"From the Inside" is a concept album about Cooper's stay in a New York asylum due to his alcoholism. Each of the characters in the songs were based on real people, that Cooper met in the asylum. The songs are full of good ideas created by talented musicians. In 2009, Alice Cooper stated "It was musically one of the best albums I ever did", but I think he has better albums. Dec 18, 2022

"Aberrations of the Mind" is little more different from its predecessor, whereas continues the trend towards a greater emphasis on straightforwardness and heaviness. Guitars are possibly even heavier, but are also simpler. However, compared to the old albums often does miss a sense of melody to balance out the heaviness. Gone are the intricacies and alternations between clean, acoustic and heavy parts (at least any sort of effective use of the alternations). Dec 17, 2022

Seven Words is instantly recognisable as a Xentrix album & it is a energetic, powerful and remarkably consistent UK Thrash Metal recording with great dynamic production. Xentrix have always been a band who deliver muscular yet melodic mid-tempo thrash, with excellent guitar harmonies and suitable small songwriting twist in songs. Dec 17, 2022

After Morgana Lefay band split in 1997, Rytkönen and Eriksson formed an offshoot known as Lefay, with the support of three musicians from Fantasmagoria. Production of this album is as always fantastic and to sumarize, it is another strong release, that is recommend for all fans of mindblowingly Doomy Power Metal. You will hear haunting atmospheric ballads, bonecrushing doom hymns, and speedy riff fests in between. Dec 16, 2022

"Grand Materia" is great comeback album. It is Morgana Lefay's first album since 1999, and the first to feature mainstays Charles Rytkönen and Tony Eriksson since 1996. Some songs contain killer riffing, which is slightly faster than on the rest of the album. And although there is plenty of Power & Thrash in the songs, the band never forgets to add melody to their sound. Album "Grand Materia," tells story of a man that discovers a way to make himself immortal. Dec 16, 2022

great compilation. So many good songs. I usually prefer only series albums, but in this case I would like to make an exception. "Past Present Future" also contains two excellent cover versions: one from ABBA and second one from Crimson Glory. Dec 16, 2022

If you like Power Metal with Doom parts, this album is made for you. It has a few slow moments, but a majority of the material here is aggressive and rough. This album has great drumming, guitars and riffing overall. And of course Charles Rytkönen with his magnificent vocals, which has many different ranges. Dec 16, 2022

Epica play on "The Alchemy Project" album combination of Gothic Metal, Progressive Power Metal & Death Metal. Almost every song has a distinct and unique feel and the band trie to always looking for ways to evolve their sound and grow their audience without losing their core. The best songs are in my opinion "The Final Lullaby", "Wake the World", "The Miner" and "The Great Tribulation". Dec 14, 2022

Most people knew the story of Marco Polo and his famed travel, with which he inspired such a fascinting image of the western world. Album is of high quality, the story is of course successful, but the ending seemed incomplete. Surely three more songs could have been played for a high-quality completion of the story. It is a 40 minutes album of nine tracks with the complete arrangement of an intro and outro and an instrumental piece,. Dec 11, 2022

"The Gang's All Here" is the sixth studio album by American Street/Heavy Metal & Rock band Skid Row and it is the band's first release with new lead singer Erik Grönwall who replaced ZP Theart in March 2022. Also it is band's first studio album in sixteen years since album "Revolutions per Minute". It's a successful comeback album, and in addition to Metal, it moves significantly in Hard Rock waters. After non-acceptance of 2013's Super Collider, Dave decided he had to come back to the Thrash Metal roots and to the original Megadeth essence. Accompanied by a new lineup which consists drummer Chris Adler (Lamb of God) and guitar virtuoso Kiko Lourerio (Angra). Overall, the album is one of Megadeth's best albums, being a significant highlight of their career. The album is a good listen from start to end, and the consistency makes one want to always listen to it as such. Dec 11, 2022

The new material on the "TH1RT3EN" album has certainly much less thrashy edge than "Endgame" or even "United Abominations" did, and goes down a more simplistic road, reminiscent of Megadeth's middle-era. But I don't have a problem with that. It is wonderful to hear Dave Ellefson back, because his signature bass sound always held the backbone of the older releases. With a few exceptions, the guitars seem to be a bit more restrained in terms of soloing. Dec 11, 2022

"Endgame" shows that Megadeth still has a lot to offer to the metal scene after all these years and that they still kick ass. It is first album to feature Megadeth's new guitarist Chris Broderick. Band tries almost everything, from incredible thrash riffs to acoustic pieces and fast technical solos. You can hear many great riffs and solos that totally steal the show, some of the best choruses, nice melodies, as well as solid and well executed drumming. Dec 11, 2022

Compared to the previous album, "United Abominations" is thrashier, angrier, and generally more politically oriented in the lyrics. Some riffs do bear a strong resemblance to pre 1991 Megadeth, coming after you with an almost renewed intensity. This definitely isn't a return to Megadeth's old sound, but I would argue, that sound is something between Youthanasia and Rust in Peace albums. Dec 11, 2022

"Rude Awakening" is first official live release and contains best songs off each Megadeth's album (minus "Risk" album) that are put all together on a flawless live performance in which each of the band members are given an oppertunity to shine. It also contains little mistakes, that always give live albums a certain charm. Sound quality is about as good as it gets, every instrument is heard pretty clearly and mixed in the right way. Dec 11, 2022

At the time of the album's release, Sanctuary Records was on the brink of demise & because of this, couldn't promote "The System Has Failed" to what it deserved, and it just simply came and went. This excellent work remained buried & forgotten. Dave Mustaine writing pretty much the whole album, the session additions of returning guitarist Chris Poland, Jimmy Sloas on bass, and Zappa drummer Vinnie Colaiuta forming the core of the albums lineup, and a myriad of other guests. Dec 11, 2022

This album is definitely different from Megadeth's previous albums, but it's still packed full of some great songs. There are more mid-tempo, melodic heavy metal riffs and more than a fair share of memorable choruses that could get consistent radio rotation without forgetting the guitar solo's. What you get is some songs with great metal riffs and choruses, emotional ballads and the occassional ass kicker with at least some thrash appeal. Dec 11, 2022

Visions Of Atlantis is slightly underrated band in the Symphonic Metal scene and I never quite understood why. The consonance and dynamics between clean/classic female and male vocals in Symphonic Heavy/Power Metal fit together nicely here. Songs are catchy, musicians showing their talents & good ideas. Dec 10, 2022

"Synchro Anarchy" is the 15th studio album by Canadian Progressive Metal/Rock veterans Voivod. Rhythmically and musically, Voivod has been too laid-back to seriously be considered a Thrash Metal band for decades now. Music has a little bit of a Post Punk feel and notable fusion influences have crept into the band’s arrangements as well. Dec 10, 2022

Royal Hunt is one of the bands that has never receive the recognition they deserve. "Dystopia – Part II" is a great album from this Danish Progressive/Neoclassical Metal band. I have listened to the album at least 10 times and the more I listen to it, the more I like it. The songs are all unique and never start sounding the same or boring along, even at the end. Dec 10, 2022

"Extreme Aggression" is link between their earlier raging period and "Coma Of Souls" techno thrash. They mix the right amount of melody, riffs and aggressiveness, with changing pace and key fluently without losing control of the composition. The album is loaded with all the characteristic attributes of the genre staple, from deadly riffs (mostly mid-paced) to solid drumming. Not a single bad song or note to be found here. Dec 7, 2022

"Terrible Certainty " is pretty short album, not even 40 minutes, although it does make up for it in quality. They slightly reduced the brutality and did get started writing better riffs and more complex compositions. "Terrible Certainty" is a too overlooked piece in the Kreator’s discography just because it’s stuck between two representative albums: "Pleasure To Kill" & "Extreme Aggression", but it's still a great album. Dec 7, 2022

"Pleasure to Kill" will kick your ass over and over again, every song here is fast, brutal and evil as hell. It is a non-stop lesson in violence and brutality. Not only can you find some of the best riffs in Thrash Metal on this record, but the songs have much more personality and variety in them, and as individual tracks are far more recognizable than most of those thrash classics that are usually known for their brutality. Dec 7, 2022

Only a year after their debut album, Destruction was ready to hit us again with their new release "Eternal Devastation". The riffs sounds pretty catchy and dominant and everything else is in total subservience. Schmier's vocals are quite high-pitched at times, annoying after a while & monotonous. Production is slightly terrible, that the record's value and brilliancy really is ruined by it. There is a huge imbalance between the volume of the guitars and the drums. Dec 7, 2022

More than thirty years after its release, "Scum" still sounds for me like total crap. To top things off, the production is terrible and is a mess all around. Lyrics behind this album possess some real depth, being one of the harshest anti-capitalist critiques in all of music, but all I can hear is just pure noise coming from every single member in the band. Dec 6, 2022

"Scream Bloody Gore" has an excellent front cover. Drinking and laughing skeletons in the catacombs. The songs here are a pretty good reflection of the old Death/Thrash Metal days, but not entirely perfect. This album can be no longer impressive on account of its extremity, which has been far surpassed. But it does have an infuriating energy. Dec 6, 2022

Previous album "Leprosy" was still a very straightforward but on "Spiritual Healing" the music got much more technical and slowed down quite much. There are more technical riffing, slower pace and more solos. The line-up stays almost the same, only Rick Rozz left the band to be replaced by James Murphy. The added technicality was something really new in the death metal-scene back then and also Spiritual Healing's intelligent, non-gore lyrics were something quite spectacular. Dec 6, 2022

I think, "Symbolic" is the best Death's album. The music is very melodic and the production is very good, without the music straying toward the Gothenburg sound. There is something for everyone in this album, harsh vocals, incredible guitar melodies and pounding drums so the listener should easily like this album just the way I did. Dec 6, 2022

Pretty much everything has improved compared to the previous album: songwriting, musicmanship and even lyrics. There are a few interesting songs, but overall I don't think the album is as great and stellar as most of the reviews. I see a weaker point in repeating riffs, that begin to get a little monotonous. However Chuck's solos manage to breathe much needed life into each song, helping to wash away the bitter taste of Rozz monotony. Dec 6, 2022

The album is mostly known for the song "Mother". It's good album, but it's far from as great as some would have you believe. It is mostly a combination of Hard Rock with a strong Blues influence and some Metal parts. But the guitar and drum sounds are thin and cardboardy and the bass is nonexistent, everything is dry as possible. Dec 6, 2022

5 days ago

Mar 10, 2025

I'm pretty sure this is the best debut in history. Sonata Arctica immediately does what they do best and the result is amazing. "FullMoon" is a great song. Mar 11, 2025

Great album but not at the level of the debut in my opinion. The band tries a bit of progressive direction with pretty good results, although some songs are quite weak. The end of the album is great. Good job Sonata! Mar 11, 2025

DT caught my attention with their previous album and this one confirms my thoughts on them. I´m not so fond of their old stuffs but these 2 keep me on my feet and I will go back to them regularly. Mar 12, 2025

The "Ram It Down" is a very underrated album, but in 1988 in the german Metal Hammer looked like a new classic by the soundcheck.Otherwise the "Ram it Down" and the "Hard As Iron"(with thundering riff) are great fast classic Priest songs. All in all i think only the "Love Zone" is the only one problematic song and the Lp is great.. Mar 8, 2025

Mar 9, 2025

Fantastic classic album with the legendary Ronnie James Dio.. Mar 9, 2025
