Annihilator의 초기 작품들은 명백히 스래쉬 메탈에 기초한 작품들이었다. Annihilator는 이따금 불길하면서 긴장감 넘치는 기발한 리프와 분위기로 컬트적인 팬베이스를 형성했던 팀이다. 그러나 밴드는 90년대 접어들면서 팝적인 코드 진행과 멜로디를 도입하면서 기존 스래쉬 메탈 팬들의 우려를 산 바 있다. 그들의 다섯 번째 앨범 Refresh the Demon은 여전히 밴드의 스타일에 변화가 있었지만, Jeff Waters의 관심이 여전히 스래쉬 메탈에 머물러 있음을 확인할 수 있다. 이전 앨범들에 비해 다시 록킹해 지고 불규칙한 리프와 그루브한 사운드는 기존에 Annihilator에게 실망했던 사람들을 다시 돌아오도록 손짓하는 것 같다. 전반적으로 Refresh the Demon은 이전 앨범들에 비해 좀더 재밌는 앨범이라고 할 수 있을 것 같다. 하지만 본작의 약점도 뚜렷하다. 무미건조하게 들리게 하는 프로듀싱과, 특히 베이스와 드럼의 빈약한 리듬 라인은 그루브의 임팩트를 줄여버리면서 앨범의 매력조차 깎아먹어 버린다. Refresh the Demon은 이전 앨범보다 더 역동적이고 흥미로운 작품이지만, 단점도 명확하여 엄밀히 말하면 초기 작품과 댈 바는 당연히 아니고, 이전 앨범들과 비슷한 수준에서 만들어진 작품이라고 여기면 될 것 같다.

상당히 잘 뽑힌 스레쉬 메탈 앨범입니다. 스레쉬 메탈이지만 스피드로 밀어부치는 스타일이 아니라 적당한 완급 조절이 돋보이는 앨범이라고 봅니다.

Annihilator sú na hudobnej scéne od roku 1984 pričom zažili slávnejšie časy, ako aj menej podarené. Hlavne začiatky mali výborné a sú nezmazateľné vpísané do metalovej histórie.
