypno5e. Mar 28, 2023

This release was considered a "pinnacle" of experimental metal to me back in 2020. I was exhilarated by the immersive sounds of this album gradually encroaching on my sense of hearing. This album is an exhibition of musical unconventionality supplementing the disappointment I had on the Ethereal Riffian's later release. Mar 28, 2023
Metal Addiction 90/100
This album is the continuing endeavour of their first Demo, Those who Caress the Pale. This one is a great tapestry of varied musical elements that you might wish to look for from an avant-garde metal band. The eerie-sounding tone of the guitar and the unconventional bass patterns make this album special to me. Mar 28, 2023

It would be a laborious task to find a debut album with this kind of quality. If you like progressive metal with a sophisticated touch of jazzy elements, this album is a "must-have" one. It is full of heavenly and eye-popping musical moments from the beginning to the end with an exhilarating avant-garde spirit. Mar 27, 2023

Morbid Angel have always been considered a "one-hit wonder" to me. I have never been impressed by them since their debut release. So, let me be sarcastic here. This album is the apex of experimental metal. Mar 26, 2023

This album is an outburst of technicality and creativity. More importantly, it shows the "eclectic" musical diversity that a prog-based metal band can offer. Some metal albums also adopt and display varied and different styles of music to show off their ingenious musicality, but it is not easy to find a successfully-integrated one. That's why "eclectic" musical diversity is a tough task to achieve. In that sense, this album is an inspirational record. Mar 26, 2023

Bestial sex??? They even recorded this album bestially. I have never fancied uttering profanities.... but this album deserves to be added to the Oxford English dictionary as the definition of "horrible album". Mar 26, 2023
Metal Addiction 90/100
One of the most innovative bands in black metal. I love the White Ward's musical approach to flirting with the sax. Compared to its predecessor, this album focuses on developing the less extreme side, which means it sounds more fluid to my ears. White Ward have pushed the envelope to evolve in each release. This album is another giant leap in a powerful trajectory. Mar 25, 2023

I do not like classifying genres of metal. What I want to say is simple: good music is good music. But if a band is a representative figure in a certain genre or has too much expectation from fans, it would be totally a different story which means my premises would be empty words. Celtic Frost have "To Mega Therion" prior to this release. The "hair metal-like" style of music in this album cannot be acceptable to their fans. This album is blasphemy to their earlier works.

Nov 4, 2024

Their most representative album of the eighties, full of innovation and class, with forceful themes and a benchmark in style for the hard rock genre, in fact it is their best-selling work to date! My personal precise rating is (94/100) Faves: Criyng In The Rain and Don´t Turn Away! Oct 30, 2024
