Precious Death Metal Masterpiece Of New York!!
내게 Malevolent Creation 을 만난 건 기가 막힌 천운이다. 특히 본작 The Ten Commandments 를 만난건 더할나위 없는 행운이다. 내가 지향하는 Death Metal 의 방향성과 일치하고 또한 Death Metal 名 프로듀서 Scott Burns 의 Production 으로 너무나 훌륭한 사운드와 함께 Death Metal 을 들려주고 있기 때문이다.
흔히 Florida Death Metal Scene 을 第一 Death Metal 사조라고 칭하고 있다. Malevolent Creation 또한 그 사조의 한 축으로 Death, Deicide, Morbid Angel 등과 함께 사조 형성에 영향력을 행사하였다. 하지만 Malevolent Creation 은 Origin 이 New York의 Buffalo 이기 때문에 완전한 Florida Death Metal 이라 칭하기는 애매한 감이 있다. 그 때문에 New York Death Metal 의 자랑이라 칭하여도 무방하다.
Malevolent Creation 은 컨셉 지향성이기 보다는 곡 간 Identity 가 뚜렸하나 유기성이 돋보인다. Blast Beat 만 주로하는 여타의 Extreme Scene 보다는 Drum 이 음악을 이끌거나 리프를 제시하는 등 본작의 음악은 세션간 매우 Balance 가 잘 잡혀있다.
Metal 을 제대로 듣고 싶다면 Album 단위도 듣는 걸 추천하면서 壬辰年 첫 리뷰를 마친다.
