The band had great appeal among young audiences and was successful right from their first studio album, which was released in my age group, but I liked metal bands more. Guns N' Roses emerged as a more commercially produced rock band and this was the secret of their success and perhaps the reason for their rapid rise and decline; today they are considered a "cult" band.
