"The Premonition" is Firewind's best album yet, a rousing celebration of melodic power and speed laden in quality lead work, bold production and the memorable vocal of their latest singer Apollo Papathanasio. Overall, there is more guitar and keyboard dueling, Apollo's vocals sound much clearer and the general music approach is more straight forward. The riff style tends to have more in common with older albums. Jan 6, 2023

Polyphia is based mainly on instrumental beats and guitar parts, combining a large number of musical styles, mostly in a commercial and trendy spirit. In their music you can hear Instrumental Pop/Progressive Rock, Math rock, Electronic/Alternative Rock and hip-hop. However, overall the music sounds too commercial and bubble gum childish. Some parts are hard to listen to and tasteless for me. Jan 6, 2023

Crematory are among the less marked and well-known bands, however, they have also released better quality albums during their career, and "Awake" album is one of them. They combine Gothic/Doom Metal with death metal vocals. Growlivg is rather average and monotonous, but it is complemented by excellent melodic singing. The songs are rather simpler, built on melodic keyboards and easy-to-remember riffs, but it works. Dec 31, 2022

Second album "Symphony of Enchanted Lands" continues in the style of the debut, emphasizing all orchestral and symphonic parts, fast riffs and strong vocals. I got impressed immediately because of the originality and the complexity of the compositions throughout the album. Highlight of this album is strong fusion between classical music & metal. Dec 27, 2022

Rhapsody of Fire plays on great first album grandiose Epic Symphonic Power Metal, with fantasy lyrics about enchanted swords and fire-breathing dragons. Songs are fast-paced, with tons of time changes and more incredible instrumental sections. What really makes Rhapsody original is the combination of orchestration behind all the songs, strong / melodic vocal lines & memorable solos as well as fast riffs. Dec 27, 2022

this band have have two vocalists, but it all sounds like one. Vocals are horrible typical gurgle, guttural or low growl, with some pig squeals added in the mix. I can't listen to this mess, despite some good riffs. Dec 26, 2022

If you're a fan of Swedish Melodic Black Metal or Melancholic BM, then this album is definitely for you. Music on "Nær sólen gar niþer for evogher" is very fluid, from the acoustic opening to every riff that follows it rides seamlessly from one passage to the next with each riff perfectly placed to complement or contrast the last. The structure of the songs is built around an overabundance of riffs, which determine where the music will be taken. Dec 26, 2022

Dawn are a Swedish Melodic Black Metal band, that several fans point as a continuation of Dissection. Once you listen to "Slaughtersun (Crown of the Triarchy)" it's obvious that it's black metal album, no question about it. Album has a very lengthy songs, usually around 10 minutes apiece, which means, there is a fair amount of riff repetition, which can be good or bad. On a few songs they'll start to get a bit boring and then an awesome riff cuts in and seizes your attention. Dec 26, 2022

"Moontower" is Dan Swanö's first creative project after his departure from Edge of Sanity band, whereas he has recorded all the instruments by himself and the record was also produced & engineered by him. Music is combination between Doom/Death Metal and Progressive Rock. Most of the time the keyboard melodies are in the lead and bring most of the flavor in to the music. Album doesn't sound like anything Swanö made before it, or he has done after it. Dec 26, 2022

Music-wise, "Dusk... and Her Embrace" is a combination of melodic delicacy and ruthless aggression. The atmosphere is stunningly eerie created by synth based instrumentals and song intros. Cradle of Filth on this album is a lot closer to heavy metal than a lot of listeners would comfortably admit (of course, apart from Dani's screeching and roaring). Behind the makeup and gothic melodrama, this band has their hearts in the eighties. Dec 26, 2022

This album combines hints of Black Metal with vampiric orchestration, but their musical ability wasn't quite up to delivering their vision as well as they maybe hoped to. It is more or less the embryonic Cradle sound we know, with more imprecise and loose musical delivery, Dani's weird vocals and the nonbalance between the Gothic & extreme moments being not as even as what came after this. Also the quality of the sound is rather poor. Dec 26, 2022

I think "V Empire or Dark Faerytales in Phallustein" is the best album from Cradle of Filth, despite the fact that it is only EP. I consider this an essential Cradle album, as it heralds the beginning of the sound they refined so well and quickly into influential force in the extreme metal scene. Dec 26, 2022

On "Cruelty and the Beast" album, Cradle of Filth continued its style of Symphonic Dusk/Black/Gothic Metal with a lot more ingredients of traditional Heavy Metal riffing thrown into the mix. Dani's vocals are too high pitched (sometimes even annoying), and yipping more in the style he uses now than the ear-piercing shriek seen on the preceeding album. Nick Barker's drums are too flat and bass is completely lost in the mix. Dec 26, 2022

Luster combines ambient/meditative music with simple/minimalist and melodic keyboard black metal and subdued guitars. Repeating keyboard motifs, almost reminiscent of the dreamy atmosphere of 80s synthpop or simple old historic video games. Music is not heavy or hard at all, and the most significant component is the minimalistic and simple keyboards. But frequent and lengthy repetition of similar ideas becomes quite boring after a while. Dec 23, 2022

I don't like this kind of music and this style of music in general. The most disgusting on "Ingesting Putridity" album are this obscure growling / scream and roar. I can't even listened this king of piggy "singer". Horrible Slamming Brutal Death Metal, but if you like noise without meaningful melodies and quality vocals, you might like it instead. Dec 23, 2022

the first thing that attracts me about Disillusion band is that, even though they are from Germany, based on the style of their music, I would guess them to be an English band. They play a varied combination of many metal genres, from Melodic Death Metal, to Dark Doom/Gothic Metal, to Progressive Metal. "Ayam" takes listener on a sonic journey that almost knows no boundaries. Dec 23, 2022

"The Carnival Bizarre" album is killer from start to finish, full of great bludgeoning riffs and fuzzed out leads any Black Sabbath fan will rejoice in. This is band's most focused album ever, forging a batch of classic songs that are on par with nearly anything conjured by the band’s influences. Also album has an excellent cover, which will prepare an enthusiast of strange paintings for long and pleasing moments looking for interesting details. Dec 18, 2022

Cathedral's releases have a definite mark of an excellent group and each album is radically different, yet still pumping with the trademark blood of its creators. "The Last Spire" ventures back to the dirgy gloom of their debut with a slight tint of progressive tendency. Altogether, "The Last Spire" is a worthy swansong for Cathedral. Not many bands can craft such a powerful and effective final opus which would solidify their legacy further and further. Dec 18, 2022

Statik Majik is a really interesting EP and it contains probably most bizarre extra long track "The Voyage of the Homeless Sapien". Normally I'm not a big fan of EPs, as I feel they aren't worth the money in most cases. However, with Cathedral it is a different story, all of their EPs have something different to offer. This one is no different. Dec 18, 2022

Cathedral are notorious known for their excellent EPs. There are four songs on "Soul Sacrifice" album and each with their own personality and distinct style. From my point of view, this EP is highly recommended for all Cathedral fans, and for fans of Doom/Stoner metal. Dec 18, 2022

excellent recording, but it's a shame that it wasn't released as a long-playing album. The songs on the EP are perfect with excellent Doom/Stoner Metal ideas. I know that there are two cover versions on the album, but they are mastered as a unit. Dec 18, 2022

Cathedral has drifted between Doom and Stoner Metal for years now and they just keep getting better with almost each release. Guitars are simply massive and Black Sabbath influenced and album has the most solos of any Cathedral albums. The bass is incredibly complementary and the drums tasteful at every bend. The vocals are well and add an air of nostalgia to the overall feel of this record. Dec 18, 2022

"The Ethereal Mirror" stands as a great album in Cathedral's discography and in my opinion, a real landmark release. Compared to the previous album, this one has faster tempo within the style, better guitar work, stronger ideas and Lee Dorrian changes his singing to some lowed clean voice. The band is still beholden to the ghost of Black Sabbath in a major way and album is literally full of incredible tracks. Dec 18, 2022

there are so many great songs and unforgettable hits. Album peaked at No. 21 on the Billboard 200 chart and the songs "Wind of Change" & "Send Me an Angel" reached No. 4 / 44 on the Billboard Hot chart. It also has the only Scorpions track to credit bassist Francis Buchholz as a writer, "Kicks After Six". It was also the band's last studio album to feature the Lovedrive era lineup, with Buchholz leaving the band in January 1992. Dec 18, 2022

"Moment of Glory" is great album and one of the best in Scorpions entire discography. Album was recorded in collaboration with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and features re-arranged songs from the Scorpions repertoire, as well as classical interludes, cover song and the new single "Moment of Glory". Instrumental song "Deadly Sting Suite" is based on two earlier Scorpions tracks, "He's a Woman, She's a Man" and "Dynamite". Dec 18, 2022

this is the best Alice Cooper's album. Track "Feed My Frankenstein" features famed guitar duo Steve Vai and Joe Satriani playing together, accompanied by Nikki Sixx on bass. Album also features guest performances from Lance Bulen, Slash, Ozzy Osbourne, Vinnie Moore and Mick Mars. "Hey Stoopid" was Cooper's last album to feature bassist Hugh McDonald before he joined Bon Jovi in 1994. Dec 18, 2022

Brutal Planet is one of the hardest Alice Cooper albums. Musically, this finds Alice Cooper tackling a much darker & heavier sound and approach than on previous albums, with many songs approaching a somewhat modern-sounding, industrial/metal sound. Dec 18, 2022

"Raise Your Fist and Yell" features the track “Prince of Darkness” which is featured very briefly in the John Carpenter film of the same name, in which Alice Cooper has a cameo as a murderous vagrant. Also a music video was made for the song "Freedom", which also became the album's sole single. It is the only Alice Cooper album to feature Ken K. Mary on drums and the second and last to feature Kip Winger on bass. Dec 18, 2022

"DaDa" art cover was based on a painting by surrealist artist Salvador Dalí titled Slave Market with the Disappearing Bust of Voltaire. It was produced by long-time collaborator Bob Ezrin. Guitarist and co-songwriter Dick Wagner revealed in 2014 that Alice Cooper had relapsed to drinking heavily during the recording of DaDa. Cooper reportedly has no recollection of recording album, due to substance abuse. Dec 18, 2022

"Trash" is one of the best Alice Cooper's albums. Album marked a great success in Cooper's musical career, selling more than two million copies. After his return to the music industry Alice Cooper had sought assistance from Desmond Child to create a comeback album. "Trash" became one of Cooper's biggest albums, with successful support of year-long worldwide concert tour. Dec 18, 2022

5 days ago

Mar 10, 2025

I'm pretty sure this is the best debut in history. Sonata Arctica immediately does what they do best and the result is amazing. "FullMoon" is a great song. Mar 11, 2025

Great album but not at the level of the debut in my opinion. The band tries a bit of progressive direction with pretty good results, although some songs are quite weak. The end of the album is great. Good job Sonata! Mar 11, 2025

DT caught my attention with their previous album and this one confirms my thoughts on them. I´m not so fond of their old stuffs but these 2 keep me on my feet and I will go back to them regularly. Mar 12, 2025

The "Ram It Down" is a very underrated album, but in 1988 in the german Metal Hammer looked like a new classic by the soundcheck.Otherwise the "Ram it Down" and the "Hard As Iron"(with thundering riff) are great fast classic Priest songs. All in all i think only the "Love Zone" is the only one problematic song and the Lp is great.. Mar 8, 2025

Mar 9, 2025

Fantastic classic album with the legendary Ronnie James Dio.. Mar 9, 2025
