그 어떤 앨범보다도 분위기면에서 가장 일관성이 두드러진 작품이다. 밴드명부터 골이 빠개질 듯한데, 실제 음악은 기가 막히다. 그나마 후기작 보다는 여기까지가 듣기가 편하다. 앨범 자켓부터 시작해서 Beyond the Pale 같은 곡의 가사를 대충(^^영어가 후달려서...) 해석해보면 미성년자 청취불가 판정을 받을만한 내용이지만 Daniel Gildenlow의 미친 천재성이 전 곡에서 깊은 아우라를 전달하고 있다. 개인적으로 고음부분에서 은근히 쥐어짜는 느낌이 나는 그의 보컬이 너무나도 처절하여 Fandango 등 이해하기 힘든 구성을 지닌 곡들을 부담없이 들을 수 있었다. 발라드 트랙이 This Heart of Mine은 아름다운 선율이 지배하는 곡이지만 몽환적인 분위기를 이끌어 내기도 하며, 여러 군데에서 보이는 기타 플레이도 일품이다. Progressive Metal에서 Dream Theater와는 다른, 완전히 독보적인 세계를 갖고 있는 밴드로, 차기작 BE에서는 이러한 성향이 더욱 강하게 나타나는 것을 볼 수 있다.

Pain of Salvation za dobu svojej existencie vydali veľké množstvo albumov, pričom niektoré zanechali výraznú stopu na prog. metal-ovej scéne. Nové album "Panther" opäť spĺňa definíciu slova progresívny, to je byť pokrokový, skúšať nové možnosti a nápady.
