This album is very hard to place. The music is more Heavy Metal than anything, with generous heaps of Melodic Death Metal as well. And then the vocals and tempo are influenced by Gothic Metal. It sounds nothing like what came before, but it's great!   Oct 17, 2022

It could be said that this album is what spawned the entire concept of Trans Siberian Orchestra. Not only does it have (what would become) their signature track in Christmas Eve (Sarajevo 12/24), but it's also Savatage's first winter/Christmas themed concept album. 아무래도 이 1집에서는 많은 이들이 Sweet Child o' Mine을 꼽겠지만, 내게 있어서 이 앨범 최고의 곡은 절대적으로 Nightrain이다. 밴드의 정체성, 색깔, 연주력 등을 한 번에 대변해주는 곡이랄까. 심지어 가사까지 말이다. 같이 늙어간다는 말이 어울리겠지만, 그때의 열정 속에서 Nightrain을 외치고 연주를 하던 그들의 모습은 정말로 젊음의 영웅이자 양아치였다.   Mar 19, 2025

The "Ram It Down" is a very underrated album, but in 1988 in the german Metal Hammer looked like a new classic by the soundcheck.Otherwise the "Ram it Down" and the "Hard As Iron"(with thundering riff) are great fast classic Priest songs. LA메탈의 시작을 알리는 역사적 데뷔작. 빈스닐의 거친 코맹맹이 보컬은 아직 뚫리기 전이고 믹과 토미의 연주도 거칠다. 그런데 합주가 시작되면 니키의 베이스와 어우러져 아주 그럴싸한 곡들이 나온다. 아니, 앨범 전체 곡들의 멜로디가 좋아서 버릴 곡들이 없다. 몇개 히트곡에 의존했던 3,4집과는 수준차이가 크며 2집에도 크게 뒤지지 않는다.   Mar 8, 2025
