new album "Beautiful Distortion" combines elements of Atmospheric/Electronic Rock and Alternative Rock. Album was produced by Attie Bauw, who was also responsible for "How to Measure a Planet?" and "Home" albums. Jan 21, 2023

This is another masterpiece by great Dutch genius Arjen Anthony Lucassen, who simply refuses to disappoint his fan base. This double-album delivers everything Ayreon fans had been hoping for. "The Source" is full of great vocalists, almost all of whom have previously worked with Arjen on at least one occasion. It features Ayreon’s usual blend of Prog. Rock/Metal, folk and electronics, with more guitar riffs than usual. Jan 20, 2023

"Transitus" is slightly different album from the previous ones with a different compositional approach, but it's still excellent and quality Progressive material. When it comes to writing stories, Arjen has always been able to delight the concept album lovers with his perfect ideas & as always, there is a superb cast of exceptional vocalists assembled to bring them to life. In some parts, music sounds more like a musical than a conventional Rock album. Jan 20, 2023

Sundown was a Gothic Metal/Rock band formed by Mathias Lodmalm after leaving Cemetary group and also Johnny Hagel, who was before a member of Tiamat group. Especially the first album "Design 19" was excellent from my point of view and contained a lot of strong and interesting songs in the given style. However, the following "Glimmer" contained a smaller portion of strong songs and moved partly in a different direction. Jan 16, 2023

Album "Dystopia" introduced a new singer Stu Block for the first time in Iced Earth music. Block’s performance mostly focuses on a mid-range aggressive voice reminiscent of Barlow though he also lets out plenty of Ripper-styled screams. Album offers powerful mid-paced crunchy riffs, strong chorus, cool structure and adventurous songwriting. Album theme revolving around oppressive governments, brainwashing and all the other forms of control. Jan 15, 2023

In the Woods on their third album "Strange in Stereo" achieves endeavor of alternating stylistic course while maintaining a singular identity, whereas combines slower-paced Progressive, Experimental, Ambient and Psychedelics music. This is a much more abstract work, in both song-structure and sequence. Much of the guitar work conjures somber moods, with dark, atmospheric riffs and melodies. Jan 14, 2023

On "Omnio" album, In the Woods combines Progressive Avantgarde Doom Metal with dark ambiance. With this album sees the band moving into uncharted waters. They passes to more atmospheric sound, adding keyboards, melodic guitar riffs, steady bass lines, female vocals, and the occasional distortion and male variated singing to add to the complexity of the band. This leads to an album of bewildering variety, depth and unpredictability. Jan 14, 2023

I have a weakness for Iced Earth. "Incorruptible" is engaging and passionate Power Metal record with great production, skilled guitar work and strong vocals that might at times remind of Stu Block's predecessors without copying them. I’m actually enjoying his vocals on this album. The riffing on this album is really good, eand also solos are over the top incredible and add that extra layer to the songs. Jan 14, 2023

"Horror Show" is a concept album that is based around characters of classic horror movies and other such folklore. Most of the songs tend to be at about the same level of quality with only a few being particularly awesome. Album is certainly a worthy addition to a metalheads collection, as well as an essential one to those collecting entire Iced Earth discography. Jan 13, 2023

"Night of the Stormrider" combines Power/Thrash Metal with epic moments & structures. John Schaffer write relentless thrash riffs, only to stop for further melodic interludes within the song, but that only adds power to the monstrous attack force. John Greenly is actually a pretty good singer, regardless of what some people think. He has plenty of depth to his voice and has quite a vocal range. Jan 13, 2023

"Framing Armageddon - Something Wicked Part 1" is even more experimental than before. Jon Schaffer decided to play around more with atmosphere and concept building rather than straightforward songs. The songs are well varied in their performance and range from atmospheric interludes to heavy riffed, call to arms anthems. Also Owens totally outdoes himself on this album, giving one of my favourite vocal performances. Jan 13, 2023

"Belly of the Beast" is great modern Heavy Metal & Hard Rock album. It has an excellent sound, strong ideas and quality Joe's vocals. His new album confirms the sentence, which applies to some exceptional people, that age is just a number (he will celebrate his 72nd birthday this year). Jan 11, 2023

"Return to Live " is an excellent live recording with their best songs and high-quality musicianship, at the same time with good sound Jan 8, 2023

"Return to Heaven Denied Pt.II - A Midnight Autumn's Dream" album finds Labÿrinth returning to their Power/Prog. Metal origins in truly spectacular fashion, but with a few hints of that Melodic Rock. Olaf Thorsen's return is really what made this great album to form possible. This release is a very vocal melody based metal album. Overall sound is very symphonic with lots of keyboards & Tiranti's vocals especially during the ballad parts of the album give off a romantic aura. Jan 8, 2023

"6 Days to Nowhere" is one of the examples of a former Power Metal band going in an entirely new, strange direction, as this is basically a cross between subdued Melodic Metal and Soft Rock. Although there are moments where things really pick up, almost every song has ballad-like sections and down tempo break downs that completely ruin the flow of the album. Inconsistencies in the direction of the songwriting pop up again and again, often several times in a single song. Jan 7, 2023

Labyrinth is still in search on "Freeman" album and has again moved away from the path and sound of the first excellent albums. The band left the place & sound that bring them their name, fame and their status and bring their new own view of combination Power Metal with Groovy and Nu-metal elements. Jan 7, 2023

This album is much less Melodic Power Metal oriented than their previous releases. Not long after founding guitarist Olaf Thörsen left, the band entered an unprecedented identity crisis. The album as a whole is not bad, it even has a few strong songs, but it doesn't reach the quality of the first three albums. Jan 7, 2023

"Sons of Thunder" is much heavier, less melodic and more progressive than the previous few Labyrinth albums. The production is a bit rough around the edges. And because of the fact that the songs don't really follow the typical power metal song structure formula means that this will definately take time to grow on the listener. Jan 7, 2023

"Architecture of a God" offers all of the best sounds Labyrinth has to offer, from every style across their discography. All of their experience and talent has coalesced into something that embodies what Italian Power Metal is about these days. Album is with "Return to Heaven Denied Pt.II - A Midnight Autumn's Dream" easily the best Labÿrinth release since their masterpiece "Return To Heaven Denied" from 1998 year. Jan 7, 2023

There's only 5 songs on “Timeless Crime”, but it is worth buying despite being so short album & this is still a solid piece of metal. This little EP is packed with some very ambitious and entertaining feats of musicality. It could be a nice addition to the collection of any fan of Labyrinth, particularly those curious as to how the older material would sound with Rob Tyrant. Jan 7, 2023

Labÿrinth are very unique band and their new material is always worth checking out. "Welcome to The Absurd Circus" brings the band back to soaring, riff Power/Heavy metal, with a few of their modern tweaks from the last few albums still intact. There are great guitar riffs, coupled with the usual keyboard riffs Labyrinth use to layer their music and at the same time high quality singing. Jan 7, 2023

Do you know a singer named Joe Terry? Not? What about Fabio Lione? I don't know why he chose such a pseudonym, but he is the one who sings on the first Labyrinth album "No Limits". Album is heavily laced with keyboards and occasionally exhibits a sort of techno character thanks to the input of short-time keyboardist Ken Taylor. Jan 7, 2023

"Ghosts" is strong and emotional symphonic Power/Heavy Metal album with a wider variety of both orchestral and synth sounds. Metal music is mixed with heavy synthesizers and orchestrations that are integrated so well into the songwriting that you don't even notice sometimes. The sound is not quite heavy as on "XIII" album, and the orchestration is a bit more integral to the sound, helping form the melodies that play in your head long after the music ends. Jan 7, 2023

Most metal and rock fans know the singer Jørn Lande, but only few know the band Mundanus Imperium, with whom he created a unique and original album "The Spectral Spheres Coronation". Album sound like a mixture between Progressive Metal, Symphonic Black Metal and Hard Rock. The music is built on melodic and clean vocals, which are combined with mentioned fast metal offshoot and the result is unique. Music literally speaks to me with its moods and tempers. Jan 7, 2023

After the success of the previous symphonic-experimental album "Lingua Mortis", the band decided that the new album will combine elements of the old work with the latest experience. This is the best experience of mixing Power/Heavy Metal with classics and symphocic music ever. Jan 7, 2023

This album is as unique in their entire discography as it can be. On "Lingua Mortis" album, Rage plays with the Prague symphonic orchestra, and they manage to make it sound as if they had actually composed the songs right there with the symphony. Songs are sensitively complemented and connected with symphonic orchestra. There is no doubt that Rage created an incredibly high-quality and captivating experience for more demanding listeners of top music. Jan 7, 2023

"The Year of the Voyager" is Nevermore's only one live record featuring nineteen songs and two hours of technically stunning music somewhere between Power/Progressive and sometimes Groove Metal. Album represents a band with great chemistry at the peak of its career, where you can hear in every song absolutely flawless instrumental work & strong melodic vocals. Jan 7, 2023

Threshold are top songwriters, extraordinary players, who combines Melodic Progressive Metal with Modern Neo Prog & slight flirtation with contemporary synth Pop Rock. Songs offer totally fresh sounds, with some of the placid moments, slow instrumentation and modern anthemic vocal lines. Vocal lines are smooth, easy to remember and catchy. Jan 6, 2023

Firewind’s music definitely belongs in the category of contemporary Power Metal. With album number eight "Immortals" the band started a new chapter. In 2015 band announced new vocalist Henning Base, who was known for his work with Metallium & Mayan. Album contains great songs, supported by excellent Henning singing. Semi-concept album deals with ancient Greek history, and more specifically with the Persian invasion of Greece in 480 BC. Jan 6, 2023

5 days ago

Mar 10, 2025

I'm pretty sure this is the best debut in history. Sonata Arctica immediately does what they do best and the result is amazing. "FullMoon" is a great song. Mar 11, 2025

Great album but not at the level of the debut in my opinion. The band tries a bit of progressive direction with pretty good results, although some songs are quite weak. The end of the album is great. Good job Sonata! Mar 11, 2025

DT caught my attention with their previous album and this one confirms my thoughts on them. I´m not so fond of their old stuffs but these 2 keep me on my feet and I will go back to them regularly. Mar 12, 2025

The "Ram It Down" is a very underrated album, but in 1988 in the german Metal Hammer looked like a new classic by the soundcheck.Otherwise the "Ram it Down" and the "Hard As Iron"(with thundering riff) are great fast classic Priest songs. All in all i think only the "Love Zone" is the only one problematic song and the Lp is great.. Mar 8, 2025

Mar 9, 2025

Fantastic classic album with the legendary Ronnie James Dio.. Mar 9, 2025
