VOIVOD!!! Voivod's first album shows a very raw and original feeling that pretty much only Voivod carries. Aug 8, 2015

This album was a nice unexpected surprise. I, without any major expectations, listened to it and was blown away. Then I googled the lineup, and guess what? Robert Lowe! I don't know why it hadn't occurred to me even though I thought "man, this band's vocalist sings just like the guy from Candlemass." Even though the instrumental parts are lighter than Candlemass, It's just plain greatness. Aug 8, 2015

This... is freaking amazing! This just blew my mind. I was out of words by the thought that how a Technical Death Metal album could be this rapturous. Riffs, techniques, keyboards, you name it, they've got it. Aug 6, 2015

Very fierce, violent, aggressive, brutal and intensely intense. But the best part is, that it's just so much fun. Let the headbangs ensue! Aug 6, 2015

I, unknowingly, overly speed up my bike when I'm riding with this album on the playlist. I sometimes even miss red lights and almost perform a 360 no-scope on a vehicle with my body. That is just how much this album pumps me up. Aug 6, 2015

Awesome! It's simply a blessing to be able to listen to this album while doing nothing but displaying physical indications of well-executed eupnea. Aug 6, 2015

Very artistic, very exquisite and very well done. It emanates a thing that Opeth has for the longest time never showed; maturity. The songs are the finished archetype of their sound. Aug 6, 2015

Great work! I'd happily take this improvement. Definitely shows more emphasis on the rock aspect of Opeth's sound. The best thing? They no longer muddle and mix up heavy and non-heavy parts, and that was really awful to hear on their early work. Aug 6, 2015

Hmm, a nice rendition of Opeth's heaviness, which has gone more lighter than their previous work. I'd say that's some improved work, though I still can't approve the sudden clean vocals cutting in on heavy parts/after growling vocals. Seems so awkward! (I'll be complaining about this for a few more albums, obviously.) Aug 6, 2015

The heaviness per album curve that Opeth drew since setting different ways with Nihilist(aka Entombed) in the early '90s has constantly been dropping down. I believe this is the last record they released where Opeth actually exhibited any Death Metal influneces. The proggy songs are quite nice but Opeth confuses Metal with Acoustic Rock once again. Opeth are definitely getting better through the years. Though there's nothing trailblazing shown on this album, it feels like a continuation of the sound Opeth went for on Damnation. Aug 5, 2015

Definitely better than Blackwater Park, with lots of appealing riffs and great growling vocals, Still having a hard time standing when the songs alternate between Death Metal and Progressive Soft Rock. Aug 5, 2015

Awesome badass heavy melodic riffs desecrated by soft vocals and acoustic guitar sounds. I cringed at the 7:20 mark on the song Bleak when Mikael sang with a really soft tone while on the background there was so much heavy stuff. Really, Mr. Åkerfeldt? Aug 5, 2015

The album starts off really heavy, and then it drops down to a bunch of limp acoustic guitar parts where it loses all the power. I'm sure that's intended on the band's part, but i just couldn't get whay they wrote the songs like that. Though the songs are not bad at all, the nosy acoustic parts that interrupts the badass heavy bits don't really make sense. Aug 5, 2015

Sodom's not-so-great live album. I don't know what's wrong; the recording quality or the actual performance, but it wasn't appeasing to listen to at all. Aug 5, 2015

Grind/Death done in a much cleaner and classy way, still never losing the brutality. Super clear recording quality too. Napalm Death never puts out no weak records! Aug 4, 2015

Another pretty nice mix up of Death Metal and Grindcore. What makes this album shine is the groovy, headbang-inducing amazing riffs. Aug 4, 2015

Definitely an excellent Napalm Death release! It shows more of a Death Metal style than Grindcore(perhaps Deathgrind?). It has a high pull-in value where you easily get sucked in listening to this album. Aug 4, 2015

This feels like a very "refined" Immolation. The album is very intense, integrating multiple guitar lines which flow seamlessly through a full individual song. Aug 4, 2015

A 3-streak of remarkable releases. Destruction's third effort is more balanced towards a heavy, bulky sound that has the razor-sharp guitar sounds turned down a notch. They've got some mad skills tho. Aug 4, 2015

Man, this is a unique band. Their sophomore album, Eternal Devastation, shows some of the freshest work that Thrash Metal has ever offered. The thrashy riffs, amazing solos with great techniques from time to time, and a distinctive guitar tone that would later be used by Swedes all make this album a great one. Aug 4, 2015

The bands that fall into the "Teutonic Thrash" category all have their own color and style. These guys show more of a techincal and speedy-riff oriented sound along with relatively high toned vocals. That style, along with beastly riff writing skills, is what makes this band one of the four giants of German Thrash. Aug 4, 2015

Most Napalm Death releases pump me up no matter how much I listen to it. This album, Fear, Emptiness, Despair, shows a rather organic/organized sound, but still is no exception. Aug 3, 2015

Looove the Death Metal influences on this album. Not only have the songs become longer, but they wrote songs that seem more like a full body as opposed to the disoriented, partitioned short songs they wrote before. Aug 3, 2015

One of the reasons artists go for EP releases is because they know that their fans want quality over quantity. This release was a very nice move on Immolation's part because there clearly are some improvements compared to the predecessor. Aug 3, 2015

This would've been a very fine album if some other Death Metal band released it, but it's a downer for an Immolation album. They definitely need more creative brains to break up the usual style they've conformed to. Aug 3, 2015

I just love Gorguts and how they're so weird and technical and experimental and awesome at the same time. No other way to put it. Aug 3, 2015
Kildneybean 85/100
The early Gorguts style was really alike what had been going on in the Death Metal scene, circa 1991. The sound Gorguts is famous with isn't yet exhibited, and it's rather a standard OSDM feeling. Nevertheless it's really well made and enjoyable. Aug 3, 2015

This album is really strange, because as I was listening I could definitely say that the songs were good but none of the songs were actually memorable. Even after a few more listens I still got the same feeling. Weird! Maybe it's because their groovy change of style is too banal. Aug 2, 2015

Nov 4, 2024

Their most representative album of the eighties, full of innovation and class, with forceful themes and a benchmark in style for the hard rock genre, in fact it is their best-selling work to date! My personal precise rating is (94/100) Faves: Criyng In The Rain and Don´t Turn Away! Oct 30, 2024

완벽하다. 지금와서 painkiller 정도의 힘을 기대하는 것은 무리지만 관록과 경험으로 영그러진 놀라운 앨범을 냈다. 엔지니어링도 크게 한몫했다. Oct 31, 2024
