Living up to the reputation of the Metal God is not an easy job to do. I was the one who strongly condemned Rob's decision to leave Priest for his solo career. This album might be a disappointment if you expected something similar to Painkiller. I was hugely frustrated with this album after the first listen. But when I gave it a listen again after years, the good things about this album stood out rather than the bad things spotted during my first listen a long time ago. Jun 8, 2023

This album is dominated by a soft pedestrian atmosphere which may indicate the new style of the band's sound. Unfortunately, the attempt to create a new musical style was not successful in my opinion. Jun 3, 2023

It is a jazzy avant-garde metal album with exceptional quality. The concept of the album is a reflection of mental health, neurodiversity and complicated social structures in the world we live in. It is not an 'easy to grasp' release because it is full of experimental elements that encompass everything from grindcore, death metal, doom, jazz, and even some progressive rock, ensuring that listeners are in for a wild and challenging experience. This album plays well-defined old-school heavy metal. This album seems to have cited Mercyful Fate and King Diamond as the primary musical source to compose all the songs. For those who love that kind of heavy metal, this release would be a musical joy. May 28, 2023

This album portrays a perfect musical concoction of industrial and black metal. The avant-garde style additive to this concoction makes this album sound splendid and superior to those in the same category. Atmosphere-wise, this album evokes Devil Doll's Eliogabalus or Samael's Blood Ritual. To me, this album is a hallucinating portrayal of musical pandemonium. May 27, 2023

Who could imagine the Teutonic thrash metal legend, Kreator, would play gothic metal in their career? They did it in an unhonourable way. I respect the band's unrelenting musical spirit for experimentalism. Unfortunately, their musical experiment in this album was a total failure. May 23, 2023

It is hard to find the albums that can beat this album in crappiness. May 23, 2023

It is a terrific avant-garde metal album. There are no visible defects from the beginning to the end. This album, in general, has structural similarities to the avant-garde masterpiece, Written in Waters by Ved Buens Ende. It means that each track has its own distinct musical character conjuring a forlorn atmosphere out of bizarre vocals with the jarring guitar works. Overall, it is a stellar piece of avant-garde euphoria. May 23, 2023

I have never been a fan of live albums due to their lack of capability to demonstrate the music in the way that musicians would like their fans to listen to in terms of mixing and mastering quality. The noise of audiences and the misalignment of instrumentation while performing live have always detracted me from the fine listening experience. This album is not bad at all. It is just a normal live album. But I would rather listen to the originals than this album. May 22, 2023

Hasard is a spin-off project of 'Les Chants du Hasard'. But the byproduct shows better quality of music than the main project in my opinion. This album, overall, reminds me of the cavernous brutal insanity of Blut Aus Nord. The influence of Deathspell Omega has also been spotted as this album displays the hellish atmosphere in front. In short, it is a good dissonant black metal release. May 22, 2023

Amorphis is such a band applauded by many for their meticulous musicality. They have successfully offered master-class equivalent music numerous times throughout their career. I think this album is the only blot in their almost immaculate career. This album is not all-around horrible but does not have any moments that be reminiscent of the musical greatness that Amorphis have shown in the past. May 21, 2023
Metal Addiction 90/100
This album is a bizarre convolution of black metal and avant-garde metal which transcend the expectations that those who love black metal might have. The quirky sense of sophisticated instrumentation offers pulsating riffs and catchy melodies on every single track. The inconsistency of musical structure is the most stood-out characteristic to me, which makes this release sound varied in a well-refined musical manner. May 20, 2023
Metal Addiction 55/100
This album seems to suffer from simply being a mix of dull and appallingly awkward. Most of the songs aren’t particularly aggressive and fail to make listeners feel the attractiveness of thrash metal. Those songs heavily rely on monotonous simple grooves to carry the guitar rhythm despite their lack of crunch. This album is undoubtedly a disappointing release overall. May 19, 2023

I had fun listening to this female-fronted speedy metal with vocals that sound like a mumbling cat.... I hope this album is not meant to be serious. May 19, 2023
Metal Addiction 65/100
This album fails to establish its own originality. All the tracks sound appallingly similar to the other bands in the same category. It would be pointless to evaluate this album track by track due to the replicative nature of the musical structure. This album doesn't have poor quality at all. It's full of catchy melodies. But, it seems like the band tries their best to authenticate their musicality as a metalcore band through this album due to the lack of musical originality. May 19, 2023

I do not think Alconaut have a good sense of naming their tracks. Even though some tracks of this album are named 'Ascending', the overall quality of this album has 'descended' from their previous effort. The groovy and fuzzy riffs with intermittent shouted vocals sound pretty good on some tracks and make this album look like a sumptuous proggy stoner metal. Especially the trilogy of the songs, 'Ascending' is quite awesome. But overall, it falls short of my anticipation. May 18, 2023
Metal Addiction 85/100
This album sounds unorthodox and heterodox because it successfully blends thrash, death, and progressive metal elements and turns them into a harmonious musical form. You can easily find how this band unfolds their musical story with the aforementioned different elements in the first two tracks, which may sound a bit monotonous in structure. But it creates the continuation of a grim, dark, and unpleasant atmosphere which adds uniqueness to this album. May 18, 2023

It is not an easy job to find a successful musical synthesis between Jazz and metal, because they are disparate from each other. Unfortunately, the way that Cypherium tried to flirt with jazz based on metal is not successful in this album. So, you might be disappointed in this release if you expect good metal with jazzy elements like 'Exivious' or 'The Painter's Palette'. May 16, 2023

Please stop thinking about the black metal past of the Ulver's career. The album itself is a great moody and atmospheric electronica with distinct story-telling vibes. I was so pleased to witness the Ulver's capability to weave a tale of sinister film noir escapades into their music out of the black metal category. The harmonies between the noirish synth sound and the down-tempo beats craft the gloomy and down-in-the-mouth atmosphere. May 12, 2023

It's a brilliant experimental opus with utterly complicated, and chaotic musical structures. Those who love complexity, craziness and forward-thinking notions of experimentalism would appreciate the efforts of the band. All the tracks sound astonishing in every sense, but the most noticeable characteristic is the non-repetitive musical pattern. With the densely structured chaotic sounds, the theatrically structured sombre melodies strengthen the overall quality of this album. May 12, 2023
Metal Addiction 95/100
The musical evolution in this album is colossal. By far this album is superior to their previous works which sound meaninglessly repetitive with a lack of idea about how to orchestrate noise and dark ambience into an organised musical form. The proficient use of post-metal style guitar tones and arrangements in this album is just phenomenal, which perfectly crafted the harrowing atmosphere of this album. It is a shame that this band split up after releasing this awesome work. May 12, 2023

It is a stellar piece of musical integration in Anamnesi's career. In the three previous works prior to this album, Anamnesi put more musical weight on the side of crafting a unique ambience. But, in this album, Anamnesi changed his musical path, heading towards an all-in-one style of black metal which Anamnesi calls 'solar metal'. This album is full of vivid portrayals of a ritualistic act of worshipping solar. Overall, It is a brilliant work with 'solar' spirituality. May 11, 2023

You would be chuffed with the shitload of fun offered by this release. Pryapisme are at the peak of their power. Their eccentric songwriting skills are fully bloomed and supported by brilliant instrumentation. All tracks sound phenomenal. Especially, track 4, 6 and 10 are the essence of avant-garde metal with the eerie sound of the electronic beats and Jazzy grooves. The omnipresent keyboard work and programming make the sound of this album more abundant and varied. May 9, 2023

It would be viewed as extremely nitpicky if I look for something to complain about the quality of this album. It is the beginning of the glorious trio in Akercocke's career. The rest of the trio is, of course, Words That Go Unspoken, Deeds That Go Undone and Antichrist. The gruff vocals and distorted guitar works make every single track sound mysterious. Especially the muddy guitar tone with incredible heaviness helps craft the unorthodox and unique atmosphere of this album. May 8, 2023

Fabulous doom metal album as beautiful as its album cover. The acoustic passages and desperate/melancholic storylines are stunning in this album, making this release distinct and special compared to the other releases in the same category. This album is the best at demonstrating lachrymose, disheartened, and doleful emotions in the most beautiful way. May 7, 2023

It is a tough task to live up to the fans' high expectations if a band released a masterpiece before and is on the verge of releasing a successor. Akercocke successfully responded to those immense expectations in this album. Like its predecessor, it triumphs where many other black and death metal albums usually fail: musical experimentation. The instrumentation to execute the structural experimentation in this album is amazing by combining progressive composition techniques. May 6, 2023

It is a bit weird to see that Season of Mist has released an album which is not associated with extreme metal. So I had a stereotype against this album before I gave it a listen. But, I was wrong. It is a tasty album with musical references to Vola and Caligula's Horse. Each track is distinct from one another using different tones, which is the strong point of this release compared to other albums categorised in Djent. But somewhat overly emotional to my taste in some tracks. May 6, 2023

This release is one of my all-time favourite blackened doom metal albums. Dolorian's first effort was blackened doom euphoria and their second effort was a sophisticated doom instrumentation at its finest form. Voidwards is the perfect mixture of those two previous works, establishing their originality in both sound and structure. I feel like I take a long meditative journey to the internal place where I can ease my subconscious desires for the utmost gloominess. May 6, 2023

Nov 4, 2024

Their most representative album of the eighties, full of innovation and class, with forceful themes and a benchmark in style for the hard rock genre, in fact it is their best-selling work to date! My personal precise rating is (94/100) Faves: Criyng In The Rain and Don´t Turn Away! Oct 30, 2024

완벽하다. 지금와서 painkiller 정도의 힘을 기대하는 것은 무리지만 관록과 경험으로 영그러진 놀라운 앨범을 냈다. 엔지니어링도 크게 한몫했다. Oct 31, 2024
