1990년 핀란드 헬싱키에서 결성된 바 있는 Amorphis의 이름을 널리 알린 정규 두 번째 작품 Tales From The Thousand Lakes 앨범으로, Elegy 앨범과 더불어 Amorphis 최고작으로 평가 받는다. 아랍풍의 멜로디와 다소 쉬워진 기타리프 , 멜로디컬한 진행을 구사하는 초창기 Melodic Death Metal 명반으로 여성보컬의 기용과 정식으로 키보드주자를 맞이함으로써 보다 심포닉한 사운드를 선보인다. 전체적으로 앨범아트웍에서 느낄 수 있는 신비스러운 분위기를 지니고 있으며 이후 앨범을 거듭할 수록 소프트한 사운드로 변모하게 된다.

해외에서 이 앨범은 전작 못지 않은 걸작반열에 올라가 있고, 멜로딕 메틀 탄생에 상당한 영향력을 발휘한 앨범으로 인정되고 있다. 하지만 국내에서는 그 묘한 멜로디때문에 평가절하되고 있는데, Metal Kingdom에서도 그런 것 같아 좀 아쉽다.
