Album of the day #6. Pantera - Cowboys From Hell
Despite the fact that Pantera had already released 4 full-length albums before "Cowboys From Hell", this can be considered the beginning of the Pantera we know. By combining trash metal with more groove and heaviness, the band invented a whole new genre, groove metal.
The song material is completely strong, there are no pure failures. The level drops a bit in the second half of the album, but e.g. "The Sleep" is one of the band's most underrated songs. Every musician is also in the mood of their lives, from Rex and Vinnie's swinging rhythm group, Dimebag's unimaginably great guitar playing and Phil's almost Rob Halford-like vocals. Everything shines, and when the production is also at a top level, it is one of the best works of its genre. Listen, you won't be disappointed.
Climax: Cemetery Gates, Domination, Cowboys From Hell, The Sleep
Anticlimax: Medicine Man (Still a decent song)

Read More

Read More

The legendary Vulgar Display of Power. The TRUE original tough guy metal album, and the bottom line set for all of Groove Metal. Does it live up to the hype? Well, yes and no.
Vulgar Display of Power is actually one of the first metal albums I’d heard, thanks directly to three of its songs inspiring music in Doom. Back then, Phil’s harsh vocals bulging with testosterone ... Read More

Cowboys From Hell부터 The Great Southern Trendkill앨범까지 골고루 선곡되어 베스트 음반격으로도 봐주면 되겠다. Read More

Another one of the biggest shocks of the 90’s. Sleaze metal losers Pantera decide to reinvent themselves as some sort of cowboy metal saviors, become about 3 times as heavy and start cranking out sludgy mid-tempo riffs as if they’d been doing it all along. The drumming, despite being the same guy as always, takes on a much different flavor here, making way more use of doubl... Read More
