A more "accessible" approach to the old Black Sabbath sound, generally being reminiscent of the '80s heavy metal style seen on other bands(which, technically, I guess they influenced). Nonetheless this became a good record with Tony Martin's vocals fitting perfectly with Iommi's great guitar work. Jul 31, 2015

Quite the listen. Epitome of Torture is really an extension of the Sodom before this album, exhibiting similar styles, progression, riffs, and even vocals. Jul 31, 2015

Yeah, this one was good. Although there was nothing really new, the brutal songs by these Teutonic legends was really satisfying. This album was sort of like a result of breeding M-16 with Sodom, with both heavy, brutal parts and great riffs. Jul 31, 2015

Revival of the old Sodom songs. This is essentially a re-recorded album of old songs. Frankly, the early version songs like Witching Metal was really hard to listen to with the awful recording quality. Well, did Tom succeed in his attempt? I have mixed feelings about it, because the songs are sort of... not like the old Sodom. Jul 31, 2015

The official comeback of the old Sodom. Fit with a more modern sound, Code Red diverted the Punk Sodom(which I personally like) with more old style riffage and progression. One thing that hasn't changed is the yelling vocals that differ from the old Tom Angelripper vocals. Hmm, not sure how I feel about that. Jul 31, 2015

Quite the album they've got here! The songs flow seamlessly and are all stupendously great. Sometimes I don't like the lyrics but all in all this is a really good hard rock album. Don't Fear The Reaper and E.T.I. are must listens. Jul 30, 2015

What a great lineup, I wish the album would've matched the awesomeness. I'm not saying the album is bad though, because The Gathering has lots of great moments where you can headbang to the song without a single worry. Jul 30, 2015

Personally I think this is a very solid, wonderful album. A more of a Death Metal influenced album, going as far as almost not using any clean vocals. The songs generally have a cool Deathrash feeling, with great riffage(obviously important in thrash) and composition. Jul 30, 2015

A more of a "publicly accessible" album by Testament, incorporating ballads and lots of fun riffs. I believe one of the Testament guys said the record company wanted a Black Album-type record after having seen Metallica blow up on popular media. They kind of miscalculated the action, though, creating a tremendous setback for the band. Jul 30, 2015

A personal favorite by Slayer. Practically every song is brutal, fun, heavily thrashy and perfect. Make sure to read the lyrics, sometimes they're pretty insightful. Jul 30, 2015

Great album by these Thrash giants from California. Showing sort of a transition period from the no-brainer speedy and powerful songs to some more thought out but still brutal songs, South of Heaven has quite a few gems that should be listened a lot. Afterall, aren't these guys Slayer? Jul 30, 2015

Generally I say lengthy stuff about albums. This one, though, I have no words to say at all. No. Yeah. Am I being verbose? Jul 29, 2015

Valfar sure knows how to write his melodies. This album shows crazy catchy and amazing melodic lines just like his previous work, with an increased brutality. Some parts are repetitive, so it might've been good for Valfar to embellish those bits with changes to melodic lines or time signatures or something. I don't know, leave that to Valfar. Oh, wait... This may be the most accessible record by these guys, appealing for both Cannibal Corpse fans and non-fans. The tracks are really well thought out and somewhat creative. Some songs carry the old Death Metal feeling that Cannibal Corpse had done for years, some are distinctive and show their own color and taste. Jul 29, 2015

What an amazing listen! This is probably one of the brutal records on the '80s Thrash Metal spectrum. Gene's persistent crushing drumming, brutal guitar tone&riffs, and those vocals! Good stuff that goes hand-in-hand with their previous effort. Jul 29, 2015
Kildneybean 95/100
Top notch Sludge Metal! Probably one of the greatest Sludge albums ever to be recorded. This has what all Sludge records should have: awesome riffs conveyed in the distinctive "sludgy" guitar sound, an appropriate vocal tone, and the atmosphere generated by all those elements. Jul 29, 2015

It's not only me who can't stand Labrie's voice. Just hearing his voice feels like I'm being castrated. Such an emasculated, creepy voice! The look-what-I-can-play instrumental parts are stupid and insipid, too. Jul 28, 2015
Kildneybean 40/100
50 points for the abomination so-called an "album", minus 10 points for the amazing songs they've absolutely ravaged. Jul 28, 2015

A bad album by an even worse band. Is there really anyting more to comment on? Jul 28, 2015

A very hilarious attempt on trying to sound as heavy as they can. FAIL! Jul 28, 2015

This album really explores the boundaries of what the Stoner Doom genre can achieve. Try to listen to the various styles and how the song unfurls. Some tracks pull out the full blown, rather authentic Stoner Doom feeling and it's pleasing for a listen. Jul 27, 2015

Folky, Ambient Black Metal. The distinctive flute-like instrument really makes you envision the mountainous lands of Scotland. The melodic lines are really well composed. Jul 27, 2015

One of the best Live albums ever! All three members' prowesses(including Geddy's voice) are still doing perfect, as they perform gems from every single album of their career flawlessly. Three and almost a half hours never felt so entertaining. Highly recommended. Jul 27, 2015

Joel's early work shows more of a unrefined punkish sound and is really good! I saw some people who prefer Hell on Earth to Conjure and Command and vice versa(me being the latter), so I'd suggest you try out both albums. Jul 27, 2015

Honestly an above average album, but indistinguishably similar to their other later work. Write more varied stuff, Kataklysm! Jul 27, 2015
Kildneybean 80/100
This is an album where the songs are clearly divided into two groups: great and weak. The album constantly alternates between those two groups and I honestly think the album gets really lame(lame than it's supposed to be) by that layout. Jul 27, 2015

UK Death Metal giants Bolt Thrower really knows how to write an amazing record. They bash on the guitars incessantly, producing a tone quite unique to their sound. Good songs from start to finish! Jul 27, 2015

Proggy and sometimes technical Thrash metal. Thrash is a genre where the riffage is considered a pivotal value, and these guys sure come up with great ones. Jul 27, 2015

I just love Joel Grind's work and how he tries to mash up '80s Speed/Thrash Metal with Punk(notably Hardcore). Acid Fuzz has a really cool, chaotic animated Music Video that you should check out. Jul 26, 2015

Love this album. The sporadic double-layered melodic lines using heavy and acoustic guitars at the same time are quite nice to hear. Awesome melodies they come up with too. Jul 26, 2015

Nov 4, 2024

Their most representative album of the eighties, full of innovation and class, with forceful themes and a benchmark in style for the hard rock genre, in fact it is their best-selling work to date! My personal precise rating is (94/100) Faves: Criyng In The Rain and Don´t Turn Away! Oct 30, 2024

완벽하다. 지금와서 painkiller 정도의 힘을 기대하는 것은 무리지만 관록과 경험으로 영그러진 놀라운 앨범을 냈다. 엔지니어링도 크게 한몫했다. Oct 31, 2024
