초기 Black Metal씬에서 강력한 영향력을 행사한 밴드 중 하나인 Immortal의 역사적인 데뷔 앨범. 이 장르, Raw Black Metal씬에서 언제나 Mayhem 혹은 Darkthrone이 항상 선구자라는 타이틀을 가져갔지만, Immortal 역시 그에 뒤지지 않는 능력과 영향력을 지닌 밴드다. 사악함을 표현하는데 있어 Immortal의 Abbath는 Mayhem의 Euronymous 못지 않은 능력을 지니고 있다. Immortal의 데뷔 앨범 Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism을 들어보면 밴드를 주도했던 Abbath가 얼마나 뛰어난 능력을 지녔는지 한눈에 알 수 있다. 돈 들인 티가 별로 안나는 레코딩은 앨범의 음산함을 한껏 고조시키는 역할을 수행하고 있으며, 기타톤 역시 극도로 음침하여 이 앨범의 전체적인 분위기를 오싹하게 하는데 크게 일조하고 있다. 앨범에서는 특이하게도 어쿠스틱 기타 연주가 간간이 들어가 있는데 이 역시도 앨범의 사악한 사운드를 기묘하게 증대시킨다. 그러나 앨범에서 역시 가장 중요한 역할을 수행하는 것은 Abbath의 사악한 주문외우는 듯한 불경한 목소리다. 그의 섬뜩한 그로울링 톤은 이 앨범의 중심부에 서서 밴드의 사악한 행위를 정교하게 지휘하고 있다. Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism 은 Immortal을 노르웨이안 블랙 메탈의 핵심 밴드로 자리잡게 하였으며, 이들의 음악을 좋아하고 지지하는 팬층도 만들어냈다. 이들을 좋아하는 팬들은 아마도 세상에서 가장 사악한 음악을 사랑하는 사람들일 것이다.

훌륭한 블랙메틀 앨범.
6곡 하나하나가 포스를 지니고 있음.
변화무쌍하고 빠른 곡전개가 앨범의 주를 이루고 있으며, 빠르게 진행되다가도 순간 조용하게 잠잠하게 있는 등 재미있는 구조로 되어있다. 곡 하나하나가 꽤나 길지만 이런 리프의 변화에 집중하여 듣고있으면 8분이고 6분... Read More

Wow! I know I’m in a crazy minority here, but I actually thought “Blizzard Beasts” was going to end up my favorite Immortal album. The way Immortal integrated twisted Death Metal riffs and more varied drumming into their wintry 2nd wave Black Metal formula worked very well for me. I was expecting a return to regular Black Metal with this album.
