One great album every year 3 times in a row. I've been looking forward to this release since I noticed a track on BMP long ago. This mysterious artist has great style, and this might be the best of the 3 album covers. Tracks 3 & 4 were the best ones for me, but of course I loved it all. Dec 17, 2024

The issue of Icelandic orthography was the most difficult thing to deal with when learning about this band, because the gorgeous music they create is an enormous pleasure to listen to. This blackened death metal record is great for playing over and over again. The Úlfúð members deserve a great deal of respect. My pick of the day. Dec 16, 2024

This was one of the brightest spots from my trancecore Friday. It does lean a bit more toward the classic metalcore sound, and the result is very pleasing. Even though metalcore is one of my least favorite styles, if it's done this well I'll still enjoy it. Dec 16, 2024

I find it sad that some of the guitar melodies and beats work all right, but the vocal melodies are all annoying. A bit painful for me to listen to. Some people just need to realize that writing vocals isn't just throwing a ton of words in whatever random tone you come up with first. Dec 16, 2024

Trancecore seems t be infected with bad vocals, but We Came as Romans avoid that chasm very well with Darkbloom. The clean vocals are well done and refreshingly straight-forward in style. The songs have some real passion and the recording is very good. Overall, pretty good album. Dec 16, 2024

Track 6 is pretty good, but the rest of the album is not, especially with those clean vocals - they're just too weak and whiny. Dec 16, 2024

A lot of this album is acceptable, but those awful autotune sounds just transform it into garbage. Maybe some people feel that autotune is a sign of the times, and they want to feel current, but I'm sure hindsight will judge this type of vocals very harshly. It's a shame, because the hyperactive futuristic soundscape is somewhat nice at times, but not good enough to make it recommendable. Dec 16, 2024

Pretty solid release to start their career with. I don't quite find the signature Epica sound on this one, but that took some years to create. Dec 16, 2024

So I've been giving trancecore a try recently. It turns out to be a sad & junky sub-genre. This Thotcrime album is mostly trancecore, and it turns out to be some of the best I've heard so far from this style. Good job, Thotcrime. Dec 16, 2024

Good underground album by a band that quickly advanced to the top tier of metal. Dec 16, 2024

I really love A Bleaker Sun, and Not Nothing is nicely reminiscent of Mikael's work with Cemetery Skyline. Dec 16, 2024

So it's all covers, and they're all slowed down and made kind of freaky. It works out well with everything except Eleanor Rigby, which is so-so. Dec 16, 2024

There's a bunch of really nice moments, but I find the album as a whole memorable for the wrong reason: the many flaws just keep popping into my head. With so many singers on one track, did we really need 2 recordings of Elyze singing different parts at the same time? A tiny bit of critical thinking combined with common sense could fix all these problems. Dec 16, 2024

Very dramatic melodies on this excellent album. The medieval flare and swordplay sound effects at the end sound exactly like an 'I love you' to Caladan Brood - a fully understandable sentiment. Dec 16, 2024

Of course this is a ton to listen to at once. The black metal is all excellent, and track 13 is a massive epic piece that I really loved, and I think you'll understand that I wasn't expecting much from the ambient tracks. Anyway, I'm glad I've kept Nahtrunar on my radar. Dec 16, 2024

I find track 7 and a few other pretty weak or flawed, but there are enough moments where everything is working just fine, and I remember why trance metal can be so refreshing. Dec 11, 2024

I was really spellbound by this EP, but yeah their full-length is even better. Dec 11, 2024

Great thrash with harsh vocals. Thanks again to Blayne at Banger TV for the recommendations. Dec 11, 2024

I caught up with November's Blaynecore today, and this one was the best listen. I wonder if the feeling I get from this album activates the same brain cells that the smell would if I opened up a 400-year-old coffin. The whole thing is so dank, and track 3 is even better than the rest. You don't want to miss this one, for real. Dec 11, 2024

Pretty solid speed metal. Good first length from Inverted Cross. Dec 11, 2024

Every song starts with fantastic sound with tons of atmosphere, but unfortunately the compositions seem not to make any point. I felt like I was hearing a sampler. I'll say this material has the potential to be worked into a top-tier album. Tons of potential here. Dec 11, 2024

Awesome debut. It's easy to hear how Mare Cognitum ws becoming one of the best atmospheric BM artists. Dec 11, 2024

With these one-man-bands, it's easy for me to doubt myself: I start thinking the artist can't be as good as I remember, but now I listen to this ambitious album and discover I was right all along. Some nice heavy metal influence, probably jazz too. There's a good amount of variety juxtaposing the BM. The clarinet & saxophone parts add a great deal as well. Dec 11, 2024

I started feeling like this recording is more of a reenactment of music heard in the past, not a musical performance. A narrative frame aided by the field recordings & other sounds. Dec 11, 2024

Cool EP by Primus. Still coming up with musical ideas. Dec 11, 2024

Not as many great songs as Pork Soda, but Glass Sandwich was a fantastic & creepy surprise. Of course track 3 is a masterpiece. Dec 11, 2024

Pretty average album overall. A lot of the lyrics are so immature, but there are some enjoyable parts to the music. Dec 11, 2024

The quality goes up and down during the album, but still a very refreshing and very Devy record to listen to. Dec 9, 2024

Good hardcore punk with a bit of heaviness and positive moods and melodies a bit like pop punk to balance it out. Dec 9, 2024

Mar 30, 2025

I'm pretty sure this is the best debut in history. Sonata Arctica immediately does what they do best and the result is amazing. "FullMoon" is a great song. Mar 11, 2025

Great album but not at the level of the debut in my opinion. The band tries a bit of progressive direction with pretty good results, although some songs are quite weak. The end of the album is great. Good job Sonata! Mar 11, 2025

DT caught my attention with their previous album and this one confirms my thoughts on them. I´m not so fond of their old stuffs but these 2 keep me on my feet and I will go back to them regularly. Mar 12, 2025

4 days ago

Like "Silence", only 1000 times better. The band's absolute best album. Not all the songs are masterpieces, but the best ones are incredible and the atmosphere of the album is epic. Mar 11, 2025

그 나이에 이게 데뷔앨범 이라는게 믿기지 않는다...다만 이때 모든 힘을 쏟은 것일까...ㅠ Mar 12, 2025

Probably Judas Priest's most commercially successful album, and it's extremely good. The song material is brilliant, and if we forget the existence of "Pain And Pleasure" and "Fever", it's perfect. The "Hellion/Electric Eye" duo is still one of the greatest opening tracks in metal history. The production is tuned to exactly the level that a band of this class should have. And then there's Rob Halford. Absolutely phenomenal, a top-3 Priest album for me. Mar 13, 2025

Rainbow leaves classic hard rock behind with their second album and begins to create the beginnings of the genre that would later be called power metal. The song material is practically perfect and the album features perhaps the strongest band line-up in history. The last two songs are pure masterpieces. If melodic old-school heavy metal with incredible vocal performances interests you, now you know where to look. Legendary! Mar 15, 2025
