데뷔작 "Appetite for Destruction"의 폭발적인 인기의 여세를 몰아 클럽시절의 라이브 4곡과 어쿠스틱 버전 4곡이 담긴 "GN'R Lies"를 1988년에 발표하여 빌보드 앨범차트 2위에 랭크시켰다. 드러머 Steven Adler가 약물 문제로 팀에서 이탈하였으며, Cult 출신의 드러머 Matt Sorum와 키보디스트 Dizzy Reed가 가세한 6인조 라인업으로 대작 "Use Your Illusion"을 내놓게 된다. l, ll 각각 더블앨범의 거대한 규모에서부터 화제가 되었던 앨범으로, 동시에 빌보드 앨범차트 1, 2위로 데뷔하는 진풍경을 연출하기도 하였다. l 과 크게 다르지 않은 음악을 들려주고 있는데, 복고 성향, 컨트리, 펑크 등의 느낌이 가미된 한층 다채로운 모습을 보여준다.

My most played album #375. Guns And Roses - Use Your Illusion 1. 7 times platinum, released on the same day as Use Your Illusion 2. The band only released 2 albums up to this point then released 2 albums in one day both double length. (the equivalent of 4 albums).
