Cosmicism 100/100
I used to play this album very very frequently. Now, after a bunch of years for a break, I'm amazed to find even more quality in it than I used to. All instruments including voice are just so phenomenal, the songs are inventive and expertly written, and the lyrics are crazy visceral while having true thought put into them. Even more of a flawless victory than you can get in Mortal Kombat (1992 Style). Nov 11, 2024

The score from the movie Halloween but covered. The original music was by John Carpenter, the director, and it's a major highlight of film history. Ulver can't go wrong with the iconic main theme, but the quality doesn't quite stay at the same level all the way through this album. Still, it's cool to see Ulver do something like this. Nov 4, 2024

Just learned about this band, and I'm very excited to catch up with them. Great black metal with some death metal for variety. Dark and gorgeous. Nov 4, 2024

The gothic metal of this album really hit the spot for me. Even the softer moments don't feel like filler. Thank you Tribulation. Nov 4, 2024

Not a good album. Actually very disappointing considering how their 2015 album was pretty good. This time there's not enough djent. Instead they wrote very weak emotionless & boring verses. Yeah the choruses are better in comparison, still nothing I'd call good. Even a bit overproduced. Overall, it's a bad album. Nov 4, 2024

Very enjoyable if you just want to get your aggression out, but then read those lyrics - you might laugh your butt off. I mean this in a very good way. Nov 4, 2024

Very nice and harsh for the most part. Though it ends with some uplifting posty punky emo-y stuff, the album travels through despair and rage until it gets there. Instrumentally, there's no black metal, though the vocals are obviously blackened. Glassing really caught my attention here: I like this more than I thought I was going to. Nov 4, 2024

Pretty good, but not great. Cut out some of the movie soundclips and I might bring it up to 80/100. Nov 4, 2024

Oh, would you stop all the cringey F-word garbage? Nothing special here for me. Actually, a bit disappointed considering how much I loved Kin. Oh well, they needed to start somewhere. Nov 4, 2024

Lots of interesting highlights in this very emotional album. Actually, it would take tons of explaining. For that reason, I think everyone should just listen to it. It doesn't quite make my end-of-year list, but still required listening if you ask me. Nov 4, 2024

It has a palpable feeling of danger and evil intentions. It does recall Blasphemer's work with Mayhem, which I am thankful for. Easy to recommend to any black metal fan. Nov 4, 2024

Disappointing for me. Definitely a bit weaker than their 2022 album. It seems like they're half-heartedly chasing the thall trend. Another so-so deathcore album that's better for record label than it is for the ear. OK, it's not so bad for the ear, but it's not particularly good either. Nov 4, 2024

This powerful & energizing deathgrind EP is a great start for Shock Withdrawal. I can't wait to hear more from this band. Nov 4, 2024

A good goregrind album that has a bit more nuance than I expected. Also the last track, a Moby cover, takes goregrind into a soothing & peaceful mode. This is something I never thought the genre would do, and the result is breathtaking, even spiritual-feeling; definitely the high point for me on this memorable album. Nov 4, 2024

Not all tracks are as excellent as the epic track 5, but there are other good parts as well, and nothing particularly bad - quite a solid album. Overall, if you ever listen to atmospheric BM, this will give you what you came for. Nov 4, 2024

Obnoxious and rambunctious punk interspersed with reggae chill-outs. Great energy and it might be played more skillfully than many would assume for such an underground punk band. A really enjoyable album. Nov 4, 2024

Good slam on this album with a cool cover. Also, the sound clips from movies or whatever are just the right length and not too frequent. So many bands go too far with that stuff, so it's good to see Visions of Disfigurement do it right. Nov 2, 2024

Since I enjoyed their 2024 album so much, I was stoked to learn they have earlier material. Slightly different style here with the war metal, but it's almost as good as their recent release. Nov 2, 2024

A nice change of pace for Devin; it almost feels like some of these songs would fit in on classic rock radio. Some people might say the last track is just gimmicky, but it's actually extremely clever and it's one of the best moments on the album. Nov 2, 2024

Another excellent album by Vananidr, with really captivating guitar work and great sense of sadness. Nov 2, 2024

Obvious it took a lot of work to produce this album with the classical music, electronica, & black metal making for a unique experience. There's an interesting use of a sound like when a CD is skipping, becoming a kind of percussion. It's a bizarre mix that will understandably turn off many people, but I think it deserves some recognition. Nov 2, 2024

Every aspect of this one just screams visceral power & passion. What a great band. Nov 2, 2024

I can tell the members are serious about their instruments, and these songs are quite challenging. Some huge flaws on the album include some painful treacle moments and corny ones too - major problems on the composition side. Also, I started really needing the singer to shut up, especially with the wordy & sophomoric lyrics in a vocal tone that gets old very fast. I know lots of people love this album, but those flaws drag the score down to a mediocre 75 for me. Nov 2, 2024

Excellent music in a filthy & abrasive soundscape. I get completely lost in the ocean of aggression & adrenaline when I listen to this album. Oct 30, 2024

Nov 4, 2024

Their most representative album of the eighties, full of innovation and class, with forceful themes and a benchmark in style for the hard rock genre, in fact it is their best-selling work to date! My personal precise rating is (94/100) Faves: Criyng In The Rain and Don´t Turn Away! Oct 30, 2024

완벽하다. 지금와서 painkiller 정도의 힘을 기대하는 것은 무리지만 관록과 경험으로 영그러진 놀라운 앨범을 냈다. 엔지니어링도 크게 한몫했다. Oct 31, 2024
