Salisbury is Uriah Heep's second studio album released by Vertigo Records. Contains the group's huge hit "Lady in Black". Front cover of the album was made in two versions: first depicted a British Chieftain tank and second - American release featured a man tearing out of his own skin. Songwriting credits for fully half of the record were attributed to Ken Hensley alone, as opposed to the debut's collaborative partnership of frontman David Byron and guitarist Mick Box. Feb 16, 2023

"Outsider" is the 23rd studio album by Uriah Heep (I don't count the album "Celebration - Forty Years of Rock", which contains mainly modified versions of old hits), released by Frontiers Records. It was produced by Mike Paxman and it is the first album with bassist Dave Rimmer. Guitarist Mick Box is the last remaining member of the original line-up and the songs here are though harder-edged than in the band’s heyday, but have that familiar dynamic guitar/organ interplay. "Fallen Angel" is Uriah Heep's 12th studio album released by Bronze Records in the UK and Chrysalis Records in USA. On this album, the band moved toward an AOR sound, as opposed to the Progressive Rock of previous albums. It is the last album to feature John Lawton on vocals, before his firing in 1979. After releasing 2 demo recordings in the early 1980s, "A Time of Changes" was Blitzkrieg's first full-length studio album and what a solid NWOBHM it was. If this album was put together back in 1981 as it was to be, this could have been one of the most memorable NWOBHM album of all time. Unfortunately, the band broke up shortly before releasing their debut and Ross had to wait 3 years to put everything back together. Also for this reason they never captured higher popularity. When we start speaking of early NWOBHM, Raven is a group we should mention. Yes, they didn't achieve fame like Iron Maiden and were more Hard Rock oriented besides Heavy Metal, but their early 80's albums were good. If the NWOBHM is your favorite musical style, you should immediately get this album. Feb 12, 2023

"Death and Progress" is Diamond Head's comeback album after a long ten-year hiatus. The music combines Hard Rock with Heavy Metal, and the album needs to be listened to at least five times in order to appreciate the quality of the songs and ideas. Feb 12, 2023

Diamond Head released "Borrowed Time" album with a more refined sound, better production and songs more in the 80's metal, than the dynamic NWOBHM of the first album. We have here five new songs and two re-recorded, that were originally on "Lightning to the Nations" album. The songs are very mellodic, still catchy and energetic. Feb 12, 2023

"Lightning to the Nations" is easily one of the best albums of the NWOBHM. All seven songs here are equally awesome and every song has an identity. These really are some awesome catchy kick ass songs with great melodies and riffs, whereas there is never a dull moment. The music on this album sometimes reminiscent Hard Rock bands with some blues parts, but it also managed to keep up with the changing sound of Heavy Metal genre. Feb 12, 2023

Candlemass are back with their 13th regular studio album "Sweet Evil Sun" which offeres traditional Epic Doom Metal. The guitars are heavy, dark and the rhythms solid as ever. Songs are catchier and simpler structured and the musicianship is competent with some hammering riffs and much aggression in it. Feb 11, 2023

Misanthrope's music has been out of my reach for many years and only today I listened to their new album "Les declinistes". Musically, it's pretty decent Progressive Death Metal, but I don't understand the lyrics at all because they're in the band's native language, which is French. Feb 11, 2023

"Permanent Vacation" becoming a major hit and the band's bestselling album in over a decade (selling 5 million copies in the US) and was their first album to employ songwriters outside the band, instead of featuring songs solely composed by them. It is the ninth studio album and was released by Geffen Records. Feb 10, 2023

This album is way too low rated and quite underrated. "Just Push Play" is the thirteenth studio and was co-produced by song collaborators Marti Frederiksen and Mark Hudson. The album's first single, "Jaded", became a Top 10 hit in the US and around the world. Feb 10, 2023

Rejuvenated Finns have created with "Eternal" something truly special with powerful, dramatic, theatrical and epic elements. Some bands age like a fine wine - maturing and refining their sound with every subsequent release. Feb 8, 2023

After the split with the main songwriter and great guitarist Timo Tolkki, the band was going through quite hard times including many line-up changes and had to face several problems. Band moved away from its softer and more progressive sounds and created an energizing and truly metal orientated record with gripping riffs, glorious choruses and loads of fresh ideas. Feb 8, 2023

Stratovarius has taken their sound in a different direction in this album, favoring the more epic style sound over the faster tracks. Most of the album is slower or mid-tempo and more epic, including the powerful title track with a quasi operatic chorus line. It is albums like "Infinite" that remind us that not all Power Metal has to sound the same. Feb 8, 2023

"Destiny" album really have everything, infectious energy, delicate ballads, great ideas and the skills to pull them off. They combines the traditional Speed/Power Metal elements, the Neo-classical shredding and the Epic Progressive tendencies of the band into a coherent and enjoyable whole. Feb 8, 2023

On "Hammerheart" album, Quorthon is now more interested in creating and communicating a certain epic and atmospheric feeling, and doesn't attempt to reach supersonic speeds with his guitar. Album shows the Epic side of Viking/Heavy Metal with acoustic parts, female voices, sporadically used keyboards, clean vocals with raspy touch, intelligence and emotional integrity. Feb 5, 2023

The quality of "Live in Jessheim" is garbage , commonplace in this album is crackling, distortion, and cutting out. Maybe you enjoy hearing poor quality live same songs for the sixth time? Then this album is just for you. This album is fodder for the obsessive Mayhem militant. Clink, clink, money is pouring in... Feb 5, 2023

If you would want to compare this release with other live ones, this has almost nothing new to offer. The sound is horrendous, there's too much of a mess for much of an atmosphere, and it really just sucks. The endless release of bootlegs with terrible quality is only important in filling the publishers' wallets and not in presenting quality and valuable music. Do you need a fifth album of Dead "singing" the same songs? Feb 5, 2023

Another awful recording. Most die hard Mayhem fans know this was one of only 5 shows Mayhem managed to play live during this tour (Jessheim, Sarpsborg, Zeitz, Leipzig and Izmir). Maybe next year, when someone finds a moldy recording from another concert in the attic, the band will release another of the endless series of low-quality, but for some, kvlt live recordings. Take a lot of scandals, unusual stories and mysterious/dark happenings, mix it all up, throw it in newspapers and magazines, repeat it many times and you turn a mediocre record into a legendary one. "Live In Leipzig" is primarily worshiped due to being the only full-length recording featuring Dead. It is a mediocre album, that has been elevated to "classic" status in some circles, but not due to quality ideas or creativity. Feb 5, 2023

Very overrated 18 minute failure. A number of better and more important albums were released at that time and even before it. The production is completely awful. "Deathcrush" is praised only for it's extreme nature at an early time, rather then the actual quality of the music. Feb 5, 2023

"V: The New Mythology Suite" continues the consistent trend for this band, as they have successfully crafted a tremendous Prog. Metal album that is equal in both songwriting and musicianship. Russell Allen is an awesome vocalist, with incredible range, emotion, and a smooth, flawless, melodious vocal tone. Every song on this album is strong, even the occasional instrumental interludes on this album. Feb 4, 2023

On "The Damnation Game" album, Russel Allen picked up the microphone and proved, that he is a Progressive/Neoclassical Metal force to be reckoned with. His soaring voice helps this album same as Romeo's insane riffs, and Pinnella's keys. You can find here many speed changes, creative solos, impressive drumming, great bass and songs also have that catchy element. It's an excellent album. Feb 4, 2023

Symphony X's first album seems to be a very underrated album and album not talked about much, whereas all the ingredients are present. Progressive and Neo-classical Metal elements are as present on this release as on any other Symphony X album. One important thing to note is that this is the only Symphony X album without Russell Allen, since vocals are handled by Rod Tyler whose performance is solid, but not as good as that of Russell. Music on "Diversum" is slow, melancholic, almost mysterious. Songs are much more epic, comprehensible & dramatic than on the previous albums. The guitar work is much more focused on some classic metal riffs. In all the songs, the emotional and melodic sequence is based not on the riffs changing, but on the change of vocal parts. Although there is only one vocalist we hear three voices: two of them are clean, and the third one is harsh, almost black metal-like. Feb 3, 2023

Nov 4, 2024

Their most representative album of the eighties, full of innovation and class, with forceful themes and a benchmark in style for the hard rock genre, in fact it is their best-selling work to date! My personal precise rating is (94/100) Faves: Criyng In The Rain and Don´t Turn Away! Oct 30, 2024
