Another total success from Angel Dust. One of the most consistent bands in the game. This one is slower, more melodic, and closer to traditional Heavy Metal than previous albums, but it has no lack of incredible anthems (and still plenty of speed and energy). Jul 26, 2024

By this point, Anathema had let go of all Metal influence. However, thankfully they were still expert songwriters and masters of conveying emotion. What we have here is an amazingly emotional Alternative Rock record, and "One Last Goodbye" in particular is one of the greatest songs of all time. Jul 26, 2024

I will admit, this one bored me at times. It's a strong release, but the lack of any actual Melodeath on it hurts. Amorphis aren't as good at... Prog Folk Metal, or whatever this is. Jul 26, 2024

One of the most consistent Amon Amarth albums, with a total absence of lowpoints or highpoints. Very solid Melodeath, but lacks anything resembling a hit. Jul 26, 2024

A heavier, much Thrashier direction since their 80's material. Even with a new vocalist, the vocals are still poor, but the music, especially on the heavier tracks, is fantastic. Jul 26, 2024

Fantastic EP, Labyrinth delivering top quality Power Metal as always. My only complaint is the redone version of "In the shade" is actually worse than the original... which is a shame, cause that's my favorite Labyrinth song :( Jul 26, 2024

Strong debut album by Wuthering Heights, already displaying a fully developed Progressive Power Metal style, epic and adventurous. Jul 26, 2024

Great debut ep! Nice Death Doom elements to the mostly Prog Metal style. Jul 26, 2024

Warning were just starting to break free of their boring Trad Doom shackles here. Patrick's voice is not perfected, yet he crafts some very impressive and power vocal lines dripping with emotion; ditto for the lyrics. The music, unfortunately, doesn't keep up. Usually, it is still stuck on boring Trad Doom tropes and not effective at evoking emotion. But, certainly, hints of their future greatness were on display... Jul 17, 2024

Now this is a fun album with a few memorable and unique tracks in the style of Rammstein. The problem is, they just don't go quite far enough. There's a lot of potential here that they could capitalize on. Jul 17, 2024

A unique mix of Death Metal, Sludge, Metalcore... done quite well. Mid-tempo and weighty. Jul 17, 2024

Another solid Blackened Speed release from Bewitched, same quality as the previous material, same good riffs and energy. Jul 17, 2024

There's some really cool and dark stuff on here, but there's also monotonous tomfoolery, and it ends particularly weak. If they trimmed this it could be quite a strong album, but it remains inconsistent. Jul 17, 2024

Acid Drinker's short run of semi decent albums comes to a close. This one is mostly heavy Metal with hints of Thrash and Groove, and some other odd influences as well. Jul 17, 2024

Not Metal of any kind, but poor Experimental Rock. Purposeless. Jul 16, 2024

Really boring Sludge where the gimmick is to split each song into two parts for absolutely no reason. Jul 16, 2024

Total madness. Interesting at times but not a pleasant listen by any means. Jul 16, 2024

I thought this was crap the first time I heard it, but the more I listened to it, the more it grew on me. Some great compositions here, strong atmosphere and melodies. Would have been really great with real, normal drumming. I don't mind programmed drums, but these don't sound great, the blast beating/cybergrind-esque sections being particularly egregious. Jul 16, 2024

Unholy close out their career with probably their best record, featuring more clean female vocals and surreal, ominous atmosphere. Career highlights ...Of Tragedy and Wanderer are the best they ever wrote, but other songs fall into unpleasant meandering at times. Jul 16, 2024

Windham Hell have always been a bit of a mess, and this, their swansong, is no different. Wild and entertaining passages featuring great guitarwork and impressive drumming are stitched together with no sense of progression or songwriting whatsoever, and featuring nothing in the way of memorability save for how strange it all is. Jul 16, 2024

This one grew on me. Nothing stood out at first, but upon repeated listens, you find just about every song has low-key but very well crafted riffs, very good vocals as well. Jul 12, 2024

Thrash Metal? Ah... no. Weird mix of Alternative Metal and a variety of other styles. Not bad, not great. Fails to stand out much despite the weird eclecticism on display here, but closer "Tyyssija" is a great track. Jul 12, 2024

Really weird collection of covers and some original material. Some in the band's already bizarre and varied style, and some just... really out there. Not terrible, but... the sense of humor here really turns me off. Jul 12, 2024

More annoying circus metal. Not sure why every Avant-Garde Metal band feels the need to be goofy beyond belief. t's a shame too, because some of the Symphonic Death Metal present here would be great if they took it seriously. Jul 12, 2024

Super underrated Grind band, they deserve more love and recognition. Tons of great riffs here and a variety in rhythm section as opposed to mindless blast beats. Jul 12, 2024

Truly crushing and depressive Funeral Doom. Atmosphere, riffs, even some occasionally interesting rhythms. Fantastic debut. Jul 12, 2024

Heavy, violent, and rancid. Borders on Brutal Death Metal at times. Shallow, but crushing. Jul 12, 2024

More Speed Metal than Power Metal, Vientos De Guerra is a solid album with plenty of great drumming and good riffs as well. It does lack anything to let it beat out better Speed Metal albums though. Jul 12, 2024

Pretty much on par with the previous album, don't understand why this one doesn't get any love. Jul 12, 2024

Decent album from MacAlpine, leaning a bit more towards cheesy AOR at times. This isn't a negative for me, but the album doesn't pull the style off well enough to warrant any higher marks, and lacks energy at times. Jul 12, 2024

3 days ago

Great classic album with incredible songs like "The Evil That Men do","Moonchild" or "The Clairvoyant". Mar 4, 2025

Mar 10, 2025

I'm pretty sure this is the best debut in history. Sonata Arctica immediately does what they do best and the result is amazing. "FullMoon" is a great song. Mar 11, 2025

Great album but not at the level of the debut in my opinion. The band tries a bit of progressive direction with pretty good results, although some songs are quite weak. The end of the album is great. Good job Sonata! Mar 11, 2025

DT caught my attention with their previous album and this one confirms my thoughts on them. I´m not so fond of their old stuffs but these 2 keep me on my feet and I will go back to them regularly. Mar 12, 2025

Very good album by Dream Theater. As always Mar 4, 2025

The "Ram It Down" is a very underrated album, but in 1988 in the german Metal Hammer looked like a new classic by the soundcheck.Otherwise the "Ram it Down" and the "Hard As Iron"(with thundering riff) are great fast classic Priest songs. All in all i think only the "Love Zone" is the only one problematic song and the Lp is great.. Mar 8, 2025
